What do you think about women who view all men as dangerous threats?

Often whenever people deal with the worst of Group X for any extended period of time, they become really suspicious of anyone from Group X. It often never matters how Group X is determined, be it race, sex, religion, etc.

Having gone through some really abusive relationships with women in the past, it’s been hard for me to become trusting of a lot of women for a while. Over time though, you realize that not everyone in Group X is as awful as the people you’ve dealt with. Everyone gets there eventually. Be kind and understanding to people.

I think there’s a massive distinction to be made with many women that are uncomfortable with men vs the ones who antagonize a lot of us (the types who wear “Kill All Men” regalia un-ironically).

It's not wrong to take a stranger as a threat if you have legitimate reasons for thinking so. but it's completely wrong to think a person as threat which the in reality the person is not a threat just because on basis of gender is completely wrong. Oh boy... I might get proverbially ratio'd hard for this one...

So I can understand why a lot of women think this way... the narrative generally goes that throughout history, the greatest threat to a woman's health is men. In at least some cases, this has probably been true (see: Russia after legalizing domestic assault). Of course, this is obviously not going to be true throughout all of history, and is highly geographically dependent, and there are a thousand other factors, but regardless of how you feel about this statement, the narrative is that men are the greatest health risk to women. Of course, in modern society, this is far less true, but that doesn't mean that the narrative has changed yet in accordance with the new social norms.

As such, women (and men) will teach their daughters to be hypervigilant around men, and to be wary of any setting where they are alone with a man. These "lessons" are then propagated ad infinitum, and exist into adulthood.

It is important to note here, that the narrative has become divorced from reality in most of the country. As an anecdotal example, there is a member of my family who is the first to preach that she is afraid of men because they are "dangerous", but will then brag about how they had beaten up a number of men when they were in school (all of them were justified, of course [from her perspective]).

Point being: much like any conspiracy theory (think: vaccines & autism) the science and the narrative simply do not match up.

Of course, I don't particularly blame women for this stance or outlook. Of course it is disheartening, and offensive. I have never hit a woman in my life, even after I have been hit by one (middle school, and later by an ex-gf) and so the assumption that I am somehow dangerous is simultaneously hilarious and depressing; but I can't fault a woman for how she was raised or what she was taught as a child.

Of course, this is just a statement that there is a problem, and it might even sound like I am trying to imply that it is intractable, which I am not.

I don't know what the solution is, quite frankly, and I wouldn't necessarily know where to begin, other than trying to educate women who have this stance...

But this is a tricky thing. For one, trying to convince someone that your entire gender is not dangerous is a lot like trying to explain to a racist how race doesn't fundamentally affect your personality, except in this case, there actually are some fundamental neurochemical differences (testosterone vs. estrogen, etc.)

With that said, though, while I wouldn't blame a woman for this perspective, I also don't think that these women should blame a man if he ends up feeling as though women are shallow, or overly promiscuous, etc.

I am not saying that all women are shallow or promiscuous, but if you are allowed to stereotype an entire gender of people as "dangerous" then I don't see how you should be able to get upset when the same is done to you.

I am also not saying that men should hold this belief or stereotype women in this way. My point is simply this: if you stereotype all men as dangerous, then you are doing just that... you are stereotyping. As such, I am bound to see you as (at a minimum) uneducated, much in the same way that I would see someone who believes earthquakes are caused by exploding sulfur deposits (pre-tectonic theory belief). If you stereotype an entire gender as "dangerous" and you get offended when a man stereotypes women as s--ts and wh---s, then you are being "actively ignorant" as I would call it (embracing cognitive dissonance based on some sort of "principle" if you can call it that).

This is all to say that I find the belief that "all men are dangerous" to be kind of like an old religious belief. I don't blame you for the way you were raised and I am not going to try and convert you, but until shown otherwise, I am going to question your life-experience and (under certain circumstances) your ability to process new information which may or may not contradict your existing world-view.

As a woman, if another women tries to tell me all men are threats, I start asking why I should be afraid if her brother/father/uncle/nephew/cousin and so on. Those opinions are usually based on a few situations (at most) and they use that to say all men are bad. Hit them where it hurts to question them....go after their family and see if they truly believe it.

Works even better if they're married and you ask why they're married to someone who is such a threat.

I'm a teenage girl here. I live in a pretty known 'dodgy' town in the UK, so I can give some insight.

So, I think that judgement can be good and bad. And judgement (also can be in the form of bias, lots of types of isms or phobias etc) is something we all have, and fuels a lot of controversial topics today.

I've noticed myself being fearful of men, and I will admit I certainly have some misandrist bias within myself, even despite me supporting men's rights and actively behaving nothing like a true misandrist. I often see a man whilst I'm alone out walking, and I can't help but think sometimes, "is this man dangerous? Am I safe?". I will admit, this is certainly a sexist thought pattern, but it is also useful; what if this did happen to be a dangerous man? If I had already anticipated that and made a retreat, then I would be safer than if I were naive and chose to turn a blind eye as to not be sexist. In this situation, you could even argue that in some cases, bias can be good. I would also like to note that this bias does stem my own experience of real men who have been dangerous. For example, being chased by a much older man and being photographed whilst out alone were two occurances that have mishaped my perception of men.

But there is the bad side to this too. For example, favouring women over men will only distance us from equal rights. We do see many, many examples of mothers taking custody over their children rather than the fathers. We also see women being falsely believed over fake rape and assault claims. This all stems from an inner belief that women are innocent, and men are rapists. While statistics show that women are more likely to be the victims, and men are more likely to be the perpetrators, there is still the argument whether this is enough of an excuse to contain this sort of bias. Are we allowed to feel that we are unsafe around men in these situations, or is this unacceptable?

Nobody should fear all men, but I think it’s important to try to gain some perspective. Let’s start with the fact that: (on average/by and large/in the vast majority of cases) Men are stronger than women. Men have higher average heights and with that comes longer bones, larger muscles, and greater strength. Many people hate to hear this, but if you take the AVERAGE man and the AVERAGE woman and have them fight hand-to-hand or take part in another competition of raw strength, the man will win.

To the AVERAGE man this means that he can overpower ~75% of the population - basically all women and the bottom 50% of men. There still exists ~25% of the population, who the AVERAGE man can get his ass beat by, and he knows this. He knows to approach the biggest guy at the gym with respect or possibly give an angry man twice his size a wide berth. Would any sane man try to fight a guy who is 2 feet taller and 100 pounds heavier than him?

Flip this in the reverse. The AVERAGE female can overpower only weaker females. She’s stronger than maybe 25% of the population, but roughly 3 out of every 4 people in the world could KILL HER WITH THEIR BARE HANDS!!! And nearly ALL men have the physical capability of killing them or worse.

Nobody should fear an entire gender, but if I woke up tomorrow, and went from being in the strongest 75% of people to the weakest 25%, I would likely feel vulnerable in ways I had never considered. People who fear all men are delusional, but I think we as men should try to understand another perspective and realize our own strength.

I once met such a woman and I suppose you see them make a big deal outo of it more often on the internet as it feels safer to voice your opinions here.

She basically was very lonely and was very repressed sexually. So when she felt safe talking with me she lashed out about how all men are rapists and so on. At that point I said no that's not true, in fact I'll ask right now. Would you like to have sex? She said no and then I said that's fine. After a while I think she felt safe enough that she said she needed to and pleaded that I helped her.

I think women like this are mostly like her. She was incredibly flustered and blushed a lot. It was clear she had a lot of anxieties.

The simple fact is that 75 percent of violent crime is committed by men. If you are frequently in the company of a threat with those statistics it gets your guard up. You may also note that many women with a fear of men are victims of sexual assault. Hard to convince someone they're safe around men when they learned far too early in life that even the nicest men can be monsters. I feel badly for men who don't have violent tendencies and get judged as such by society, but not nearly as bad as I feel for women and children who are so often harmed by the epidemic of male violence.

In Contrapoints' video Men, I believe she says therein when quoting Warren Farrel from his book The Myth of Male Power that one one of men's greatest strengths but also one of the greatest weaknesses of men is being necessarily seen as strong, big, resilient, and strapping, totally willing and and able to take on the dog-eat-dog world; similarly, women's being seen as weak, meek, dainty, and in need of a superman to often or always swoop them from dangerous situations is also both a strength and a weakness for similar reasons.

Because I haven't watched this video of hers for awhile, I recommend you watch it yourselves, but she touches on how her experiences in her personal life have aided her in thinking along these lines and, I do believe, agreeing with Farrel in this respect.

Like a lot of her material, it is great and usually masterfully and very cogently argued.

Well when a woman hitting a man isn't considered a violent crime then you get a skewed perspective. Women hit men as much or more than men hit women. I've been in 3 serious relationships in my life. All 3 have hit me in anger. One of them kicked me with steel toe boots so badly I had bruises all over my body and I had to have pictures taken of the bruises so I would have proof in case she tried to say I was the violent one. I've never hit back. The only parent I had that beat me or hit me was my mom. My dad spanked me 2 times in my life. My mom would slap me in the face or beat me with a belt if I ever disrespected or argued with her. It's the same thing with rape. When the law states a woman can't rape a man then the statistics will say all rape is committed by men. I've technically been raped or sexually assaulted by all 3 women as well if the same definitions of coercion to make a person have sex were used. As a woman I don't see men as threats more as potential threats due to my own experiences with particular types of guys and the experiences of many other women which further reinforce that there are many other guys like that. "Guys like that" refer to the men who have extreme sexist views to the point they don't even acknowledge me as a person, which although it poses no danger to me it is very upsetting. But then there are also guys with that type mentality who do pose danger as they are often going to be the type to sexually harass or assault you. And you may be thinking that's still not fair but I'd rather not take the chance of potentially being sexually assaulted or just made uncomfortable in general. I'm not going to cut off every man in my life but I ask of you to understand why some women may be quite scared of men especially if her personal experiences are much worse than anything I've been through. I read somewhere that people learn how to trust in phases.

First, you are optimistic and naive. They trust everyone. That's the state of childhood. This is why we protect kids.

Generally next, we go through a period where we learn about some bad thing that's happened to someone else. We lose our ability to trust, but not because of personal experience. The person, usually a teenager, becomes jaded and cynical. It's understandable, but not earned through actual hardship.

Then, something actually bad happens. Sometimes as a result of refusing to trust when trust should have been given, but it doesn't have to be that. At this point often the person is thrown into a situation where they have no choice at all but to trust someone (they have been injured and have to trust a doctor, for instance).

Finally, they begin to grow: they have learned that trust is important and necessary, and they choose to trust selected people not because they are naive but because they are actually weary and have learned to be optimistic regardless of their fear. That's called courage.

The problem is that a lot of people in that cynical phase never leave it, but also they tend to speak like adults but still be fairly young. It's important to realize that their distrust of the world comes from their worldview that the world is perfect and pristine being shattered and now they don't understand how to make intelligent decisions about how to trust so they choose to not trust anyone at all. They will eventually be forced out of this mindset, or they will stay permanently cynical.

When I encounter someone like that, I tend to think of them as someone who has never really experienced any true hardship of their own and has always had everything taken care of for them. Even if they are of adult age, they are people who are still acting like children.

I can't think of anything to call such women other than bigots (or synonyms to that effect) I'd understand if she was personally victimised recently but letting bad experiences turn you against an entire demographic of people for life isn't acceptable.

In highschool I was bullied. The bully was black. I, now an adult, have no issues with people of any skin colour, but by the logic used by these bigots not only would it be "ok if I hated black" people, but "it's weird that I don't".

Bad experiences suck but bigotry isn't acceptable after like a week's grace period (varying based on severity but never longer than a month) of the experience.

Another problem is many of these women haven't actually had negative experiences with men worse than a rude comment (and most of the comments no worse than what these women have said about men) but go off events they saw in the news or heard about third/forth hand making men seem worse in their minds because of confirmation bias.

Bigotry is wrong. This is bigotry. This is wrong.

Generally they don't have these views without reason, I'm not saying that this completely justifies their apprehension and suspicion, but usually they have experienced trauma at the hands of some of the worst men that exist, often for extend periods of time. So on one hand I understand where they come from, and, to a certain extent I think its okay to feel that way in the wake of a traumatic experience, however after a while it becomes necessary to face men, and learn, that not all men are predatory and dangerous, as long as they change their views eventually.

You have to differentiate between a girl who holds that view because of child hood trauma, In one of the sub reddits in one of the countries in Latin America a girl was raped by her father and was eventually rescued, but when she was given a compliment about being a 'good girl' she would get into a psychotic episode because her father would tell her that she is a good girl during his rape.

It's better to be safe than sorry but think there is middle ground that most people would agree is fine. For example, I think it's ridiculous that woman claim they ghosted someone because they are affraid of his reaction if they rejected him. It's just in excuse in my opinion because ghosting someone is probably making them more pissed and if he didn't give you any indication that he is agressive, I wouldn't assume the worst. Or asking someone out in broad daylight. It's also fine. (as long as you are being respectful) But if you try talking to a woman in the middle of the night at a deserted bussstop, don't expect a polite answear. Rapist look for woman who won't put up a fight and they usually won't take the risk with a loud agressive woman.
