That's exactly the opener I use at work networking events. It works really well because it seems to say that of course you're introducing yourself because that's just what you do. It makes it seem very natural.

As a sidenote, use mnemonics in this kind of situation since you will be meeting a lot of new people.

EG; You open a 3 set, Stacy, Jeff, and Molly.

Stacy has stilletto heals, Jeff is scruffy like mcgruff the crime dog, Molly is the target of the group; mainline molly.

I am in the habit of doing this with randoms at the bar, once I was talking with a couple about 10 minutes and they had forgotten my name, and joked that I probably did too. I said no, said their names, and even their friend's name who hadn't been properly introduced to me but I had overheard directly a couple of times. The girls looked at me in a disgusted way after this (like I was some kind of psycho), which I was a bit taken back by. So Probably not a good idea to remember names of people who you didn't directly meet yet, even though people are yelling their name across the bar in front of your face and you are casually talking with them and their group.

Love that one, whenever I am at a party I will always introduce myself to any groups of chicks or chicks/blokes with this line. So easy and like you say it just makes you seem like the guy that knows everybody.

It's the line that the party organiser would use.

i do this regularly at both work and social events. picked it up from a SUPER natural who i went to college with. i was a party with a few friends and he comes over to say hi and immediately offers my friends handshakes like "hi, i don't think we've met, i'm mike". i just remember thinking it was a really classy move, so if i'm ever talking to someone who's with other people that i don't know, i'll always introduce myself like that.

Simple openers are better, probably because the more you obsess over what words you are going to say, the more you freak yourself out and get AA. At the end of the day, she isn't going to remember what you said to start talking to her. As long as its not insanely stupid or inappropriate, it's fine. You just need to start a conversation. "Hi, I'm X" works well too.

A good thing about this line is that you are taking control of the situation. You're basically saying "look, I meet people. You can like it or not like it, but I'm gonna do what I do. I'm not asking your approval, I'm being a nice person."

Another version of the same thing, for someone you've definitely seen before, is "I haven't learned your name yet."

This anecdote is more social than seductive, but of course they're closely related:

When I got transferred to a new department in a law firm I worked at (staff), there was a big important lawyer who was nevertheless friendly and would smile and nod as he walked by, but I had no idea who he was.

Juuust as it was about to become awkward, because we had been nodding at each other for like a day and a half, I said as he walked by, "Hi, I haven't learned your name yet." When he stopped to shake my hand, I thought maybe the look on his face said, 'Why didn't I initiate this?'

It's a good line. I really dislike when people come up to me trying too hard to be cute/funny. It turns our conversation into a gimmick, rather than anything of depth. Jokes are fun, but ambushing me with one right away makes it hard and awkward to start a real conversation. Saying "I don't think I've met you yet." Tells me 1) As OP said, you are social and 2) You want to meet me/know me. Both are really good piece of information to convey to someone you are interested in.

It's what I almost always say to people when I introduce myself out of the blue at a social event... but with a woman I'm interested in romantically? Too indirect I think. Yes, it gets you in the middle of the conversation, but as a definitively platonic entity.

Anything you could follow it with, that I can come up with off the top of my head, just seems awkward at best, if not disingenuous. Eg;

"Hi, I don't think I've met you yet. I'm Johnny."

"Oh hi Johnny, I'm Lisa. How do you know Mark?", or "By the way this is my friend Samantha," or "how do you like the show so far?", etc. etc.

"(answer to her reply)", then, *"by the way I think you're really cute, and..."?

Better to use your "opener" as a follow-up to a more direct approach, if anything. Eg,

"Excuse me... I know this is super random, but I couldn't help but notice how absurdly cute you looked standing over here, and I just can't believe I haven't met you yet." I guess you could switch the elements around if for some reason you really wanted to, but they key is that once she responds to your indirect opening, the interaction is pretty firmly set as non-romantic.

Unless I'm missing some obvious element here? Please advise, if that's the case. Again I'm not disputing it's a great opener to meet someone, especially because yes, it never gets a negative response... but as a tactic of seduction I think it's ineffective.

Not bad, I prefer to use canned openers as a backup (although effective) and try to use an opener made on the spot from the surroundings, something they are wearing/doing, ect as its actually a challenge and can be more effective.

What if it's obvious that you haven't met before? I feel like if you go up to a stranger and say 'I don't think we have met before' wouldn't that be a bit out of context? Seeing as how there really isn't a way that you could have met before, I know it's along the lines of a white lie to get your foot in the door but just curious on others thoughts if you obviously would have never met this person before.

This is an excellent opener for any social setting. Doesn't even have to be related to seduction. I use something similar at my workplace to meet coworkers I sit close by but haven't had the chance to meet.

Wow. I don't know why I forgot about this one. In college I had a house right across from campus and had people over all the time for parties/pre-gaming/post-parties about three years solid.Three glorious years... Needless to say I did very well for myself, met a lot of girls and made a ton of friends, and this was pretty much verbatim my approach. It's funny because I used it from a very authentic place like the onus was on them. Pretty much communicating, "I live here, now how is it you are in my house, yet I don't know who you are?" As with everything in seduction/social interaction though, it's less about these words and more about the belief behind it. I'd say use this opener, but along with it, try and back it up with the belief that says this is my bar, house, party, bar mitzvah, etc.
