Not sure if there are any Taylor fans here but regardless of whether you are or not I am listening to her new version of this song with both delight and horror.

For those of you who don’t know, this is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. They dated years ago when Taylor was 20 and he was 29. Typical NVM, he broke her heart, didn’t show up to her birthday party and was an overall scrote. “All Too Well” talks about their relationship a bit but now with her re-releasing her old albums there’s a version that’s longer than the original with additional lyrics. Some that stand out to me:

“you said: If we had been closer in age maybe it would’ve been fine, and that made me want to die”

“The idea you had of me who was she?! A never needy ever lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you”

“You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes Sipping coffee like you're on a late night show But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come”

“but the punchline goes: I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age”

So after willingly and knowingly pursuing a girl who wasn’t even 21, breaking her heart, standing her up at her birthday party, and putting her through a bunch of sht (she has other songs that allegedly talk about how much of a *gem he was), HE told her SHE was the problem because she was too young and needy 🤡

Men really have the audacity. Just a friendly reminder that if an older guy is actively pursuing you it’s not cause you’re “mature” or “not like other girls” or whatever crap they’re saying nowadays. It’s because they know they can getaway with treating you badly and the second you react to that they’ll throw in your face how “immature and needy and emotional” you are.

I feel for young Taylor. I was once 20 and wide-eyed and naive. They’ll be charming, they’ll be handsome, they’ll seem HV, but this is what they really are. To the younger girls out there, please don’t get fooled.
