A risk/reward analysis shows that for men, the risks do not justify the rewards. A cost/benefit analysis shows that the cost of marriage for men does not justify the rewards.

[–]idontlastlng 97 points98 points99 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

obviously. sex is too costly. better wank it off over free porn

[–]Greeddeath 157 points158 points159 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

One of my Friend's, counted for joke, how much per sex his wife costs over cheap professional. Professional was cheaper.

[–]YesYesYesVeryGood 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

professionals are cheaper than having a girlfriend, and the focus is on what you want.

[–]idontlastlng 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

inarguably

[–]TitsAndWhiskey 80 points81 points82 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My ex wife was literally more expensive than hookers and blow combined. True story.

Alternatively, let’s say I didn’t want to be a degenerate dirtbag. Here’s how it breaks out:

Full-time nanny: $15/hr x 40 hrs/wk - $600 Prostitute: $600/hr x 1 hr/wk - $600 Housekeeper: $50/hr x 2 hr/week - $100 Tips/incidentals: $200

Total: $1500/wk or $6000/mo. $72k/yr

This is about what my ex wife’s discretionary spending was (yes, I had a very comfortable income at the time), but the above scenario provides far more benefit. Drop those numbers down to the actual work product she brought to the table, and it looks more like this:

Part-time nanny: $15/hr x 20 hrs/wk - $300 Prostitute: $400/hr x .07 hr/wk (avg) - $31 Housekeeper: $50/hr x .25 hr/week - $12.50 Tips/incidentals: $200

Total: $543.50/wk or $2174/mo. $26k/yr

Conclusion? Rent, don’t buy.

[–]ThinkitThroughPeople 40 points41 points42 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Warren Buffett always said. Buy if it goes up in value, rent/lease if it'll drop in value.

[–]BigDirtE 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If it Fs, Fs, or Fs, rent don’t buy.

[–]FourFsOfLife 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Kill_Frosty 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Because womens value is only sex?

[–]Greeddeath 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not neccesirly, as i said, it started as joke, but conclusions were quite serious.

Where's the data that men are driving the changes in marriage decisions? She didn't present it. She just asserted it. It's basically one big just so story where she uses a story to explain a phenomena, but doesn't use data to show that her story explains the data. It's a classic fallacy.

[–]Bourbonandcigars06 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes this is true.

I don't need an analysis to show me, I learned by observation, when young and many years ago observed struggles, disputes. entitlement and saw what happened to good buddies.

It was easy choice for me to never marry and my current older self is very appreciative of

The answer is easy, to win do not engage and don't play the game. Sure have friends and enjoy life but be very aware of environment, Choices and Consequences

[–]WolfGuy801 147 points148 points149 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Tired of being used until we're not useful anymore, or sooner if something better comes along. Not worth the loss of 1/2 my assets.

The thing is freedoms brought alot of pain than relief.

The system is such that, the free you're, the higher the chance of being taken advantage of by one of the sexes. Its a sad reality. Because of America conquering the world political sphere, they have enforced policies that support women rights to the point that the higher the rights the better benefits these developed and developing countries get.

It's so sad. I'm currently in Turkey, and I swear women here are so gorgeous and still have a role in the family and society. Unlike in America.

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's so sad. I'm currently in Turkey, and I swear women here are so gorgeous and still have a role in the family and society. Unlike in America.

Interestingly, my wife is addicted to turkish soaps, and if they are representative of the culture (idk, hollywood is not), this may be true.

But if something goes wrong, what then? Does the man always get the blame and sanctions?

[–]Mycroft033 120 points121 points122 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Y’know there’s a saying I heard the other day that’s really good.

“Never sign a contract with somebody that will benefit from breaking it.”

[–]HPUnicorn 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I love that saying.

The funny part is that while legally it is a contract, there is no other realm that I know of that would allow such a contract to exist.

[–]Futureman999 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the US at least laws are created by legislators who fund their reelection campaigns by donations from rich people. If there's one thing rich people hate, it's having their taxes go up to fund social programs for all the helpless broke Blanche Duboises out there with ex-husbands who escaped marriage with a too-small payout.

It doesn't matter how many of the six figure income medical doctors and dentists you've seen have been female, and that many of your college professors were six figure income women, senior corporate executives and government leaders, etc. It's in the interest of the wealthy to keep 1950s divorce laws on the books exactly as they are, or else more social programs for "temporarily employment-embarrassed" women.

Don't marry...or at least don't marry until you own a home in your name only. Then you owe her the appreciation that occurred during the marriage.

[–]Dwaynedibley24601 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I live in a community property state... so its 50% or nothing

[–]GivePuppiesBazookas -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This doesn't matter, most states are community property. If you get married anything in your name is half theirs.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's not true. In most states property owned prior to the marriage stays in the possession of the person who's name it's in. As far as a house goes, they go up in value over time. The amount they go up in value is profit seen to be earned by the couple so is community property.

I bought my house for 225K. When I married it was worth 300K. When I divorced it was worth 350K. I owed her 25K for her half of the appreciation. But she had a bad lawyer and didn't ask for the 25K so I never told her.

My niece is marrying a smart guy who bought the house 6 months prior to their marriage and he owns it in his name only. He's a smart man.

[–]Futureman999 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

he owns it in his name only. He's a smart man.

Probably can't live at the same address your whole life. What happens when he sells buys a house somewhere else during the marriage?

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I never expected him to pull this bullshit, I'm sure he has a plan. His wife to be is my niece. She has been educated about what he's doing but she still wants to marry him...late 30's...what can I do? If he let's her pay part of the mortgage and she can prove it, she may have a case to take half the house a lawyer relative tells us.

[–]DraganTehPro 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think anyone here is gonna help your niece take half of this guy's assets

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wise words 🥲

[–]throwaway3569387340 59 points60 points61 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My ex who was "sick" was actually hiding a narcotic habit from me.

In the divorce I got all the debts and she got all the assets plus $3k a month in spousal support. The reason? Because I made a good living and she needed support to make it through rehab so she could get a job. Figure out that fucked up logic.

Needless to say 3 years later she had blown through all the money that I had earned (nearly a half million total) on drugs and was still living off government support. I'll never marry again.

[–]Deadlift420 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shit like this terrifies me. I have only had shitty relationships and seen how women can be sometimes.

[–]ElegantDecline 47 points48 points49 points 4 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

ironically, gay men are embracing marriage with each other. what does that tell ya?

[–]Bundle_of_wood 79 points80 points81 points 4 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

I’ve said this for a while now, if sexuality was a choice, there would be a whole lot more gay men.

[–]Shitpostradamus 48 points49 points50 points 4 years ago* (28 children) | Copy Link

So much this. I enjoy being around men more than women (I think we all do). Men are stress free and genuine. They’re drama free and usually state their mind. They don’t play games. They’re just more enjoyable to be around.

The only reason I spend time with women is because I like boobs and vagina. If sexuality was a choice, I doubt many men would choose the hetero route

[+][deleted] -36 points-35 points-34 points 4 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

I wonder what it’s like for women to be pursued and used for sex by people who can barely tolerate their presence? The idea that we’re all getting houses out of the deal and our bills paid is becoming an anachronism now that women work.

Do these men make sure their partners orgasm? Please tell me women are getting anything in return from the men who see them as boobs and vagina attached to a person they can’t stand.

[–]hellraisinhardass 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Do these men make sure their partners orgasm?

Go on any feminist forum or any non-feminist forum and ask if women should be responsible for a man's orgasm and the answer will be a resounding 'No!'. Yet here you are insinuating that the reverse should be true. Shame on you.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Have you seen the comments about women here and you’re trying to shame me? For an uncontroversial opinion that men don’t care if hook ups orgasm?

Guys would complain too if their dick was getting zero attention during sex.

[–]hellraisinhardass 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

See? Once again, you are failing to take responsibility for YOUR actions and words, but you are more than willing to blame me (an individual) for everything bad that has ever happened against an entire group of people. This is exactly what is meant by victim mentality. You refuse to admit that YOU, as an individual, is responsible for your own actions, faults, shortcomings and failures, but you are more than happy to bear the cross of any injustice that has ever been committed against the larger group.

Here's some advice kid- if you ever want to get ahead in the world be critical of yourself first, be ruthless in your self judgment, admit your fuck ups, fix the ones you can, ask for help for the ones you can't fix on your own and ALWAYS assume the reason you're not winning is because you're not doing enough. The world is not against you, the world is just out for itself. Stop being a victim. You're going to have to shake off the memories of always winning at Monopoly, your parents cheated so you would win and feel good about yourself. They had good intentions but it was a disastrous strategy. STOP BEING THE VICTIM, no one cares, you don't look like a martyr and no one has the bandwidth to feel sorry for you in a world full of real injustices and real pain. STOP BEING A WHINY LITTLE TURD, no one likes that.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wtf?

[–]hellraisinhardass 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh, I'm sO sOrRy! Did I hurt your feelings? Go back to your troll group and get a hug and cry on someone's shoulder. No one here gives a shit about your feelings, just like the rest of the real world.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t hang out with women kvetching about whether they have to out in effort in sex.

Women are wrong when they think all they have to do is be there.

Women should know going in that a random dude isn’t going to provide her with what a lot of women need to feel pleasure. Trust intimacy, mind blowing cunnilingus. She has the choice to have the sex or not.

There’s no rule about how men are supposed to act during casual sex that he’s breaking.

I think I’m reacting to casual sex + thinking women are obnoxious creatures who provide a warm place to put it. Women are responsible for allowing this in their lives. Men are responsible for not being nice sometimes.

[–]fredditfascists 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For an uncontroversial opinion that men don’t care if hook ups orgasm?

Nobody should care if a hookup orgasms, hookups are hookups for a reason.

[–]StatisticianWorth500 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Those women should find something else to offer then. Most women offer no other value

[+][deleted] -32 points-31 points-30 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Because you don’t like them.

[–]TalosSquancher 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

If your entire use is being 'likeable' I'll just pet my dog and save thousands of dollars?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Yes I know dating is difficult for men, with money and effort, risk taking and assertiveness.

Women are allowed to be passive. That’s why women want to talk about tropes, like the princess who waits to be rescued.

So from that, can I suppose you mean women playing more active role in being loving? I’m probably guessing wrong.

But really my point is, if a man doesn’t like women at all leave them alone. Women who don’t like or respect men see them as resources to take. My uncle found a paper where his wife had written out how long she needed to stay in the marriage to get x amount of money.

That’s the using and being with someone you hate I’m talking about. It’s not ever nice.

[–]rustjelqing2 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Dating isn't more difficult it just involves a lot of jumping through hoops instead of just saying listen lady I want to blow my load balls deep in you. Being blunt is considered offensive, even if that's what end up happening anyway. Like, why did I have to waste so much time for this outcome?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Well how hyped would you be for that invitation if hormones and anatomy were reversed. She’d get off, roll over, light a cigarette and call you an Uber. Sounds fun doesn’t it?🤥.

Though some women can pick up a guy and have multiple orgasms so I don’t want to speak for womankind. Plus, sex is like pizza, even when it’s bad it’s good.

Men are interesting lol.

[–]tenchineuro 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women who don’t like or respect men see them as resources to take.

Women who like or love men still see them as resoures to take. They will have little to do with a man with no resources.

  • Jennifer Lopez says men under the age of 33 are 'really useless'

[–]Pozos1996 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Now that women work yet in most countries the manneill get fucked in a divorce.

Also, while I do i agree many men won't put much effort to make a woman orgasm I also can't help but point out that it's ridiculously easier to make a man orgasm than a woman. So, another point for man on man action I guess.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But, if she gets half, half of what she gets is hers because she contributed. At least it’s moving towards that.

Yeah, I’ll grant you that lol. I think that’s part of why women want relationship. Orgasm helps with conception and probably pair bonding.

[–]Frosty-Gate-8094 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This post is about men avoiding marriage...
If women dont like marriage, they are free to not opt for it. (Or go for gay marriages.)

Dont come to men's forum and promote marriage.. We clearly dont need it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Im responding to the person above me. Im not suggesting women marry anyone.

[–]Regenclan 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well lucky for you it can sort of be a choice. It is extremely obvious at this point that environment can play a big part in it. Kids today at least in the western world are being brought up and taught that homosexuality is no different and equal to heterosexuality. Homosexuality and bisexuality have literally exploded in numbers. I think the Kinsey scale has it right. People all fall somewhere on a line where a 1 is almost impossible to be gay and a 10 is almost impossible to be straight with everyone else falling somewhere in between

[–]ElegantDecline 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This is accurate, but you're getting into hot territory here...where mainstream politics disagrees with science.. can't really go there on reddit. admins on here dont like that.

If you look at the statistics for domestic violence, the incidents of abusive relationships goes up with the number of women involved.

Gay men have the lowest numbers, then hetero couples, then gay women the highest.

It's almost like women are the problem...

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That they think marriage is a benefit?

As to what happens when they divorce, idk. Is it the same as when a man and woman divorce?

Because who wants to cough up HALF their retirement savings or pension because their spouse got "bored"... 30 years of work and savings GONE! every man should get a vasectomy at 17, never marry.. and have kids only after a thoroughly and carefully constructed pre-natal contract has been drafted, signed, and filed with the courts.

[–]Adelb1[S] 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We need to change the laws. Why are men not gathering for their rights !

This is insane ! Women are telling me that the laws are also unfair for MEN!

It's time to march for awareness! It's the only way

[–]Astrum91 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'd have gotten a vasectomy if it wasn't classified as an irreversible procedure. It is often reversible, but not reliably enough to be classified as such.

I just wish there was some male birth control already.

That's the one I've been most optimistic about. Last I checked there wouldn't be much of an update until 2023. There was another one I can't recall the name of with a device that gets installed in the same location that has a switch on it, but it also wouldn't have any news until 2023.

I think it goes back to that saying that's something like "male birth control has been 5 years away for the last 20 years."

[–]fredditfascists 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's run into repeated opposition from Feminist groups, the same way that Paternity Testing - which is illegal in places like France without the mothers consent - has, add to that the lack of funding mens health issues usually get and it's quite a problem.

that's the stupidest quote I've ever heard, unless it's not what I think it means.

I don't plan to marry, but I mean.. a wife is also a best friend (at least she's supposed to be) so automatically you get offered the same things you get from having a best bro you can trust, now is it a good decision to be able to be completely open with your wife about everything and anything? I honestly don't know as I haven't had a wife, but with a best friend? hell yea it helps and it's nice having, It's more than enough if a friend is there to listen and be listened to so why we don't see it as the same with a wife?

[–]Mefic_vest 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I haven’t had a wife

Exhibit A: ignorance and/or inexperience. Likely both.

[–]capitan_cruiser 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

honestly I don't know if I ever want to have a relationship, sure I'll try if I find someone meaningful but at the moment all the women I meet especially my age (19) are just horny/looking for rich boyfriends that would take them to expensive places and a "journey", honestly I couldn't care right now about "journey's" I'm kind of in the middle of figuring out how am I going to be financially in the future, I'm in mandatory service too so my pay isn't even more than 400$ a months so no expensive "journey" coming out of me babe

plus the idea of hookups doesn't really pull me in, tried that once, I said no and got falsely accused (thankfully just to my friends who actually knew me and not the police)

EDIT- today was told by a girl that her friend in my base had breast surgery payed by her boyfriend (they both come from rich families so I kind of already understand how a 350$ wage soldier gets his hands on a 3,500$ breast enlargement surgery for his girl just like that for a gift)

Dude, this does not change with age. If anything, it gets worse.

[–]capitan_cruiser 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's a very single minded outlook on people, are there people like this? yea, sure there are but there are so many different types of couples that are not based on gifts worth so much money, I've seen many couples where the guy spends like 500$ a month on their girlfriends, basically work for dates, but I also seen different scenarios like my best friend who has a girlfriend almost Two years and he hasn't spent over 800$ the entire relationship, hell, maybe even less, they both pay for their own meals, they enjoy each other's company, the only time he actually pays for something is on her birthday or valentine's day, his girlfriend is not the gift type she just likes the guy and my best friend doesn't have a lot of money either, they are both SEPARATELY saving up for university and in the meanwhile go out on walks, looking for new places to hang out etc..

It just shows that the world isn't narrow when it comes to types of people which should be obvious to you guys, that is why I say I will only date if I see someone who I will find meaningful and not just looking to have a rich future.

A lot of this misandry going on in India is a direct result of population think tank influence.

India's government too had a list of depopulation goals, but they took the website down. luckily you can still find an archived copy: https://web.archive.org/web/20070713231807/http://populationcommission.nic.in/wg.htm

They throw them under the bus constantly. lack of healthcare, total poverty.. they DONT care. This was, is, and always will be an overpopulation interest. not a feminist one.

Those in charge do not actually give a flying fuck about women. They throw them under the bus constantly. lack of healthcare, total poverty.. they DONT care.

This is the part I'm having trouble with. Most of the resources of pretty much every non-Islamic nation on earth goes to supporting women and their needs. I'm not sure about resource allocation in Islamic governments, but the husband/father is responsible for taking care of the woman's needs.

[–]ElegantDecline 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

most resources goes to women *empowerment* for strategic reasons. NOT to actually -help- women beyond shifting them into working corporate and increasing their financial power.

Do politicians actually CARE about women? Look at Afghanistan.... countries are tripping over each other trying to recognize the new government and trying to become allies. Look at the million+ innocent Uyghur women sitting in prison camps... look at dubai and saudi arabia. Every country on earth right now is sucking those countries' dicks for the hope of making more money, and the fact that women dont have the same rights as men there doesn't slow them one bit.

If the politicians of the world actually gave a fuck about women, this wouldn't be going on. But it is. Which means it's ultimately not about caring for women. It's ultimately about population control, using feminism as nothing but a tool to meet the ends.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Allow? Preventable?

There are many factors at play here.

  • As they grow up boys see what happens to their fathers/relatives/friends/etc in a divorce. Many have decided that they want no part of that. The comments illustrate this quite nicely.
  • Hypergamy: For women marriage is a financial transaction and they want it to benefit them, as sexism in the school system has resulted in 2/3 of college students being women, a great many women can't find men they consider marriageable (who earn more than they do or have such a potential).
  • Feminism: Feminism has taught many women that men are evil and to be avoided at all costs.
  • According to OKCupid, Women Find 80% Of Men Unattractive.
  • A great many women demand that a man be 6' or taller to consider for a date, as the average height is 5' 9". this leave about 1/2 the men in a lurch. Women don't just want a man taller than they are.

There's more, but both men and women are avoiding marriage today. As a result marriage rates are the lowest since records were first kept.

And women don't have to marry a man to profit, they just have to have his child. Then the government will grant her most of the benefits of a divorce.

As an aside, many areas have dropped the period for common law marriages to a year or two. Which means that shacking up may be as dangerous for the man as a wedding.

I also imagine a bunch of bisexual men (and gay men that would've stayed closeted or even unknowing and married a woman a few decades ago maybe too) are looking at heterosexual marriage, going 'yikes' and opt for gay (or no) marriage instead since the playing field is more even there? Not sure tho

[–]YetAnotherCommenter 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a bi dude, I can assure you that many bi dudes find male/male relationships easier than male/female ones.

The stats actually show that bi dudes usually end up with other dudes for LTR situations. The popular interpretation of this state is that bi dudes are "really gay, and lying." I think the more accurate interpretation is that the net benefits of a relationship with a man outweigh those of a relationship with a woman (and this can also be confirmed by the fact that most bisexual women find it easier to date men than women).

[–]McFeely_Smackup 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Men are avoiding marriage because there's literally no benefit to them, and only liabilities.

It's just not a logical choice to make for a man.

Marriage is the only legally binding contract you can sign where you only find out your liabilities and obligation when the contract is broken. You'd never buy a car and sign a loan that says "we'll tell you in 10 years how much you owe", but it's literally what marriage means.

[–]tenchineuro -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Men are avoiding marriage because there's literally no benefit to them,

That's not quite true, many marriages still last for life.

The flips side is that something like 50% of marriages end in divorce, and as someone else posted, the liabilities almost certainly outweigh the benefits.

At 38 years old now and after 4 LTR's that each lasted 2-5 years I finally had a epiphany.....

None of them ever actually gave a shit about me at all. I was merely there to serve a purpose. For some it was just having a tall white guy boyfriend for others it was security/money and just a place to live.

I knew it all along. I would work 55 hours in a week come home exhausted....they never gave a shit that I was killing myself every day. It was always about them every conversation every argument.

Looking back its fuckin sad....I can honestly say the only thing I got out of each relationship was just getting laid absolutely no support what so ever otherwise in this thing called life. For those of you that think your alone and think a GF is the fix...... its not some of the loneliest times in my life is when I had a girlfriend living with me.

She broke with me 2 days later. I'm not joking. The coldness of it was brutal.

3rd reason doesn't really make sense. That would be a reason not to have kids, not a reason not to get married. While married fathers are definitely considered the second class parent in the courts, unmarried fathers get it even worse.

This reminds me of a conversation I had a somewhere around a decade ago. Back when gay marriage was the topic of the day. I said something like "look, I support gay rights. I think gay people should have equal rights to straight people. I just don't think the state should be involved in any marriage. We need to remove straight marriage, not add gay marriage."

This did not go over well. I was cast as a homophobe. Now a decade later, and having gone through a marriage and divorce myself, all I can think is: I was fucking right.

[–]Liberal_On_Guns 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Choose your business partner wisely

while this may sound great, it's extremely specious advice. Nobody marries a woman they think is crazy, vindictive, abusive, etc...EVERYONE thinks their partner is perfect.

You only get to find out if you made the wrong choice after it's too late. It's of very little use to say "well, you should have picked a better wife" after everything goes south.

I think this is a very dangerous statement. Not that you’re wrong, but it gives young men false hope. There is an incredibly low probability that a young man, in today’s world of social media that has ruined most women, could find someone that you describe. They exist sure, but they are rare, very rare. As an example, if a man is unemployed for more than 6 months 80% of the time that marriage ends in divorce. Yet this can happen to the most hard working and industrious among us. Shit happens. Recessions happen. Women have nearly endless opportunities for a better life with a simple divorce proceeding.

I agree that when a man gets married he BELIEVES he’s bringing on a partner, surely an equal partner. However this is a belief that may cost a man his marriage and children.

I wish I had been told that when you get married you’re bringing on a DEPENDENT, a liability, NOT a partner, NOT an equal. It’s this belief that cost me my marriage. You need to see her as a child that you must care for, not an equal that you hope would step up and help out in times of need.

Young men who are considering marriage need to understand that when they marry they are bringing on a dependent, an adult child, and need to understand that she will never respect you again if you treat her as an equal in the “stepping up”. Never lose “frame” as Rich Cooper would say.

I’m fortunate enough to have survived “divorce rape” and have equal custody and time with my children. But this was only after a nearly 3 year divorce, $102K in attorney fees, a $15k custody evaluation, etc. And even today I’m still fighting to keep my children in my life with equal time as my ex has moved 50 miles away with her newest boyfriend and wants the kids to be uprooted and come with her of course.

As a divorced man, it would be recklessly irresponsible of me to ever encourage my son to get married. I have stories, like most men who have been though a vicious divorce, that would make you sick.

I think this is a very dangerous statement. Not that you’re wrong, but it gives young men false hope. There is an incredibly low probability that a young man, in today’s world of social media that has ruined most women, could find someone that you describe.

This is true, according to many the best women are found in traditional countries in the provinces. But there is no guarantee here and she may become westernized, find about the power the law grants and take advantage of it.

I saw a newsclip where a german man had married a filipina and was living with her in the Philippines. One day he woke up and she was gone, so was all of his money and valuables. He was begging on the streets to feed his kids.

Locally, someone I know married a good woman he met at a Church. All was going well till she got a new friend, a feminist social worker. The result was a divorce of course and I have no idea what happened after that.

But even if you do marry a good woman, she can change. There is no safety here.

All of this 100% depends on who you marry.

What young men need is to have their own self-worth reinforced so that they don't settle for shit partners. If you and your wife decide that someone should stay home after you start having children, sure: whatever. If your wife doesn't want to work before you start having children: maybe not a reliable partner.

I didn't go through a divorce, but I've spent the past 13 years in and out of court for custody. I still encourage my son to date, and if he finds a gal that seems worth his while I'm not going to discourage him from getting married.

I know far more people that are happy in their marriages than people who aren't. If you pick your partner wisely the benefits do seem to outweigh the risk.

[–]Regenclan 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Maybe and I would say almost certainly you know a lot of people who are pretending to be happily married. You see people get divorced all the time out of nowhere. Men tend to keep their problems to themselves except for really close friends. That doesn't negate though stating that young men need to know their worth and see red flags as the truth that they are. I would say the mother is the biggest predicter of what a woman will end up being like. At least it has been in my experience.

[–]tenchineuro 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would have believed “it depends on who you marry” in my younger days . But do you think men get married to women who they think aren’t “the right one” or a “good woman who won’t leave me?” What man would marry a woman he thinks would divorce him? I never understood this idea, but I get the sentiment as it sounds good on paper.

I was 30 before I got married to my ex and I vetted her in ways most men would never consider. I was “100% sure” I picked the “right woman.”

But even the most “wholesome” and “religious “ women can be corrupted. There is simply no way to guarantee that the woman you marry will be the same woman in 5, 10, or 20 years. To believe so is foolish. Are you the same man you were 5, 10 or 20 years ago? Vows don’t mean shit when women are encouraged to wreck their own homes.

But I’m really torn on this issue to be honest. My greatest joy in life are my children. How do you best raise children? In a nuclear family with a woman who won’t leave you for greener pasture. See the problem here?

I think the only way to save the family is to bring back “fault” divorce. Don’t let people leave a marriage with children (no children no problem) without a justifiable reason. AZ actually has a higher tier of marriage that is similar to a “fault” divorce that forces the couple to do all sorts of things to save the marriage. Not a popular opinion I know, but a quick look at the history of divorce and family and it’s clear what has happened.

It’s not an easy solution.

If I had known I could be this happy as a single adult man I would have never been married to be honest. I would have just cohabitated. But I was brought up in a very religious home where you were taught that the only way to be happy and get to the “best” heaven was to get married. It was pounded into my head since I could remember. I really believed it. I was blue-pilled as hell and it was only after my divorce that my eyes were opened. What’s funny is that being red-pilled may have actually saved my marriage.

I teach my son that he doesn’t need to be married to be happy. I’ll support him if and when he decides to get married but he’s going to fully understand the severe consequences if and when a completely independent person with her own free will “changes” or “grows” as a person and decides she’s got more to gain elsewhere.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I would have just cohabitated.

Have you heard of 'common law marriage'?

[–]bmihlfeith 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My battle was custody, so married or not the custody battle would have been no different in the eyes of the law.

The AZ law is called a “Covenant Marriage”, just looked it up.

But I would have never made enough money to keep her from leaving, it was that simple. She refused to work a full time job, so she demanded I work 3 jobs (I had 2 and she said she was going to divorce me unless I got a third job so she could stay at home.)

I get it. If I were a woman and wanted a fancy life with nice cars and fancy bags it’s much easier to find a richer man than to stay with your husband who may never be able to get those things for you.

I’m afraid at this point our society is so far gone it will take decades of horror to get back to a healthy place…fourth turning an all…

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

My battle was custody, so married or not the custody battle would have been no different in the eyes of the law.

Disagree, unmarried fathers have no chance of custody most places, whereas fathers have a slim chance.

I’m afraid at this point our society is so far gone it will take decades of horror to get back to a healthy place…fourth turning an all…

That may not be possible, collapse is not unlikely.

EDIT: There seem to be some loopholes...

  • Common law marriages cannot be formed in the State of Arizona, regardless of how many years you live together. However, if you legally achieved common law marriage status in another state that recognizes such unions before moving to Arizona, Arizona will recognize you as legally married.

[–]bmihlfeith 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Custody laws vary state to state….I can promise you, by statute, in Arizona, if you are a “fit” parent, married or not, you have a very good chance of getting custody (Joint Legal Decision Making and equal parenting time). This is reinforced with substantial statutory support as well as plenty of case law. I have sat through hundreds of hearings for fathers, written hundreds of motions and other pleadings and read thousands of cases since 2104. I’m not talking out my ass.

I agree that as a father you are at an immediate disadvantage, even with AZ laws (mothers consider AZ to be “Father friendly”), in reality, in most cases the judges are fair and 50/50 “custody” has become the norm when you have two fit parents who can logistically have equal time (note the conditions.)

But every state is different so your state may in fact be how you say.

This is the distortion feminism paints as equality, the mother has 100% physical custody, and the father who has no part in his kids lives shares responsibility.

Because it's an outdated and useless social practice. Like literally you have no need to marry if it's only about relationship. There's nothing to profit from it to men while simultaneously they risk everything, from the real estate and money to the point of plain simple social status.

Fun fact, in Russian language word for "marriage" (брак) is similar to the word "failure" (брак). And we even have a saying "no good deal can be called marriage" (Хорошую вещь браком не назовут).

Here is a lovely list of reasons that explain why the men are avoiding marriage:

  1. Asocial introverts exist.

  2. There are men who don't want to deal with false sexual harassment allegations.

  3. Some men want to avoid getting divorced and having court systems have favoritism over wives.

  4. Love can fade and die because people's personalities can change.

  5. Because change happens, there are people who can become abusive verbally and non-verbally.

  6. Narcissists exist.

  7. Cynicism.

  8. Fear of getting married too soon.

  9. Unwillingness to waste money on divorce.

  10. Jobs that require employees/employers to be too busy for free time.

  11. Bachelors and bachelorettes who would rather have fun than commitment.

I saw friends get married, have their wives lose interest in sex, stop working and eventually divorce them, losing half of everything they owned or more.

Guys we need to frame this better. Men are not avoiding marriage. Women don't want marriage. They are not traditional. Men are simply responding to what women want. No woman wants to spend their entire life with one man, this is what women want, it has nothing to do with men. Women may think and say they want to spend their life with one man, but their actions tell a different story. We need to frame this as doing what women want not "men avoiding marriage," because it makes it seem like men are the ones making the decision. It was the women's decision to destroy traditional marriage, not men's.

https://www.pulse.ng/lifestyle/relationships-weddings/facts-stats-that-show-that-women-cheat-more-than-men/8ey0q67

“If you look at the studies into paternity, even conservativefigures show that between 8% and 15% of children haven't been fatheredby the man who thinks he's the biological parent,”

Paternity fraud is a human right abuse against both the Father and the Child.

Again if true love exist (it doesn't) why does it need government approval? Why can't you just cohabitate for 50 years with no risk? If your wife loves you and not your money why does she need to guarantee ownership of half your belongings?

This is ridiculous. That “article” doesn’t even link to a study.

Men wouldn’t cheat if they didn’t have to pay child support? What sense does that make? Wouldn’t it make more sense not to cheat so your marriage doesn’t fall apart?

I fail to see how any of this disproves the fact that my husband and I are madly in love and have been for the last 20 years, and will likely die within hours of each other. It may be rare, but it is absolutely real and absolutely possible, for anyone.

It literally does, it also included multiple experts.

No Men wouldn't cheat if they had a way to divorce their awful, cruel, abusive, demeaning wives without having their Home, Car, Dog, and Children stolen from them without recourse.

Oh I see now, you're a woman, and I'm threatening your retirement income.

You have yet to answer the question:If "true love" is real, and you REALLY love each other why do you need to involve the government? If government disappeared tomorrow would "true love" disappear with it?

I'm in a relationship with a woman right now and we get along great despite being very differ, in her culture they almost never marry and when they do it's the church, not the state. Does "true love" not exist without the government saying "If she leaves she gets to take everything you ever worked for"?

Sounds to me like you truly love money and a guaranteed income.

Your husband is probably begging to be free, how many times have you berated him, lied to him, yelled at him? If you truly think that's all zero, then your delusion alone is probably enough to make him beg for your absence.

Get this romantic bullshit out of here. Wealthy people marry for power. They don't do it for love.

[–]Octaroona 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe. Are you wealthy? How much money is wealthy? Is love just for the poor?

That was absolutely terrible

When there is a financial incentive for a woman to divorce and the man becomes a slave to his ex it’s no surprise men aren’t choosing marriage anymore. The government needs to stop being involved in people’s lives, it’s ruining the core of our society which is the family.

If I had a son coming of age, I would tell him to get his sperm frozen, get it stored where it can't be extradited, then get a vasectomy. And not marry.

Reasons men are avoiding marriage -

Money.

Alright, thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Marriage takes two people to engage in it. It costs a fucking lot of money, The rhetoric around marriage has been negative for the last few decades. This isn't a mens issue.

Ehh, aside from the divorce/alimony point, this video is pretty weak at supporting it's hypothesis. I feel the general cultural shift away from religious monogamy and marriage in anglophone North America is the primary reason away from decreasing marriage rates... not that "video games" and threat of incarceration is the reason.
