Another point they don't realize is that they think women don't want to do these jobs. Women interested in it often can't get ahead in the business. Ask any woman to walk into an office for work and see if they hire her.

This is the problem.

Men constantly say "women only want equality to be white collar workers" when, in my experience, this is not true. There have been 2 times in my life I was unemployed (pre-covid so no extra $600 a week, just normal unemployment benefits which suck ass). During these times I applied to literally any job that had a Hiring Immediately sign. This included;

Local delivery driver for auto parts

Sanitation collector (garbage truck driver)

Meter reading for the electric company

Sanitation collector (removes roadkill)

Construction assistant (directs traffic around sites)

Landscaper (which I used to do during college)

Mason (specifically gravel and item 4 delivery to sites)

Not a single one got back to me. I was literally willing to drive a town provided pickup truck around the roads and local highway to put animal carcasses into for cremation, and wasn't even called. That's how much I needed to find work. I eventually got hired by a sex toy/lingerie shop, which was actually a great job.

A month later nearly all of these companies still had the Hiring Immediately sign, and when I called pretending to ask about the job requirements/availability "for my brother" I was told the positions were still open and the requirements were all things I could already do or very easily learn. Of course, I followed up with each of them as myself and was told that either the position was filled (lies) or that they "didn't have" my resume so I offered to drop it off personally again and was declined. Two of the companies were at least honest with me and said they "really don't hire women for this kind of job" (the auto parts delivery and the garbage truck driver).

So yes. Next time men want to degrade women for "only working the easy air conditioned jobs" instead of being out in the field (my current job, ironically) maybe they will understand we do want these jobs. We just don't get hired even when fully qualified. Some of these companies would rather pay overtime and bleed money rather than hire a woman.

As people here know, I'm fervently against double standards in either direction, and usually talk about misandry in society. This is one of the times I'll gladly point out the other side of the coin.

Would do at the very least. Also inventing, building and maintaining the machines. Also mining, refining, forging and transporting the materials necessary to power the machines and build the buildings.

Could women do all of those things? Maybe, but we may never know because the fact of the matter is that they don't. And god knows they have a million different excuses as to why they don't, but the fact always remains.

I don't know why men gatekeep these shit jobs from women. They're tough on your body, skin and often result in injuries or even death. Morons who think sacrificing themselves is somehow virtuous when the people they sacrifice themselves for aren't even thankful and don't even give a shit.

The only advantage of these jobs is you don't have to deal with a narcissistic micro managing shithead of a boss in a confined office however there's plenty of bullshit you have to deal with from project managers who have no idea what's realistic in these fields.

Working in the construction industry for a little while taught me why unions are so important.

Biased exist for both, women are more likely picked for jobs involving dealing with the public, and men are more likely picked for jobs involving weather and potentially getting hurt.

I never understood why women would WANT to do men’s jobs. Why do you want to be construction workers, cops, firefighters etc? I’m a man and I don’t want to be a nurse, midwife, secretary, hairdresser etc. It always just comes across like penis envy to me

Been in the Automotive industry over 20 years myself and having mates in the trade industries like carpentry/plumbing/builders etc I can tell you quite bluntly that the vast majority of women are not cut for manual labor roles. We have all had women try roles and ultimately fail due to either not been able to sustain the physical stress for extended amounts of time (think years here not a few months) or it just not been what they thought it would be.

A lot might start a role, seem fine and on par with male colleges, but a few years in they just like yea nah not for me and next thing you know they are in a office role or doing something completely different. Have seen this over and over and over again with female apprentices for example. They get treated well, get treated better then the men that's for sure.

That's not to say there isn't outliers that have done it but the vast vast majority, as the statistics will show as well, go into certain other fields of work.

I feel like a lot of women only do these kinds of jobs to try and prove a point or to fit their perceived toughness. We currently have a female mechanic at my work who identifies as a male, who is a kick boxer and does 4WD type activities on weekends, the short colored hair, the full show, but it all just seems like an act. I would bet a nut that he/she won't be in the industry 5 years from now.

The machine wasn't always there, and we don't have women to thank for it being there. The irony that your cherry-picked, reductionist view of labor is made possible by men that made material comfort and security so ubiquitous, men have essentially marginalized their own existence.

They by and large don't. The most prosperous, egalitarian societies have the largest gender differences in academic and professional pursuits. When men and women are free to pursue their passions, they pursue vastly different things.

I'm not gonna sit around in the motor pool until 21:00 so the GI Janes can prove to me that they can empty out a connex and put everything back in. I rather get in done in my lifetime. Maybe you can do it, but I can do it faster hung over, months removed from the gym on 2 hours of sleep. I especially am not in the mood for it when these GI Janes are a "accidental" pregnancy away from getting chaptered out of the army to embrace the quiet life.

Correct, if woman disappeared suddenly for 20 years, the human race would struggle but otherwise persist for the 20 years and bounce back when women returned. If the same happened in reverse, catastrostrophic failures in essential infrastructure would set in a matter of hours. Hundreds of millions would die in a matter of weeks, well before women could catch up in knowledge of the tasks nessecary to maintain life, and by then the infastructure would be damaged beyond repair and need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Very likely humanity would be unsalvageablely endangered by the time men returned.

Because some people like tying their value and self-worth to things like gender, nationality, race, socio-economic level etc. Things they can feel proud about without actually working for it. And for some of them this is the only source of their self-worth and validation, so they feel a strong need to defend it, to make others put more value in it, make it look greater and more important than it really is.

Considering the attitude 'men built the civilization" in particular, there are some other reasons as well.

A lot of people don't really know history that well. They tend to think that women really didn't work before feminism and suffragists and that men really did everything on their own, forgetting that women were always an important labor force and if men really had to do everything themselves, they just wouldn't have much time for inventing or improving anything.
They don't consider traditionally feminine role and feminine responsibilities equally important.
They don't know statistics or they think that only the amount of money earned/taxes paid is an important factor.

I have worked a manual labor job. It requires strength and endurance. It's not for most women.

Usually the women who talk about this stuff have never done it themselves or have any intention to. It's girlpower feminism.

Men and women are different, physically and mentally, this leads us to do and like different things.

If a job entails strength then men are going to be preffered to women and even a women who is fit and strong for a women is still no match for an average guy.

There is some truth about how men like to be seen to be useful to women and that is because our sexually strategies have made us like that.

The feelings you have about them not liking women probably come down to that men have been demonised and shat on for so long now and any men space is now not allowed that they will get defensive over these things to try and keep women out.

There are some construction jobs that women can easily perform (e.g. crane operator) but most of them do require physical strength. Women are generally far weaker than men even if they are fit. Consider also the possibility of a woman becoming pregnant - her physical abilities are now even lower.

You can check for yourself how many women work as crane operators or on any other machines.

Just make a female only construction company, establish it on the market and problem solved? All the knowhow is out there, has been put out there by men for anyone interested to learn and start applying.

Just like it goes for construction, maybe apply the same here - less talk, more results.

If you feel like practice, perhaps, presuming you live in a house and/or have permission (legal, owner, safety, competence, basically whatever applies - all of it) to get some "construction lite" work experience under your belt, while at the same time improving your living conditions:

you can take out the ladder, lean it against the roof and go clean the rain girders.
paint the walls.
check for broken tiles on the floor and fix that.
check corners for potentially "nibbled"/chipped off parts and fill that in.
in your backyard, set up a raised bed to grow some veggies, if you haven't yet.
check state of water pipes
clean the burning chamber of the heater (if possible and safe, of course)
move all furniture and check for things that need your attention but you may have "hidden" them inadvertently (of course) with/behind the furniture
run a LAN cable all over the place you live in if you don't have it installed yet. Do it as "properly" as you can.
do other DIY home improvement changes

Doing that, surely your chances of "setting up you own female only construction company" or at least getting a job with an "male dominated" one will increase, no? And just imagine all the improvement in your life coming just from the improvements you've made. Win-win, no?

Oh, look at the time. Talk is cheap, show me the results. Chop chop now, time waits for no one and things need doing. Problem?

When we talk about raw "capability" no doubt almost every job today that doesn't involve heavy physical labor can theoretically done by women. That video looks like an attempt at gatekeeping, all the jobs mentioned are male dominated but I dare say if a man and a woman were to learn those things from scratch the result would be more or less identical.

However, as long as men and women compete in an egalitarian market, men will always dominate stressful and higher up positions simply because they have a naturally higher drive to excel (thanks to 100 million years of evolution).

If society provided men with spaces that they actually had and could be themselves in exclusivley male company otherwise then sure, they would probably be less defensive in cases like this. But after several decades of boys only clubs opening up and basically all gyms being either only mixed or womens only and a complete lack of social sipport for men these are basically the only places a lot of men can be around only other men and talk on their own terms. Once you combine that with the female bias in education at basically all levels and men being repeatedly told their social value exists solely in their job then no fucking shit they don't want women there.

I've done manual labor jobs where women were involved and it 100% changes the atmosphere. I wouldn't refuse to work with a woman in these cases but there's absolutley a difference between how men act around only other men and how they act if there's a woman present just like women will often talk about gross shit during Girl Talk. Except men get so few opportunities to actually have unfiltered conversations by comparison they will naturally be defensive at women who try to get into those spaces regardless of circumstance, because as soon as a woman is involved they'll invariably clam up regardless of if she asks because thats whats expected of them.

I feel like men resent the intrusion of women into traditionally men's spaces and women resent the intrusion of men into traditionally women's spaces. Both are right. Both sexes need their own spaces.

As for construction work it's dangerous and can damage your fertility as a woman. So it's not a good idea.
