If a woman thinks that some average guy is a “nice guy”, then he’s not “invisible”. She just doesn’t want to have sex with him is all. She might even think that he’s suitable for that friend of hers who is having trouble meeting a good guy and who needs someone “nice”.

I also think that the traffic light analogy is a better one. There are plenty of “yellow light” guys who might have a chance with a woman if they impress her over time. Most guys want to be that “green light” guy who she is instantly attracted to, though.

It's a point of contention because both sides make claims about the dating success of "average men" that the other disagrees with. We hear from women that men are the more shallow sex and that women's attractiveness is judged through a harsher lens so since guys are physically attractived to average women without them needing to be famous men think women should also be attracted to average men unless what women say about our standards on looks being higher isnt true. There are also women that claim that their supposedly average men that they know do fine on dating apps and/or have no problems with casual sex and dating which guys often disagree with.

I think if women in general were more honest about which sex really has the stricter beauty standards and stopped making claims about the average men they supposedly know and instead referenced specific traits then this wouldn't be a point of contention. Like instead of saying "my average looking friend kills it with women" they should say "my 6'4 friend that has a face like insert actor here kills it with women". By saying average men assume statistical average not whatever women use as average so by using the word average the discussion gets muddied.

That said, I'm pretty sure you've complained about the discussion of average before on previous accounts and you're probably wasting your breath now too. Just like the "does size matter" topic , this topic isn't going to die any time soon.

The only guys who aren't invisible are the top, exceptional ones. Above average is not enough anymore.

While average women still get attention and validation, even above average men can't get a minute fraction of that.

The worst thing about average men is just how desperately they want to fit in and blend in. They all wear shades of grey, brown and green (the colors of camouflage) so they can blend in and not stand out. If you were a woman would you want to be an average dull woman or an outstanding beauty that stands out above all others? So why do men want to appear average and indistinguishable from the grey masses?

I remember seeing a video a long while back where a woman was explaining quite honestly the dynamics of men and women at a dance club. Teaching dancing to men was the point of the video but she was getting into the social aspects a bit.

The way she summed it up was similar to what you're saying, and sticks with me as probably very true.

She said the instant that a man walks into the dance club, every woman puts him into one of three categories - yes, no, maybe.

If he is a yes, then she will be willing to sleep with him given the opportunity, if he approaches her, etc. He's just hot.

If he is a no, she is simply turned off by him and has no interest in sleeping with him under any circumstances.

But the maybes, that's where having dancing skills comes in. If the maybe guy has some smooth and confident dance moves, he can become a yes pretty easily.

To succeed as a average man you need some kind of redeeming qualities.

Due to being average I have to work twice as hard to make up for it. The reality is most average guys are not gonna do that. But my mentality is that life is gonna be shit for you either way so you might aswell try to make up for your deficiencys.

Makes a lot of sense. I'd divide it into FIVE classes, though. Super good looking guys at the top and Quasimodo-like bridge trolls at the bottom have qualitatively different experiences from your ordinary good looking guy or the guys on People of Walmart or something.

Most women are dating average guys. Not everyone has to stand out in a crowd. I like not standing out. You're only invisible as an average person for strangers, not for the people that know you, and I'd say that's ideal, I don't like talking to strangers anyways

Idk…this is a bit different from what I usually post but after having a couple recent experiences. I wanna disagree with you. Most of my average friends have recently got into relationships with other average women. I’m above average in a lot of aspects, but haven’t been in a relationship yet.

What I’m seeing is that people in general want to be with other people similar to them. I think if anything, I’m almost pricing myself out of the market. I recently found out one of my woman friends had a crush on me but she thought I was “too good for her”. I was like, wtf?! Didn’t even know that was a concept, but ok.

I think this sub focuses on white UMC women who do pretty much go for the 6-6-6 guys and are known to be hypergamous. But there’s tons of average women who just want average guys to love and care for them.

“Average dude should be able to score with average female with little to no effort” - my theory is that a person without much life experience will default to this view. Superficially it seems fair.

The alternative is that there are gender differences, and the world we live in doesnt like to acknowledge that there are such differences, and tries to promote the clueless “but arent we all the same???”-style views.

There are a lot of these default views floating around because the entire structure of our egalitarian society lends itself to believing them. It takes a hard kick in the ass from reality to dislodge them usually

Women have to do almost nothing for male attention, I think men just get a bit fed up sometimes of noone outright making an effort towards persuing them, unless a man isn't 'avarage' this very very rarely happens, I'd like to think I'm a slightly above avarage man, only slightly, but I can think of 3 instances , all of which the women were pretty drunk or a solid 2/10 , make an effort and instigate flirting or an attempt to hook up. I think this is where the argument comes from.
