If hypergamy means that women 'date up', and the average girl only wants a guy in the top 20% of men in terms of looks/money/status (80/20 rule), surely this essentially means that women are setting higher standards on men than what they live up to themselves? this is basically saying that that hypergamy = hypocrisy, as it's generally considered hypocritical to set higher standards on others compared to yourself.

my question to people who believe in hypergamy and that women follow the '80/20 rule' thing: do you also therefore believe women are hypocritical? because that seems like the logical conclusion to this argument. and if someone calls you misogynistic for that, what is your defence?

it seems to me like the idea of hypergamy is a thinly veiled accusation towards women that they are dating hypocritically...
