I think that men and women who want to be sex workers should be able to. It's an occupation that needs to be regulated and made legal like any other job. Secure wages, health insurance, health standards, employee identification, vetting for customers to decrease the risk of STDs and abusive clients, etc.

I couldn't ever be a prostitute, but I have great respect for the women and men who are. I think they fulfill a very needed role in society.

I think it is disgusting, but I see zero reasons why it should be illegal. I think what is keeping it illegal is that a politician pushing for the idea aggressively would look very odd and I do not think people want brothels in their cities/living areas.

I think it should be legal, and subject to similar regulations as other service industries to ensure health/safety. Regular STI screening, for example.

As someone else said, a male politician would have difficulties getting a bill about this passed. A female politician might have better luck - could come at it from a "protect the workers" kind of approach, which is shared by some branches of feminism.

4.) the two prostitutes I knew when I was younger didn't strike me as savvy, sex positive Belle Du Jours, more like late stage strippers with crippling pill addictions. And that's like.. the best case scenario for your average prostitute.

5.) I think a lot of men lie to themselves about the drudgery of prostitution to either excuse away, or make themselves less culpable for possibly adding to someone's misery.

I'm not principally opposed to sex-work but I also think the various industries have some huge problems with trafficking and exploitation. So I support legalizing prostitution but it needs to be regulated very well.

That said, the only sex-work I personally use is pornography. I'd never see a prostitute, not even if I was 100% sure she was doing it voluntarily. I have no interest in paying someone to spend time with me. Same reason I don't go to strip clubs.

I think it's naive to assume we can ever stop people from buying/selling sex, we may as well legalize it and make it safer for everyone. Also that sweet, sweet tax revenue.

I do think if you want to buy or sell sex you should be at least 21 though, its way too easy to take advantage of teenagers.

While definitely not the ideal situation, I think seeing hookers is a smarter choice than marrying someone who isn't genuinely sexually attracted to you. Many men are effectively raised to "buy" a woman's "love" through their wealth, accomplishments and social status, and many women are raised to ignore their level of physical attraction to the man when seeking commitment. This leads to very unhealthy/unhappy relationships and resentment on both sides. As a guy, if you're physically unattractive to the point that regular diet/exercise can't bring you up to at least a "6" to some women, you should avoid marriage like the plague! Let's be real, here: Too many women date/fuck/marry men they have no genuine sexual interest in, and that's the core reason why so many relationships/marriages fail.

Have never been to a hooker and don't plan on it. But as I said in my earlier post, it is a woman's choice what she does with her body.

I know numerous girls who are in the sex industry and not only are they not trafficked they know of nobody who is. They do it because of the easy money. They make more in an hour than they could otherwise make in a week.

As to the men, I don't judge them or care what they do. It is their lives and their decisions.

I believe many feminists don't like it because it takes power away from women collectively. Many women control men through sex. Strippers, hookers and other sex workers take this power away from women. Therefore the men have to be shamed.

I actually find the situation kind of funny. You have a survey of college aged women that finds that at least 20 percent would be willing to have sex with a man in exchange for help with bills. Today there are at least 10 whores for every man who has any interest in hookers. Yet men are evil shitlords who force women to do this.

since it will always be around, why not make it safe and legal for everyone involved. It's not going anywhere.

Some cultures even elevate some aspects to higher callings , ie Geisha, but at the end of the day, if you really think about what a prostitute substitutes for - for most men who buy those services - it makes sense.

I think that prostitutes are not for me.

I don't enjoy the bald faced transaction. Hell, even back when online hookups were a new thing and I tried them a few times (no money exchanged), they made me feel gross.

Maybe it is my inner insecurities, but I only enjoy sex when the desire in my partner for me is clear and genuine. Maybe that is why 80% of my partners were people I had known for awhile?

It is an interesting question - fundamentally, I don't care about prostitution. If someone wants to pay for sex and someone else is selling, go for it. However, when I have friends tell me they have visited prostitutes in the past, they do lose respect points in my eyes. It isn't enough to make me Not respect them, but it definitely factors into the equation.

I think the majority of women who do it now are in a situation where they feel like they have no choice, and are frequently exploited. The legalization and regulation of this industry would really clean things up, but I'm worried what those women would do instead to make ends meet.

I finally went to Asia and married a really loyal and beautiful Taiwanese woman.

But I was talking to my nephew the other day who has moved in with his girlfriend, and she's making more and more demands on him (and he's only 22, works out of state in construction almost all the time). She reads like a spoiled, confused, and narcissistic "six." I gave him the following advice:

I calculated my 20-something relationships back in the states. For all the times I had sex with those women, versus the costs to my life in years and money, for example to "prove" I could be "independent" to my college sweetheart while I was still yet to finish my degree, or moving in together to show a girl I was "serious" -- prostitutes would have been cheaper.

100 times having sex a year x 200 USD is about 20 grand a year. I spent 8 years graduating from college with a four year degree because I was bending over backwards and breaking myself trying to please my girlfriends (White Knight mentality), and I was unhappy the whole time.

I wanted companionship and believed that digging out of holes I didn't even know I was in, was the cost of admission -- alternative being loneliness. College took literally twice as many years, and I make a lot more than 20K a year ever since I left college.

Prostitutes would have been cheaper.

Plus, they ONLY COST MONEY. This is not to be underestimated.

The emotional and mental cost of relationships in America would have put me in the MGTOW category had I not discovered that some women can be loyal and also trusting of both their own innocence and mine.

I have see a few Western guys in my own group of expat friends go through a real healing process just through the process of dating NICE GIRLS, both in South India and East Asia.

But barring this kind of healing, and coming across a really lovely girl to settle down with, I would probably just go with prostitutes any time I felt lonely. Much cheaper, and do away with a lot of non-monetary costs, which are even more significant.
