Disclaimer : I would like to say that men appreciate being seen as reliable, strong and stoic. The real issue is when it's expected from them all the time, but I'm not at all criticizing masculinity, because I as a man myself like feeling masculine,(usefull, strong, reliable and a shoulder to stand on). As everything, take a little, and it's perfect, take too much and it becomes poisonnous.

The one thing most men can't do is express their feelings. Whether it's with their spouse or their friends, they most of the time can't unless they're the one in million person who happen to have an open spouse and open friends. They also don't necessarily want to because being seen as masculine is also a very pleasant feeling. I think most men enjoy being seen as masculine but the only issue is when it's expected of them all the time and they can't litterally be anything else. Because then it start to affect mental health and with bad mental health, those around him (Family, friends, spouse).

Women and feminist have been trying to offer solution to the issue (and I deeply respect the initiative) by encouraging men to open-up to their spouse. They also are trying to undermine gender roles and masculinity in an attempt to allow for men to be who they want to be. It has obviously been recieved by a lot of disdain from the other gender because being man is pleasant, and most men wants to be men. The issue is not being man itself, it's being nothing else but a man all the time as said earlier. However I really appreciate the effort of women and feminists even though I think the solution they're offering is not the best one. Forcing people to act a certain way which is unnatural to them never worked and never will.

The reality is that most of the time, men who've tried being open faced opposite reaction of what they're expected to believe. 95% of the time, when they try, they get shut down, or they reppel their women acquintances. That's a fact corrobored with all guys personnal experiences.

I think what women really want is men to solve their emotional baggage. A lot of women espescially when they are young and naive take "bad boys" and get in relationship in an attempt to "fix" them and get hurt themselves by doing so. Them trying to help doesn't mean they should be part of the solution, at the end of the day it's a manhood's problem, but it shows that this has consequences that affect both gender. Women are also suffering from the consequences of this unresolved problem.

However, at the end of the day, women are still going to prefer strong stoic men on appearances at least to fill in the relationship dynamic. I think they want men to be open but not to them, similarily to all they do with their girl friends. They would rather want men to stay open but within mens to not face the consequences of men bottling up for too long. But ultimately, girls prefer a strong man, there's no denying and there's no wrong in it either.

With that being said, given everyone constraints (Women not wanting emotional men but still wanting emotionally healthy men) and men wanting to be seen as strong and maintaining appearances by their spouse and their friends (Because yes, it's pleasurable to be seen as strong and reliable, men do like that) but still needing to vent here and there from time to time it seems that the only way to find a solution is to introduce a third party, a therapist.

Encouraging men to go and see therapist would not force them to change their ways, women to handle men's emotion. And men would recieve professional advice. Everyone would win with little to no suffering. There's nothing derogatory about promoting therapy to younger men, and men would benefit from it as a whole. It can also have a strong incidence on crime stats so win win for everyone.

I really think it's a society's issue, and society should take reponsibility by offering clinical sessions to young men during their teenage years and young adulthood and reimburse it to make it available to everyone, espescially low class people who are suffering from mental health issue and are most likely to follow the crime path than middle class.

I also think it could beneficial for young teenage girls but I'm not a woman so I don't think I know what issue they're facing and thus can't speak for them.

TL;DR : Promoting mental health would solve far more than manbashing
