I was extremely poor most of my life but managed to scrape a career together, am now making 6 figures and doing well financially. It seems like all the women I date now just automatically expect me to pay for everything and I'm lucky to get a "thank you" from it all. If I don't, it often becomes some kind of bullshit issue. I miss when I was poor and the women I dated liked me for me and even paid the bar/restaurant tab most of the time because they knew I didn't have money. The problem with being financially secure is that everyone expects you to just give your money away, specifically women. Fuck off, I work hard for that shit.

Edit: WTF people trying to give dating advice in the sub. Clearly the wrong sub. People implying that I go around flaunting my money with a fliff gun shooting it off of skyscrapers doing blow off of strippers assholes 24/7. Women just know when you make money. I drive a brand new car. I have nice clothes. I work a lot and I can't exactly hide what I do for a living. I'm not going to dress in street clothes and burn my car to the ground to convince some women that I'm poor. How about women learn to stop using men for money instead of blaming men for having it. Ya.. I learned not to marry for money from my parents.. I married someone based on his smarts and work ethics.. knowing if he applied himself he would do well AND if push came to shove he'd never pass on a job 'because he's too good for it' if we needed the money.

My mom married my dad when his family was super wealthy. I mean, she was obsessed with him for alot of reasons (since she was 14..her first school crush) but it was great that he came from money....

Fast Forward a few years, we went from country club lunches to clipping coupons when my dad fell out with his father and left the business.... they had nothing and although my dad tried.. he really struggled with work his whole life.. my mom ended up being the breadwinner making well over 250k a year while my dad lost money in business then he made.

Fast Forward ... and they were married 46 years when my dad left her for a women half his age (a year older then me, the youngest)..

Fast Forward 2 years.. and my dad died suddenly from an aortic rupture and my mom ended up meeting/marrying the man that is everything my dad was never... including being financially secure (which is great because God knows she deserves to be taken care of now)

Yeah, I too come from very humble beginning, my story is the same, once I somehow got a career together at like 34, out of both sheer luck of opportunity and insane 3 years of over 80h a week.

Now make 4x what I did but somehow don't feel very richer because I met this trophy woman who just took and expected me to pay for all things. I did, it worked for a few years. At one point I fell sick a little, like very manageable, still worked, still paid for everything, house and car. Still cook every meals. But still was not as active and she straight up became my worst enemy and found someone else. Then left.

Even with 2 kids. Now takes a pension because she "deserve" that money I made.

We need to teach HOES in sex education in high school as well as a financial responsability against hoes because you can do everything right but meet a hoe. They are sneaky bitches at that, they play the long game. Will convince you, you have common interest for years before backing up on everything and becoming the next dude...

The laws allow for straight up abuse.

Go to a show? Im bringing it up early enough they can save for it then buying the drinks food while there

Vacation? Planned and split

You can't convince anyone of something in just a single comment, but your comment seems to speak to a certain distaste of women or an aspect of femininity that you disagree with, and as someone who felt that same distaste in high school when it felt like I couldn't get a girlfriend, or somehow I had to "settle" for one or certain types of women would never date me so I wouldn't even try your comment spoke to me on that level. If you resonate with anything there just know that after being in the real world and working a real job and speaking to more women my position on that has changed dramatically, there is no "race" and no woman is so conniving that they're waiting for some "winner" and I think that mindset is toxic only to yourself. A long time ago I remember thinking about rich vs poor people. I was jealous of rich people’s circumstances and I wasn’t going to deny my feelings of it. So I went for an understanding of it. Because I don’t like being jealous. It’s toxic. But I can’t deny my feelings. That’s also toxic.

It’s not the money we want. It’s the “I don’t have to work 40 hours a week to support my life just so I can pursue my other dreams.” Rich people are able to just pursue their dreams whereas everyone else must slave. Rich people don’t have the stress of rent. They just swipe a card and forget.

So I created an internal concept of money vs wealth. I don’t need a lot to be happy but there’s also a lot more to life than struggling to put food on the table. I think finding that happy medium is a good start.

I kinda have similar views I guess. I mean sure, there r those who wanna be rich to get that latest Lamborghini and huge mansions, but for me, that ain't it. That just feels materialistic. Just have enough, to maintain that normal level lifestyle like u said, but that dont mean, never to splurge, have fun in a while, but the typical materialistic, gangsta rap type rich life, actually puts me off.

Studies have shown women on average prefer jobs that require less hours and have more benefits whereas men on average take jobs that make the most money even if the benefits and hours are shit.

Like you aren't saying it but you are surely talking about the wage gap which isn't as inflated as politicians pretend that it is.

Once you factor in for hours worked, types of jobs worked, benefits offered you would find women make 2-3% less which can easily be attributed to the fact if women want children they will have to take maternity leave which hinders their career.

Well, for me it was this: American culture shows men as being the providers. But what could I provide for someone that made 6 times the amount of money I did? Every argument, in the back of my head, was "She has the final say because she pays for everything", which made me irritated and never want to lose an argument.

For the first three years or so there was also this cloud that hung over me "She's so much better than I am, she deserves better than me." That took a long time to get over.

Whenever I was at work, I thought to myself "What is the point of me being here? All the bills are taken care of by her. This is a waste of my time." and "I could go back to school for a better career, but why? She's got everything taken care of."

It's incredibly easy to get used to having everything taken care of all the time. She eventually felt taken advantage of and asked for a divorce. It was very amicable, but she just didn't love me anymore.

In the end, I am much better off than I was before being with her. I learned some of her techniques for being more organized and successful. My credit score is amazing because she showed me the ways to improve it. I have a car that is totally paid off and money saved up for retirement.

If you ever get into a similar situation, my advice is this: Have open communication. Don't hold grudges or feel powerless. You don't have to be a simp, it's just being part of a couple. You are a team. You should be working together for both people's desires and not act like two individuals that just happen to live together.

Very important: Do what you can to improve yourself mentally, physically, and financially. Because at some point, if you take it for granted and you split up, you'll be like me. Spoiled and barely able to be a functioning adult.

Now, obviously, these weren't enough but I felt I gave affection, laughter, and companionship. She was introverted and I felt like I was her buffer to the rest of the world. I was her cheerleader and best friend. Besides her family, I was pretty much the only other person in her life. Our getting together actually exiled us from the social circle we were a part of. To me, after that, it was us. We were going to be together forever because of how we came together.

As I said, the first several years I was incredibly neurotic about not contributing enough and she assured me I was doing enough, that she loved me, and to trust her. However, she did tell me she wanted me to try and grow as a person.

We met through playing games in high school on AOL and had known each other for many years before we started dating officially.

I just got too complacent and took for granted that in the end, we had known each other for over 20 years. The fact that we could possibly not be together never entered my mind.

This is not to say everything was perfect, we had failures in communication and different expectations of each other that neither of us could fulfill.

There is an over-protection and baby-fication of children and young adults in many if not all aspects of life

(until one of them shoots somebody and then suddenly we try them as adults)

The term "Young Adults" needs to be reestablished into the public consciousness and brought back to the surface.

I could give dozens of examples but for now I'll stick to two. I see people on anime message boards getting angry that a character (age 16) is involved in a comedy scene where she lands on a boy her age with her boobs on his face (wacky hijinks)

somehow the response to this by some people is "omg SEXUALIZING **Children<sup>TM</sup>"

and the second was a more real life situation where a woman in England was arrested for sleeping with a....i believe it was a 15 year old but it may have been a 14 year old. She claimed to not know his age and was found not guilty.

The comments I saw regarding this issue: "she's a literal pedophile!" / "he's a CHILD" / "This woman shouldn't be around CHILDREN<sup>TM</sup>"

and this is where I go back to what I said 1st (or 2nd): We need to bring back the concept of Young Adults and distinguish it from children. Because there is a huge distinction. Heck there's a reason "teenagers" are considered a different thing from children (or they used to be.....when I was one....)

but now somehow everyone below 18, even 17.9999 is a "literal child"

This does not help in any of the way people think it does. It brings me back to what I actually said 1st: There is an over-protection and baby-fication of children and young adults (and teenagers)

Instead of correctly doing what society used to do and separating those categories and treating them differently, we act like anything not over a certain legal age is "children" and all children are essentially babies.

This brings me finally to why what you said inspired me to make this comment. Because when you don't PROPERLY separate young people into their rightful categories then you don't end up raising them correctly which effects society in massive ways.

Without the proper categories, you don't end up slowly easing them into responsibility, you don't end up slowly easing them into independence, and you give them no twilight period in which case they can have their "coming of age" moments, and their rights of passage to actually be full blown adults.

all in all you fail to make them into proper adults at all.

There's a reason we charge school shooters as adults and it's because in those rare scenarios society actually does wake up and realize "oh duh doy this is not a child" but someone that exact same age has consensual sex with a 30 year old woman and suddenly they're a child again.

Am I trying to get rid of or lower age of consent laws? NO. I'm saying you don't grab the young man and put him to your chest like "oh my poor bwabee! noooooo" Instead you go "you little shit.....YOU knew better! YOU are partially responsible for this!"

The woman was more responsible of course and you treat her even more harshly and rightfully so but don't rob him of his agency and mentally revert him to a baby.

And to your point, this is why the older a child got the more CHORES they used to take on (remember chores? what a concept...)

dirty jobs? take out the trash! clean the gutters! you're 10/11/12 you're not a baby anymore! Oh you just turned 13? Well congratulations! Now you can learn to help mommy and daddy with the dishes and the cooking and the cleaning of the bathrooms once a week.

You're LEARNING to becoming a responsible adult by graduating from child to tween, to teen, to young adult, and finally adult.

But society doesn't do any of this anymore. Chores are extinct. Young Adult is just a genre of fiction now. Everyone 18 is a "literal child" and not to be taken seriously or treated differently or given responsibility at all

beyond perhaps what the state gives them at school. perhaps that's enough (it's not)

Imagine if we created a super classist world where you weren't allowed to date anybody that makes more or less than $10K a year than you? People would be more inclined to open their eyes on the options that are out there.

I mean, for a very long time men have always been willing to "date down" a woman that made less than him. Why can't women do the same? Is your heart attached to your purse? Let's say a rich woman and poor man were dating and are looking at apartments together. Their options are:

Find an apartment where he could contribute 50% of the rent
Find a nicer apartment but he contributes a little less than 50% of the rent
Wait until he gets a new job or promotion so you can move into a nicer apartment
Find a very nice apartment but he contributes less than 30% of the rent (it's closer to her rich neighborhood friends/family)
Find the apartment of your dreams, you pay it off, and he stays with you because you love him and could see the rest of your lives together. You don't make finances an issue because you make (or your family has) enough money to last multiple lifetimes.
Find a new boyfriend so that financially nobody is holding you back for having the apartment/life of your dreams. Edit: /S

I come from money. Not "fuck you" money, but there's going to be an inheritance well into seven or possibly eight figures someday and I'm likely going to have a personal net worth well into seven or possibly eight figures before that ever happens.

I absolutely do not project an image of wealth, though. I drive a 2009 Honda Fit and I wear inexpensive clothes that I bought mostly on clearance sales. My watch is a Nixon that I paid a hundred bucks for and my current phone is still a Pixel 2 that I've had for four or five years.

Part of this is because my parents raised me to be frugal, but part of it is also intentional. Because when a girl meets me for the first time, she doesn't see a golden ticket. She only sees just sees me. And that way if she's interested, I can be pretty confident she isn't just looking for a guy with money.

Dude, you're trying to find someone compatible to have a relationship with, which means your standards are important, and so are theirs. Sure, taking one standard to such extreme that makes it look like you're looking for an opportunity to benefit rather than a person is a something we can make fun of, eg looking for someone so we'll off they'd financially support you, or looking for someone who's practically a super model.

But in this post, we have no reason to believe the woman is doing that. She simply says she wouldn't date someone who is struggling, which is a very low bar. She could have no problem with dating someone who's even less financially capable than her, as long as they're not in such peril that they're struggling.

And if her and her current boyfriend incompatible because she's not rich enough, then that's his standard she should respect. Either way there's no room to ridicule either of them
