OP title sounds like a bait question but I'm being serious. This is a dilemma I have been struggling with.

Women both on PPD and in general population surveys will respond that a minority of men are physically attractive. The general experience here is "I rarely see a physically attractive man on the sidewalk." There's a range of percentages, 10% of guys, 5% of guys, who knows, but the typical woman would say that a small minority of the men inside a grocery store or a subway car are physically attractive. And yet, most women here are in relationships, and as PPD will remind us, there are legions of average-looking men in relationships ("just walk around Walmart and look around").

How do we square this circle? Do the women develop physical attraction for their partner after meeting the guy socially? Is the initial claim false, i.e. women don't find a minority of men attractive? Or do women just don't consider their romantic partners physically attractive - but that's ok because a relationship can nevertheless flourish?
