You hear it time and again. “Well, you wanted equality!” angry men say, whenever a woman says anything about……anything, practically, but especially in regards to dating and relationships. If a woman laments she’s not being approached, men tell her she should start doing the approaching. If a woman is concerned because her partner is making under half her salary, men tell her she should work harder to provide for the family. She wanted equal rights, right?

Yet for however familiar I am with the pillosphere, I still struggle to understand this concept. I rather like being paid equally for doing the exact same job as my male counterparts, but that doesn’t mean I want to wear the pants in the family or be the sole breadwinner for my SAHD husband.

I also enjoy having the right to vote, attend college or advance in the corporate world if I choose, but that doesn’t mean I’d like to go out and aggressively pursue men for sex and relationships.

I fail to see how wanting equal rights and protections under the law, somehow means I want to be a man. And I also don’t see how this translates to me somehow “picking and choosing which rights [I] want”.

IMO, wanting men to take an active role in seduction has nothing to do with wanting fair pay. Wanting a masculine partner doesn’t mean a woman has to give up all her legal rights. And a woman not wanting her ass pinched at work doesn't somehow make her a hypocrite who demands only men adhere to "traditional gender roles".

Perhaps someone can explain the logic behind these sentiments because I certainly don't understand them.
