Is it just me, or does anyone else kind of notice that these are the fears and projections of a group of people stuck on the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder?

Because Sheryl Sandberg doesn’t really raise her kids. She has her nannies put them to bed in their school uniforms so when they wake up they spend an extra 15 minutes with her at breakfast before she goes off to work. Sheryl Sandberg doesn’t clean her own house. Sheryl Sandberg’s grandmother doesn’t know what a Dust Buster is.

No one in the upper middle or newly rich classes or especially the really elite care about this shit. They fully expect to marry a woman with a degree, often times and advanced degree, and preferably one from an Ivy League school, and that she’ll be a huge contributor into their shared wealth accumulation.

Half of TRP seems to be a mode of thinking for people who don’t have enough income to hire staff to free up their wife so they can work together to maximize their earnings. Which of course leads to earlier retirement, more vacation time, less financial stress, etc. But this all assuming they could get a wife. Because the other half of TRP is men who can’t even get one.

How much of TRP is actually aware that what they’re trying to sell to a woman is a basically unpaid position as nursemaid in their home that they get nothing out of except the joy of his company and permission to live in the house he doesn’t even want her to partially own?

Mark Zuckerberg’s not offering that deal to his wife. His wife’s a pediatrician. Talulah Riley’s an actress. I wouldn’t say she’s great at it, but whatever, she makes money at it.

A line exists along the socioeconomic ladder beyond which point it becomes so beneficial for both spouses to work outside the home to increase their chances for success that for either one of them to not work would be ludicrous. TRPs seem like they might be hovering below that line, or in some cases well below that line. So these are men on the lower end of the SES spectrum, with let’s say a bachelor’s degree in most cases, some grad school, maybe. Trying to find women who also have a Bachelor’s degree or have no degree. So these women are either at the same SES or lower than the TRPs.

And the TRPs want them to quash all their income generating capabilities and just rely on his ability to bring in steady income for the next 30 or so years. In an economic climate of layoff and total company shutdowns with a barely-still-recovering housing market.

Questions:

How many TRPs rent vs own?

How many TRPs have Bachelor’s Degrees? And in what?

Do your parents have degrees? In what?

How many TRPs have degrees beyond that? (Law School, grad school, medical school, pharmacy school, etc)?

How many TRPs earn less than 100K a year?

Do TRPs live in Urban areas or the suburbs? (They’re probably not rural.)

What’s the average level of education of the women you’re meeting? Bachelor’s? (Probably they have no degrees or Bachelor’s degrees.) And what’s the degree in?

Do their parents have degrees? In what?

What’s the average income of the women you’re meeting?

TRPs probably won’t answer these questions (and who could blame them, honestly?), but the answers would be fascinating.
