I like the points you make, and they all hold true... Except looks do matter. But just like everything else, it's not a big deal. Neither is kino, teasing, role playing, strong openers, etc. Someone who's terrible at one of these things, but has solid game otherwise, is going to do well.
Having good looks, which is subjective, is a helper. It doesn't make you more attractive, it makes people want to be attracted to you, if that makes any sense. They look for that vibe, and give you more leeway when your game is weak.
[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good point, I think it still relates back to what the OP was saying: people emit wavelengths, and believing oneself is attractive is more important than actually being attractive.
The thing is, when you actually are attractive, it's a proxy for a lot of the other parts of "game," mainly, confidence. I have told girls after meeting them only for a very short time the DUMBEST lines ever. They weren't even lines; they weren't even coherent statements, but I said it confident as fuck and they liked my vibe, not the objective things I said. It was all the emission of positive wavelengths.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Except there isnt a standardized definition on what is considered 'attractive'. People cant even agree with themselves over it. You might hate the tomboy look on a girl, until you meet one that rocks it so hard you cant not feel attracted. That girl never said 'im not attractive. guys dont like me because I don't look like Jessica Alba'. She embraces herself, and is so happy doing so it draws you in with her. You can exude that too, but it starts with yourself. I believe this is what the OP was saying.
This should obviously be taken with a grain of salt. If you have some bad habits that affect your appearance (OP gave good examples) then you need to accept them and fix it. Youll be happier with yourself for doing so. The number of people themselves that are fundamentally ugly are strikingly small. The majority of people who don't consider themselves attractive would be surprised by how much of an impact a haircut and a good outfit will make (and maybe an exercise routine) (if thats what you find attractive!)

He's talking about the law of attraction stuff, with a mix of "if you're failing, redefine your definition of success so you arent failing" which doesn't work.
[–]HelloHiHello 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nope. Read again – if you still feel that way, let me know why. Would love to clarify it.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If you aren’t your definition, you won’t be attractive.
and then you say to change your definition of attractive, so that you are attractive.
instead of changing yourself, change your belief. that is exactly what I said...
and read up on law of attraction... it basically says if i think it hard enough it'll happen. thats what you're saying. you shot yourself in the foot with the fat guy thinking hes attractive. a mans view of himself isnt percieved by women without words being exchanged. even then a brief conversation isn't necessarily going to make a woman think that you think you're hot shit.
[–]HelloHiHello 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do you mean what you said? Just clarifying.
Because I didn't say that. In fact, changing your belief is literally changing yourself – that's the entire point.
Most people think the "law of attraction" is magic. And no one can fault them for that, because the media has done so well at promoting it as a "magic pill" to cash in on the general public's discontent with modern day living.
People think, "if that were real, I could summon millions of dollars to my front door, I could make people do whatever I wanted, I could fly!"
These are all external events. People think that if the law of attraction were real, these things would be "popping up" in the external world.
But let me put a different spin on it. What if instead of external change, it was internal change?
You know everyone sees the world in a different way. A skeptic looks at a life-saving surgery much different from a religious fanatic. The skeptic sees the skill of the surgeon and the particular type of condition. The fanatic may see the hand of god throughout the entire process.
So who's right? Well, they both are. To themselves...
See, if the religious fanatic decided to change his belief system, his entire world would change with it.
Do you deny this?
That's what I'm talking about. Making changes internally which reflect on your perception of the external world.
So no, I'm not saying "think hard enough it'll happen." Do you see?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
WAY TO MISS THE ENTIRE POINT. no, looks dont matter and they arent a helper. Looks are neutral, its all about what you project
[–]thouliha -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Wow. 97 whiny upvotes from men who think they have it bad. Imagine what women have to deal with, where looks for them are 30x more important.
Looks don't matter for men. I can prove it with a simple statement. If an ugly girl tells you she owns a lamborghini, the guy would likely not care. If an ugly guy tells a woman the same, he will be instantly attractive. Good looks signifying health, are important for a woman, while survival/social status, is important for a man. Women need looks, men need wealth/status. They're both shallow, but nonetheless different.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If an ugly guy tells a woman the same, he will be instantly attractive.
Only if the ugly guy has game. Otherwise, he's pulling some fucking lame "CHECK OUT MAAH WATCH BABEH" bullshit.
Men do not need wealth. Status comes from confidence and character.
[–]Shitty_Freestyles 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'll just address a few points here, if you don't mind.
Why assume the people supporting this have bad looks? I am generally considered an above average looking guy. I had a bad time back when I was an afc, because I was a nice guy, unintentionally a creeper, and had no game. Looks alone couldn't save me, even though people would constantly compliment my looks. Which leads back to my original point. Its not the deciding factor, its simply a factor.
I would completely disagree that an ugly man telling a woman he owns a lambo would make him attractive. A rich guy with no looks and no game might be able to land someone planning on scamming him or playing him, but thats not attraction.
Do you actually speak to women? Or observe them, not as HB's and in FR's, but walking around and listening to them? They care about a lot of things, including both things they talk about and subconsciously. Trust me, they discuss how hot some guys are and how they'd throw themselves on them, without knowing anything more about them than their looks. I promise, they aren't just lying to themselves and each other. As I've said from the beginning, its a factor, but we all know not the only one.

I'm short. I've been rejected openly by girls for this. Not all attraction is in our control. That idea is delusional. The right mindset is to not care about those girls for whom my height is a problem. They are simply small speed bumps on the road to the women I like who will desire me back.
You don't have to be attractive to everyone, you just have to be OK with knowing this and proceed unhindered. Some girls will inevitably be attracted to you.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
I've been rejected openly by girls for this.
Girls constantly say, "I don't like <x> trait", but they don't always mean that. What they really mean is, "I'm saying something as an excuse as to why I won't date you". Of course, there are some girls who don't like short guys. For the most part, it's untrue. People, guys and girls, don't know what the fuck they want. They just say shit. Maybe, in her head, the girl was thinking of some short guy that happened to be a chode that she knew in the past, so she just internally associates shortness with chodiness. That doesn't mean she'll disqualify all short guys.
I notice that so many short guys put themselves down for being short, but that's just society feeding them bullshit. My friend is 5'4", physically fit (and ripped), intelligent, and has the testosterone of a hairy Russian. He gets more girls then I do. Yet, he still feeds his insecurities about his height despite his many successes. It's almost as if he thinks that his height somehow disqualifies his successes, which is pretty stupid.
Yes, not all attraction is in our control. But, the level of relevance that looks have is pretty damn small, assuming you have game.
Your height probably doesn't bother you yourself, so I'm sorry if this post seems too assertive. I just really hate those AskReddit posts, "omg I'm short/Indian/Asian/tall/fat/wide/black/etc. and girls say they don't like that, what do!?" I see these guys with such terrible limiting beliefs, and it just makes me think "NOOOO, DON'T LIVE IN THAT BOX!"
[–]magicroot75 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Maybe it is a small contingent, but I had a girl that absolutely loved the hell out of me sitting down at a club. Making out, sitting on my lap, she was way turned on. Then I pulled her out to the dance floor and I am like 3 inches shorter than her in heels. She got real different and turned completely off and would not dance. Sure, this is bullshit and she is not "worth my time", but it does happen.
[–]tibersky 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exceptions man, not the rule. It's bullshit but it also makes us human. movin on!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
It's totally a possibility that she suddenly thought, "hey he's shorter than me, whoops". But the thing is that anyone can suddenly have a thought pop in their head and kill the mood for whatever reason. I once went from heavy petting to "sorry, it's late".
That first paragraph. I've been doin that to people (I don't like <x> on people/ people that look like <x>) and I didn't even realize why I did it! Thanks man!

After reading a lot of these comments, it makes me realize that this post is way too high level for most people. I will call these people "materialists."
They are under the mistaken assumption that there is an objective reality, that there is something real "out there," and amazingly enough, they use their beliefs to bare this out.
At a core level, they are too afraid of testing their beliefs. They actually think they ARE their beliefs. And so, they are proven right, again and again.
The funniest part is they consider themselves scientific, yet remain unwilling to do experiments with different belief systems.
In short, they live in the Matrix.
Hence, the end of this post. Welcome to life outside the Matrix.
By far the best post I've read on Seddit and it explains everything, from rock stars to athletes. It's a meta-theory.
With that said, I would add that it's often easier to change one's behaviors than change one's beliefs, despite the fact that it would "seem" otherwise. YMMV.
Tl;dr Life is an energetic phenomenon, but you should probably still hit the gym and get nice clothes.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
This is one of the most frustrating things about Seddit. People whose beliefs have been fashion by society have led us to believe that looks are what's attractive. Attraction is something that happens on subtle, primal, emotional level. I understand that it's hard for someone to accept the notion that looks don't matter if they've never had success with women before. But that doesn't mean their beliefs are true. They're beliefs are simply the culmination of their personal experiences.
On one hand, the skepticism that a lot of these posters have displays a decent baseline of intelligence. On the other hand, it's a shame that the same people won't experiment and give these things a shot. Unfortunately, a lot of skeptics view these posts through a lens of their own limiting beliefs. Or, they just take this shit too literally, rather than think/read between the lines. Or, they half-ass their attempts (which is understandable, hard to honestly put effort into something you don't really believe in), which then fucks up their results.
I guess all I can say is, to the nay-sayers out there, you're the ones that are missing out. This post is gold. If anyone wants to feed into their own negative thought loops and limiting beliefs, they're free to do so. I won't blame 'em, because it's impossible to suddenly change your beliefs. But, I'll go and get some pussy.
[–]HelloHiHello 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being rational and open minded.
As far as life philosophy goes, one of skepticism and rationality will lead to a much higher level of experience than a life led by dogma or religion designed to control.
But it's still a belief system. And in many ways, skepticism can be just as limiting as religion. In fact, it can be even more limiting because it's justified by the outside world.
Science and skepticism are the eternal "right."
But it accounts for very little of the human experience, because the human experience happens in the spontaneous moment, and science is simply our attempt to get as close to recreating that spontaneous moment as possible.
And it does a damn good job.
Thing is, you can lead a life of skepticism and rationality and still have access to the heavier side of life – what lies underneath what we perceive with our five senses.
Unfortunately, this area has long been occupied by charlatans and slimy, moral-less humans, looking to take advantage of the fact that science doesn't reach the moment.
Is it any wonder there's such a negative reaction? Actually, I think it's a good thing, even though it prevents deeper introspection.
That being said, what if something that sounded "too good to be true," actually was?
And what if no one knew it because it was "too good to be true?"
Rationality actually tells us to take a closer look. IF this sounds feasible, IF it could actually deliver on what it promises, isn't it overwhelmingly logical to just give it a shot?
It sucks if we let our "logic" override LOGIC.
[–]HelloHiHello 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely.
In theory, instant belief change is possible. I'm not even close to that stage, though, and I realize just how difficult it is to escape societies chains.
But it's possible. And isn't that amazing?
[–]poke588 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
All I got from the OP is that liking yourself is an attractive quality, and that you don't have to change your physical appearance at all necessarily in order to foster self worth.

That's because you don't believe it makes you attractive.
I have tried to see how far you can get with awful stories as long as you tell them with enthusiasm. Sure, there are stories which are simply awful and turns people off no matter how you tell them (Finding dead kitties in your garbage disposal in the Winter), but even bad stories (such as being locked out of your house, naked) can keep the attention of a girl.

if you're in one of the most famous rock bands of all time and rich.
This is the all-important concept. There is an IF. Looks don't matter.
You can write it off as "most famous rock bands of all time and rich" if you want, but it seems more productive to say, "why do those variables cancel out looks?"
Clearly there are more important factors then looks. So the question is, how do we get these factors, and how much do we need? And then the question is, is it really fame and money that cause attraction, or the vibe naturally emitted by a person with those two things in his life?
If it's the vibe, we can reconstruct that. Which it is, which we can.
[–]Penny_is_a_Bitch 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was immediately about to write this off as I do with most r/sedu posts about people just finally figuring shit out, this was great though. Well put and walks people through logic to lead them to a conclusion they wouldn't always find on their own, a bit whimsical and "belief in yourselfy" but it is true as far as I have experienced life.

Ninja Edit: I just googled this
[–]AFCInVan 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That's a really good point.
I went to university with a guy in some of my classes that was really really good looking. Some of the girls I used to hang out with were really into him. Heck he looked like a male model, was tall, very fit, great hair and smile and dressed really well. He looked good.
One day in one of our classes we had to give a presentation on the projects we were working on. His turn came and he got up in front of everyone and was shaking like a leaf, sweating and stumbling over his words. I kid you not, he looked nervous, scared and like he was about to start crying.
I agree with you and Shitty_Freestyles... I think looks do matter somewhat but appearances matter more. Appearances can be worked on and developed and should be worked on.

Sorry this wavelength crap is some pseudo-psychological bullshit.
[–]HelloHiHello 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Call it something else then, no problem.
What I say is not a hypothesis. It is nothing more than an observation of natural processes which are already at work. It is not "evolutionary psychology" which teaches you why you can get women if you're an "alpha male."
It's simple observation.
Saying "pseudo-psychological" does two things for you – makes you appear rational in front of everyone, and enables you to avoid doing any restricting of your beliefs, which is exactly what you want to avoid.
Because you feel if you reconstruct your beliefs, YOU, as you currently are, will die.
It's true but not at the same time.
Can you tell me specifically what parts turn you off about this? I realize "wavelength" and "broadcasting signals" can be words and phrases which cause red flags to go off in rational human beings.
No problem. Seriously.
I'd just like to illustrate this concept without triggering those alarm bells, because it truly is valuable.
Can you imagine, if it was actually real? It is. I just need the right way to explain it.
[–]asad16 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
This is probably one of the most frustrating things about r/seduction. Pseudo psychology is just old PUA techniques to convince noobs that there is a "science" behind PUA. This and NLV is the dumbest shit I have ever seen on here

Great article, I was able to connect fully with everything. A great view on self-image, self-acceptance, and the almost philosophical absurdism of attractiveness. All humans know what we need to do to be attractive. We just need to go do it.
[–]kokeen19 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
looks don't matter. it's your "look" that matters.have a style,be well groomed, fitted clothes. spend some time actually working on your grooming and clothes whatever that may be. look fresh.
[–]eXXaXion 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
One major flaw: what about looks that actively influence interactions in a bad way? Like a guy who is missing 5 of his front teeth? Do you think a girl would like to kiss him because his game is smooth?
Maybe yes, but I'm certain a guys like that won't be making out in the clubs much, right after meeting a girl. I guy like that will almost asuredly never get one night-stands and a guy like that will have to work that much harder.
Overall, looks don't matter if you're just looking at getting results. But the better you look the less you'll have to work for your results. So in that regard looks most certainly do matter. Especially, if the guy is just looking for fun and not for a long.term girlfriend.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm not missing any teeth, but what I usually do is pick up girls at other places than clubs. You know, places where you can hear each other. A few hours of being awesome can change a lot of impressions.
Yeah, I don't get to walk up to some slut and instantly make out with her, but I can't stand clubs anyway, so I don't feel like I'm missing out. I prefer hitting it off with someone and flirting a little before making a move.

True, but there are guys who like clubs and want to quickly pick up sluts. So yeah looks do matter depending in what you want. No everyone has the time for long dates or even a relationship.
I agree, but I was saying it's possible to go somewhere in between. You can chat a girl up, fuck her, and leave it at that. Just because someone can't get blown in the club bathroom by a random chick within five minutes of meeting her, doesn't mean they can't do one night stands.

[–]Squaddy 14 points15 points16 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's such a closed-minded way of thinking, especially in this sub.
You'll get the upvotes and I'll get the downvotes because the general reddit attracts alot of overweight, insecure guys who feel unsuccessful with women.
I agree it's the lack of confidence and insecurity that is why overweight guys fail. If you thought you were THE HOTTEST GUY, girls would be attracted to your attitude, your confidence, your aura. Even if you weren't good looking.
I know two guys, right. One guy is the classic good looking guy, tall, chiselled jaw etc. He opens his mouth and instantly that is wiped away. This guy is so shy and awkward, and hence gets no girls. He has more girls liking him, but he doesn't get anywhere.
I have another mate who is overweight, hairy, ugly guy. He has plenty of sex, girls are just attracted to him. I scratched my head the first time I saw it, I was so confused. It was all about how fun he was, his attitude of not really caring had the girls very interested.
I really agree with OP on this one.
[–]Frankocean2 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I love your second paragraph.
I'm fat, like football lineman fat and I don't have any problems whatsoever with girls.
People in here, very sad to say are fixed on just a face of "pick up" which is "I want to fuck as many girls as I possible can" and I can understand that, I was that guy and the results were mixed..some hit, a lot of misses, but then I started to focus on what makes me be a fine ass gent. My strengths.
What almost everyone in this subreddit tends to ignore and people are people..(Duh I know) but there's a human element in each one of us, some people hide it really well, others do not..and almost no one pays attention to the person in front of you, sure you may listen but are you paying attention??.
That hot chick, she's been hot all of her life do you know how she handle things?, how was her childhood like?, her favorite memory from that time and place? her saddest? are you a good story teller??.
I could go on and on, but everyone can fuck some chicks either with money, power or you name it...being that guy that is remembered with a smile when she's hiking, at the beach etc...that takes something else and many of you, sadly don't understand that..you just wanna "bang chicks".

But this will be very, very difficult to believe. In society, we’ve repeatedly heard only thin people who smell good and have clear skin are attractive. So in order to fully believe you could be the opposite and still be attractive, you would need to utterly destroy all your beliefs and rebuild them from the ground up.

Fat smelly acne-ridden neckbeards are going to have a hard time getting girls. That's why fittit and MFA exist.
[–]Loooogan7 points 13 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
No one is arguing that fit, stylish guys do better with women. What the OP is arguing is that the very act of becoming what the individual believes will make him attractive, is what gives him the confidence to actually behave in an attractive way, and thus, be attractive.
I'm not saying I necessarily agree or disagree. I work out five days a week and groom myself rather carefully. But it's an interesting hypothesis.

My friend is a 400 lb Samoan guy who turns down girls all the time. Its all in how you carry it and how you accept it.
400lb Samoan guys are the definition of badass
[–]readonlyuser 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If your looks are a hindrance to doing better with women, then by definition looks do matter, which is the counterpoint of OP's point: "belief equals reality".
I see this thread as some guy saying that one of the tools that help you to seduce doesn't matter- "X doesn't matter. It's just about the Y!" Just because Y is important, doesn't mean that X isn't important.
[–]dimitrije83 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You don't need to oversimplify things to make your point, which now happens to be lost because of that. We do feel the attraction first and then rationalize it according to our beliefs, but we are biologically wired to do so. But many, many factors are to be taken into equation. The one you are mentioning is very important but still just one piece of a puzzle.
What are the others?
[–]Squaddy 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've seen plenty of overweight guys get girls. I've seen ugly UGLY guys get girls. Overweight, hairy etc. It's their attitude of not giving a fuck that attracts those girls.
[–]Wavedasher 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
look guys, it's really not that difficult.
this is something I read on the subreddit a while ago; I forgot who wrote this. but credit goes to him, not me:
to rate girls, I use a scale like this: 25% face, 25% body, 25% personality, and 25% prowess. Thus, a girl who's a 7 face, 8 body, 8 personality, and 7 prowess would be a HB 7.5 overall.
for guys, it's weighted more like this: 15-20% face, ~26-28% each for everything else.
you can disagree with me if you want: this is completely subjective.
but it's a way of reconciling the fact that your facial attractive matters, but not nearly as much as you think. instead of worrying about how you look, why not try to improve the other three components? (ie body, personality, and prowess)
This is exactly what I'm talking about. By altering the scale you use to judge yourself, you can convince yourself you are attractive, at which point you'll start broadcasting the signal of being attractive.
[–]Picture_me_this 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Something I'd like to add here. If you are attractive and you base your self esteem on your hawt looks/six pack or whatever, you have to realize that you are not your body and that looks are temporary. What happens when six pack guy gets old, fat and bald, what then? Also, another thing about looks is that you're subtly comparing yourself to other guys, and that's always a loosing proposition. Please don't base your game on looks guys.
[–]blucheez 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
So, the jist of what you're saying is, if you match your definition of what you find ideal, you'll have more confidence, which you'll project onto the world and thus become more attractive.
That means, the more confident of a person you are, the more likely you are to find a mate.
While I agree that is part of it, the flaw is here: I've been attracted to unconfident, shy girls in the past. And despite their shyness, they were physically attractive.
Yes, being confident helps
Yes, matching your ideal makes you more confident.
No, this isn't the only factor, looks still matter.
One more problem: I'm attracted mainly to Asian women, and I am Caucasian. How could I even change myself to be Asian to match my ideal? Lol.
Now, the title of your article was "Why looks don't matter." This is blatantly false, and serves as a "hook" for your diatribe. Looks still matter, but there's more involved than looks alone, which is what you pointed out. Try making your posts have less manipulative titles.
[–]HelloHiHello 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Ah, YES!
Man, I was this close to including "what about shy girls?", but didn't because it took up a lot of space.
One thing, especially with girls, is they can be shy and still believe they are attractive. This very rarely happens with men, as "outgoing" is generally viewed as an attractive trait (which, by the way, has nothing to do with physical looks).
Also, this brings up other issues. Because we're broadcasting lots of signals – not just attractiveness.
For example, you could meet a shy girl, find her very attractive, yet she could be impossible to love. You tell her you love her, but she doesn't believe it. She believes that she is impossible to love and so she is.
Have you ever found a girl attractive, but not wanted to pursue her? A girl that looks good and has a good feel to her, but someone you just don't want to get involved with sexually?
This happens to us guys too, we can give off the attractive signal, and some girls will see us as attractive but not want to get in a sexual relationship.
And that has to do with other signals. In general, realize you will never get 100% of the girls in this world, but there are more beautiful women who want you than you could ever handle in your lifetime.
You're absolutely right, the title is a hook.
But that's the point of this article: looks are a simple variable. Your looks make no difference in the level of success you either experience or don't experience – how you define attraction is the vibe you display.
That being said, you're right. I'll certainly consider my titles better.
And that's another lesson – it's not just about what the title says. For example, with this post alone, there's a high chance many will read it and not look for what I'm saying.
They'll see the title "Looks don't matter," then go into the article looking to find any flaws with that proposition, as "looks matter" is a cornerstone to our society.
The end result is people not finding anything that may give them value in their life, simply because they're not looking for it.
And as the writer, that's entirely my fault. So thanks for that reminder!
[–]blucheez 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yup, this would wear thin quickly and become tiresome.
You're mixing terms / contradicting yourself here. If looks ARE a variable, then "looks make no difference" is wrong, because then looks wouldn't be a variable.
Let's make an equation:
Success = (0.3*looks) + (0.5*attitude) + (n*(weight_n*variable_n))
I arbitrarily assigned weights to looks and attitude, of 30% and 50% respectively. At the end, I put a generic summation of other possible variables we haven't discussed (such as, ethnicity or maybe sexuality)
Anyway, this is an equation, and looks are a variable. That means they do matter.
You can't have a variable that doesn't matter unless it's always multiplied by a constant zero, which, in the case of looks we know isn't true.
The point you're trying to make, is that looks aren't the only variable. In fact, you might even be claming that looks are the least important variable, however, that doesn't make them "not matter."

truly great post, probably one of the most detailed and provactive that I have ever seen....however finding out what you believe is attractive and then achieving it is the hardest part....not an easy thing to accomplish by anyones standards...back to the football example...i personally have never felt like i needed to play football to be attractive...but lets say i felt like i did...and i was extremely skinny...and weak...and shy....and scared of atheletics.... then the amount of work it would take to become "attractive" in my mind would be of the extremes...and that is the hardest part for some people, knowing what to change and how in order to better yourself....as much as this community tries to help it is just something that will never be quote on quote easy...

• People who are thin are attractive. • Men with big muscles get all the girls.
• People who are thin are attractive.
• Men with big muscles get all the girls.
A bit of a contradiction
That's the point. Attraction is nothing but a definition, defined by you.
[–]Crislips 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
The proper term you are looking for is "confidence," not "broadcasting a wavelength of attractiveness." Women like men who are confident. The more confident you are in yourself, the better your game will be and the better your chances will be, regardless of looks. And I mean really confidence, not some pseudo-bullshit front where you act all cocky in front of people and frown at yourself in the mirror. I mean real confidence that springs from self-acceptance, loving yourself and who you are. Looks are certainly influential for initial cold attraction, so that does help game, but it isn't the only thing. Even a 500 pound guy with bad acne and doesnt shower can have confidence (but I'm betting those are all signs of giving up, not self-acceptance). The point is, don't be bummed if you're not the best looking guy. Deal with it. It happens. Every single person in the world has had something that they don't like about themselves. But that doesn't mean you should let it affect you. You are who you are, and just like a game of poker, you have to play the hand dealt to you, whether it's a royal flush or a shit hand. It's all about the confidence you project about yourself and your hand. Women can usually tell by the walk and talk of someone who is confident in themself. It's not some frequency your are broadcasting like a radio, it's a mindset that transforms the way you perform your everyday, simple actions from thinking about every step you take, to walking the way you walk and not caring who else walks that way or what they think about it.
But it has to be real. You truly have to accept yourself for the best results. And treating yourself right. Be healthy. Be active. Treat others with kindness. Be assertive, be firm, but avoid hostility as much as possible. The difference between hostility and assertiveness seems to be a fine line that many Betas cross all to often. Care about the things that you care about, and not what you think people want you to care about. Do the things that you find interesting, not what you think others would find you interesting for. Whatever you do, maintain your confidence. This is what makes people unique and interesting, not just to women, but to any person you meet.
To me, having confidence is the number one rule to seduction. I personally have very little gauge on my own attractiveness level. It used to be something that I would wonder about. But I realized it's irrelevant. I am who I am, and game should not be based around looks. Remember guys, seduction should be fun, not some hypercritical process that upsets you if you screw up. There are plenty of people out there for you to try on until you know who works for you. Just whatever you do, stay firm and confident in your beliefs and your actions.
Love yourself, love each other, and most of all do things that make you happy. If you can adopt this mindset your game will improve dramatically as well as your everyday interactions and relationships.

Are you asking from a philosophical standpoint, like what does it mean to truly have confidence? Or have you never heard the word before and are inquiring about it? Because I find it hard to believe you've grown up without hearing this word unless english is not your first language.
[–]HelloHiHello 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Neither.
I'm asking from a practical standpoint. What is "confidence"? What mechanics are at work that cause it? What starts the process, what keeps it going, why does confidence come and go...
That's what I want to know. Dissecting the "concept" to its base level, in order to get some practical insight from it.
[–]Crislips 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I pretty much cover that in my original post. I more or less agree with what you've stated, but I figured I would critique and add to it.
[–]jethro_skull 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I definitely think this is true. About twenty pounds ago (I was heavier than I am now) I got far more men than I do now- simply because I found myself sexier, even though I was on the heavy side of healthy. Now that I'm far thinner, I don't get nearly as many guys hitting on me- because I just don't feel as sexy!
Kinda weird how that works. Even if society tells you what's acceptable, if your belief in yourself goes against society's standard, if you feel good about yourself, people like you more.
[–]adyboss8 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
To that, there is a misconception that people are confident because they are attractive, BUT it's the other way around, they are attractive BECAUSE they are confident. On the other hand there are cases were looks actually help a lot, but not how you think. I met this chick one night, she was 33 and I was still 19. We hooked up until the end of the night, but the interesting thing was that she told me that I looked like one of her high school crushes, which means she anchored feelings for that guy by his looks. The fact that my looks were similar brought up those feelings which, I think, helped e a lot.
Great points!

You're not incorrect. You're actually correct. To you.
See, you have the belief that you can't compete in a club. So you can't.
Do you think you would be able to? Do you think you could have your current mindset, go into a club and thrive? Go into a club and "win" over "tanned muscular guys?"
Now THAT would be magic. Not the reconstructing of beliefs, but actually getting results when your entire brain is wired against success.
That would be magic.
But it doesn't happen.

I am a very attractive male, however; my friend who is monumentally less attractive usually gets the better looking of the girls we talk to. Why? Confidence.
He is confident, I am sadly.... cocky. Either way, as an attractive male it may be bias but I've only gotten one or two girls strictly by my looks (not counting high school)

[–]HelloHiHello 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
You know exactly what aspect of your personality makes people perceive you as someone who thinks they're better than everyone else.
First, realize this: you project everything. You hide nothing. You may think you can hide things since people aren’t picking up on them. But that’s simply because they aren’t tuning into the wavelength you’re broadcasting, not that you aren’t broadcasting anything.
People are picking up on something you're broadcasting, what is it?
The question is, would you prefer to get the girls your friend is getting, or are you 100% happy where you are at?

[–]nivar2 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
I am short (5'3) and feel that women don't like short guys. There is voice in my head that says that she wont like me because you are short.
That is clearly the belief preventing you from thinking you're attractive.
And if you think about it, you'll see this to be true. Even on days when you look good, you still say, "yeah, but I'm short."
Concentrate on how you feel when you go out. When a woman rejects you, do you think "if I was only taller"?
How do you feel in interactions? Is your height in the background, no matter what? This is clearly affecting your self-image, which is clearly affecting every interaction you're in.
I feel for you. Not because you're short, but because of how we view male height in society. This makes it exponentially more difficult to get rid of the belief stopping you from being attractive in the first place.
As far as practical advice goes, I might suggest getting some height raising shoes: http://www.altitudeshoes.com
No, they're not platform shoes. They are virtually invisible and boost your height three inches or so.
But remember, these are for YOU, not for the girls. It would be common to think, "oh, but when I take them off, this girl will think I'm a fake and not attractive!"
No, you wore the shoes to align with your own beliefs of attraction. You're simply using them to project the attractive vibe. I take it you have little to no problems once you're alone with a woman? It's more going out and meeting them that is difficult?
Let me know how this sounds and I can type some more based on your response.

[–]thouliha 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
This argument is interesting, but a subjective vs. objective argument isn't really needed here. We should really talk about what women and men desire, not about what energies they project.
Broadly speaking, women desire the survival value of a man, his ability to care for her needs, and the needs of their future(possibly including a family). He needs social status, social ability, wealth, respect/admiration, etc
Men desire the reproductive value of a woman, her health, beauty, warmth, ability to procreate and care for her children and anyone else.
So health/looks are not as important for a male as a female, while wealth and social skills are much more important for a male than a female. This post is about why looks don't matter, but social ability does, for men.
"Women" and "men" are broad umbrella terms that are used to cover a HUGE number of individuals.
And that's what we deal with in seduction: INDIVIDUAL WOMEN, all whom are different.
Therefore, knowing what women generally desire isn't practical. What's working for me, as far as creating my dream lifestyle in the real world, not theoretical, is knowing that what's "attractive" comes from within.
[–]thouliha 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This exemplifies two schools in seduction, oddly representing part 1 and 2 of the 'art of seduction' by robert greene. The first school focuses on seductive personality traits, magnetic personality types, etc. The second school focuses on the process of seduction, building rapport, creating triangles.
The second school is usually the dominant one, especially online. That's because it's just more definable, testable, and reproduceable. You can tell a guy to DHV, but you can't tell him to be as confident as James Dean. You say that knowing what's attractive comes from within, effectively stating that self-confident personalities make for seduction, the first school. Okay, then give me some advice. You know nothing about me, what might make me seductive, and what might not. I am just as unique as the women we are trying to seduce.
Its easy to see why a lot of guys have read this post with frustration; you haven't offered any advice other than, attraction comes from within. It's like telling someone with no confidence to be confident, or someone without any smarts to be smart. You have to tell them some practical way to get there.
I've laid out what I think men and women desire from an evolutionary standpoint. There will be exceptions, but I think it generally stands to reason that from that standpoint, looks are not important for a man. To flip your argument a bit, I would wager that while self-confidence is attractive, if I found a very fat but very self-confident woman, I would still not find her attractive. So what about you? If attractiveness comes from within, would you be willing to fuck an obese but self confident and successful woman?
Also I personally feel that the first school fails because it is much easier to change a person's actions than to change the person. A rule of persuasion goes, a person is defined by their actions, not by their personality.
If attractiveness comes from within, would you be willing to fuck an obese but self confident and successful woman?
No – I'm a man.
Sounds like you've got a great idea on the direction you want to go in. Let me know if you have questions down the road!

You're trying to undermine everything evolution has shown us about sexual attraction on the basis that a rich rockstar can get laid? Women want security in a mate--true--hence why wealth, popularity, power and confidence are so important, but to say the power of sexual attraction is worthless in the face of these things is naive. And women are just as superficial as men are as far as that goes.
Yes, there is some variation as to what is attractive. In fact, two very different women (or men) can be attractive. Yet, it's important to note that they are both still physically attractive. As a straight man, have you ever been attracted to a woman that looks like a straight man? Case in point.
Look at Brad Pitt. He's rich, famous and good-looking. And I think he has a much stronger pull with the general female population than our friend Tyler does.
Now, as is always the case, some women will look at two men who are close in physical attractiveness and pick the slightly "uglier" one out of preference for his personality. If you get accepted to Harvard and Stanford and Yale, are you going to base your pick solely on the rankings? No, they're all good schools. You pick the one that "fits" by that point.
Like most games or sport, seduction involves a little bit of chance. You can only change your physical attractiveness so much. And sure, you can win without it. But when you choose to ignore it, you hurt your own odds.

You're trying to undermine everything evolution has shown us about sexual attraction on the basis that a rich rockstar can get laid?
What has evolution shown us about sexual attraction?
And no, that's not the point. The seduction community says "looks matter."
Then you show a rockstar and they say, "Oh, well of course they don't matter for a rockstar!"
But why? That's the point.
And I think he has a much stronger pull with the general female population than our friend Tyler does.
Not sure where you got this from.
If you get accepted to Harvard and Stanford and Yale, are you going to base your pick solely on the rankings? No, they're all good schools. You pick the one that "fits" by that point.
This is actually exactly what I'm talking about.
[–]Wiskie 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm saying that in the spirit of natural selection, there are physical traits that are attractive and there are those that aren't. You can't win the sexual attraction of any woman on the planet even by having excellent game if you have nothing else. She has to be interested in your body as well, otherwise it's not going anywhere. You don't get to just ignore this whole aspect of it. There's a reason why you and your mark are attracted to what you're each attracted to, and the evolutionary goal at the end of the line is sex and procreation.
By choosing Stephen Tyler as an example, I hope you realize that you're admitting that you believe him to be less attractive than perhaps another man of similar fame. Why wouldn't women feel the same way?
"If you get accepted to Harvard and Stanford and Yale, are you going to base your pick solely on the rankings? No, they're all good schools. You pick the one that "fits" by that point." This is actually exactly what I'm talking about.
"If you get accepted to Harvard and Stanford and Yale, are you going to base your pick solely on the rankings? No, they're all good schools. You pick the one that "fits" by that point."
Ok fine, but that still doesn't nullify the fact that there has to be a physical, sexual attraction present to begin with.
I guess my point is that if you're trying to maximize your worth to the women you're trying to attract, you're going to have to be conscious of the individual and group preferences of women on the appearance front.
by having excellent game
What does excellent game mean to you? Is it a bunch of clever things to say?
By choosing Stephen Tyler as an example
Not an example, a reminder that looks will neither make or break your chances at seduction success. Although he's also a good example, listing him as an example is a bad idea, as it makes people think "well, then you need to be rich and famous," while disregarding everything else mentioned.
[–]Wiskie 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I would say game is a loosely defined "aura, attitude, a form of confidence" or some other abstraction that can be developed over time by an individual.
And having it is great. But it doesn't seem like a stretch to me that sexual attraction is a least somewhat dependent on what you can see, hear, and feel. Sex exists as a method of transferring positive traits down to the next generation. Some of those traits are physical ones, and your biological desire to pass them on is what leads you (and your mark) to carry on relations.
It's not about tricking a woman to be attracted to someone who's ugly, because a woman would never be sexually attracted to a man she considers "ugly" in the first place. That dichotomy can't exist.
At the very least, physical attractiveness and "game" are interrelated, and like I said, you have to be conscious of the former if you wish to increase the odds of success.
If you want to get into pseudo-evolutionary biology, realize that physical traits aren't inherently better than other physical traits. E.g., being tall isn't better than being short. Having more mass isn't better than having less mass. And vice-versa. Each physical characteristic has its own strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, "transferring physical traits" could not be even a minor goal for sex, merely a byproduct. Of course, we're ignoring serious physical deformations, like losing a limb. (But even that doesn't matter in modern society)
On a very deep level, attraction for a woman is generally based on the man's behavior. In jungles, a short man with a disfigured jaw could still stab a tiger to death. It just depended on who had the balls to stab that tiger.

[–]wellBelowPAR 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are spot on with this. Everyone can be sexy in their own right, its just a case of whether they are willing to put in the effort to meet their "goal" to be attractive. People who goes to the gym, put up with the hard yards to achieve a athlete build, and what is the reward out of this? Self confidence and a aesthetic look. It's all about setting realistic goals to achieve their own definition of "attractiveness", then putting in a effort to workfor it. By the time the result has been achieved, the "insecurity" thought disappeares due to the hard work.
TL;DR: Set goals and work hard for them and insecurity thoughts will disappear
I don't jack off to wavelengths.
That's what you think.
I agree to a certain extent; I've written a couple of papers on the definition of beauty and the role of the mainstream media in affecting people's perceptions of it, and it really is an issue with people's own self-imposed beliefs of what exactly beautiful/attraction is.
A lot of people (unless you choose to disassociate yourself from it - something I wish everyone could do, but, alas, this is 2012 and Advertising reigns supreme. sigh, I guess that's a discussion for another day) are constantly barraged by magazines/newspapers/tv adverts/radio adverts/tv shows/musicians/film stars all having what the mainstream media consider to be a 'perfect body'.
"Hey! You can get ripped and have perfect abs in 6 weeks and get any girl you want if you just buy this magazine and follow these simple steps!" This leads to the frame of mind, "Hey, maybe I need a 6 pack for girls to find me attractive?" - pretty much what you're saying, I pretty much agree.
However, dude let's get realistic here - you are not going to be attractive to anyone (other than, fuck, what like 0.5% of the population?) if you're obese, stink, are unhealthy and have terrible skin.
Not because you aren't 'broadcasting an attractive signal', but because of what we are as humans. If you go back, I mean way back, or even look at the animal kingdom for an example (unless of course you believe in the ancient-astronaut theory of how we came to be, in which case this is irrelevant and I have nothing for you).
Animals mate with the strongest male, whereas males look to reproduce with as many fucking females as possible - my gene is best, you want it, trust me.
We are intelligent creatures, but creatures nonetheless. The definition of 'strongest' may not necessarily be the guy with the thickest mane, the biggest balls and a barrel chest, but maybe just a guy who has got it going on - he's confident and sure in himself, is driven, passionate etc etc etc
Basically, what I'm saying is, throw your perceptions of beauty out of the window - they are all fabricated machinations of mainstream media. Brad Pitt is good looking BECAUSE YOU'RE TOLD HE'S GOOD LOOKING, likewise with girls - size 6, big tits, small waist, nice face - it's all just what you're told, from an early age (just look at Disney ffs).
But you also need to take into account the fact that a guy that looks as if he's about to die from being seriously unhealthy or just offensive to be around is not going to be attractive until he gets himself together.
tl:dr beauty is a perception instilled by mainstream media, but hey man being healthy and clean doesn't hurt either

Looks don't matter, unless you're short.
If that's what you think.
[–]kohbo 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't normally think that way. Meeting people as a short person is easy. Picking up girls, on the other hand, is a whole different ball game. I can't tell you the number of times my height has put a stop to things. If any short guy on here wants to give some advice on overcoming this, I'd be more than happy to listen. By the way, I'm 5'3".

Looks matter in that if you have good looks and appearance, you wouldn't need to bother with any of this creepy PUA bullshit.
Wish that were true.
Why are you choosing to be creepy.

Why looks do matter: evolution.
[–]ChristmasDeviant -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok.
[–]HelloHiHello0 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
It's easy to say that and avoid introspection. I understand.
But life is found underneath the surface.
[–]MARSpu -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
I didn't say they are the #1 determining factor. I said looks matter because evolution. You can try and flip the script on me all you want by stating that I'm avoiding something, while you outright ignore years of compiled evidence and scientific studies that refute your short-term motivational shenanigans, but that doesn't change what is and what isn't there. Try again.
PS. It's a good idea not to attack someone's personal identity but rather, the argument being put out, when you're debating. I'm very convinced you "understand" my "avoidance of introspection", considering that you're a complete stranger on the internet, but it might be a good idea to refute what I'm actually saying, rather than resorting to name-calling.
[–]HelloHiHello0 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
What I said is not an insult or an attack.
[–]MARSpu -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You stated that it's easy to agree with generations of science and avoid introspection. One would assume from there that you're telling others that they're avoiding introspection, when the argument I'm putting forth is how our evolution operates. Introspection and biologically-related arguments are not mutually exclusive, either.
Let me rephrase it my way, then. If I said to you,
It's easy to say that and avoid biological and behavior sciences. I understand. But life is found rooted in your genetics.
do you see what i mean?
[–]rmbarnes -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Looks and game aren't mutually exclusive, develop both.
While I'm in the "looks don't fucking matter" crowd, serious this. Why not have both, if you got the time and resources?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Looks matter a whole lot, particularly for first impressions.
For a huge number of people, looks are the reason to start a conversation or make an effort to get to know someone.
That said, for most people I've talked with, confidence is far more important in the long run - a person who is comfortable with themselves can be way more attractive than someone who would be objectively hotter if all you cared about was appearance.
But that first impression is huge. If your first interaction with me is seeing me across a crowded room, carrying myself with confidence isn't going to help me much when I haven't had a shave, a shower, or fresh clothes in a week.
You're talking more about how you present yourself and not looks.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Ever notice people are more willing to call an ugly person with confidence a narcissist?
I actually haven't.
That being said, a huge number of us are actually narcissist, and it's very likely someone who calls another "narcissist" is, themselves, a narcissist.
Actually now that I think about it, I work in the psych field and that's probably why I hear that word used. Either way, good read
[–]uberafc -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
great post!!! I think its going to spark a lot of debate but its a great post. Keep them coming man. I said it before but your posts are freaking amazing. Regardless of what others think, you are putting out some great content on here.
[–]flyersfan314 -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Would a tl;dr of this be, "confidence in who you are is everything."?
Possibly, although I feel "confidence" is a blanket term with little to no practicality.
[–]nosleepatall -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd agree that it plays an important role to believe yourself to be attractive to be perceived as attractive. But you are going overboard with that 500 pound, acne-ridden, unwashed guy. I feel that it encourages guys to not working at themselves at all and focus on you just have gotta belieeeve. And that would be plain wrong. Do both.
Start believing you're attractive, but also start to be the best you possibly can. Life may have dealt you some bad cards, but there are a lot of points very easy to improve. For example, that showering thing, or some basing grooming.
And never forget that some women may get that "attractive" signal and respond, but no guy will ever be attractive to all the girls. Perhaps the one you'd want the most is underwhelmed. It happens. That's where outcome independence comes into play. It sucks if a girl isn't into you, but there are a lot of them, and others may be so impressed that words fail them.
Worthwhile read. I don't totally agree, because your definition of attractiveness also affects how you categorize others and theirs affect how they categorize you. If anyone finds your overweight, acne-ridden, smelly guy physically attractive, then they are part of a tiny minority.
I do see the truth to some of what you're saying though. I've noticed that I haven't changed as much as my definition of attractiveness has changed. The guys I saw getting girls in high school dressed like douchebags, and they became my definition of attractiveness for awhile. Now I realize that my sharp, clean cut, sleek style is much more attractive and a lot of girls like that level of refinement.
[–]targetLocked -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Your point that attractiveness is the cognitive alignment of what you are and what you think is attractive is... correct and also a restatement of what this subreddit already says a lot. That said, I think you take it too far with saying things like:
“Does this mean I can be 500 pounds, have terrible acne, never shower and still be attractive?” Yes. But only if you believe it.
“Does this mean I can be 500 pounds, have terrible acne, never shower and still be attractive?”
But only if you believe it.
I get that you're taking your thesis to an extreme to perhaps solidify your point, but I think we should always be seeking to improve ourselves rather than restructure our entire mental paradigm to accept the worst of ourselves. 500 lbs isn't healthy, attractiveness aside. Acne is damaging to the skin and fully treatable. Daily hygiene is necessary even for common courtesy at school/in the workplace.
The very first PUA literature I ever read talks about how you can be a short, stocky, balding middle-aged man and still get laid (and let's forget for a moment the marketing angle there), but it also went on to talk about how easily you can change limiting factors like fashion sense, hygiene, etc. So while focusing on confidence and inner game is very important, we shouldn't ignore those things that are in our power to improve.
[–]choc_is_back -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
lol, way to use a sensational headline only to contradict it entirely trough you post. Looks don't matter, except you should decide on which look you want and than obtain it?
How is that a contradiction?
[–]thefreedude -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are wise as you are attractive.
[–]colucci -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Looks do matter. I was a fucking twig in my teens, and I got absolutely no attention from anyone, male or female. Started going to the gym, now I'd say I look better than the average male, and I have girls approach me rather than me approaching them. All the girlfriends I've had, I've been approached by them first.
Not boasting or anything, just sharing my experience - looks do matter a lot. It's a nice little self-esteem boost for less fortunate guys to think that looks don't matter but it's simply not true.
Having said that, an average look and a lot of confidence will get you much further than an amazing look and an average amount of confidence.
[–]need_more_lube 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
maybe you are broadcasting that "attractive" wavelength now that you feel more confident in your body.
Replace it with another word then.
[–]readonlyuser -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Here's someone very reputable disagreeing with you.
My own 2 cents? Attraction is a recognition of value. Congruence has value, but it's only a slice of the pie. Looks are absolutely a part of that pie. You believe that congruence is the only issue in play because it's all that you've been focusing on.
The fact is the 500 pound man you described will simply not be able to get many girls because it conflicts with those girls' core values and desires, i.e. a dealbreaker. The closer you are to Meatloaf's social value, charisma, status and talent, the more OK it is to look like him, but nobody in this subreddit is Meatloaf.
TL;DR I'm Meatloaf AMA.
Disagreement is always good.

I see two flaws with that idea, first, your personal idea of attractive may not be others idea of attractive, aka u may feel sexy and confident but others may not see u as such. Second, looks do matter, ridiculously photojenic guy is proof of this, he is physically attractive and women throw themselves legs first at him
