I am from England and not circumcised, as is the norm there. Now living in US and have two boys and two girls. The nurses time and time again wanted to remove them to get the circumcision done. Even though we were very clear it wasn’t to be done. We had to get close to threatening legal repercussions.

There is study’s saying it prevents infections

From the Canadian Paediatrics Society’s review of the medical literature:

“It has been estimated that 111 to 125 normal infant boys (for whom the risk of UTI is 1% to 2%) would need to be circumcised at birth to prevent one UTI.” And UTIs can easily be treated with antibiotics.

"The foreskin can become inflamed or infected (posthitis), often in association with the glans (balanoposthitis) in 1% to 4% of uncircumcised boys." This is not common and can easily be treated with an antifungal cream if it happens.

These stats are terrible, it's disingenuous for these to be called legitimate health benefits. And more importantly, they have a normal treatment or prevention method that is both more effective and less invasive.

The medical ethics requires medical necessity in order to intervene on someone else’s body. These stats do not present medical necessity. Not by a long shot.

I agree. I just recently had my own epiphany on the matter. When I see reports or videos of fgm in Africa and the Middle East, Im disgusted, and so are most people. It is absolutely abhorrent. There are activists working non stop to try to force society to deal with it as an issue. There are methods of restoring your foreskin manually, and there are scientific research projects to regenerate the foreskin exactly as it anatomically should be if it was never cut off in the first place. I'm circumcised, but none of my 3 sons are. The oldest is 22 now and no issues. I've always thought that it should be a personal choice. Parents should not be allowed to do purely cosmetic surgery on children. I happen to personally like the way it looks on me and I've never had any pleasure issues with sex, but I often wonder if I'm missing something.

I've heard that you can get surgery to restore the foreskin or stretch your skin. But they just give you the appearance, you can never get back the nerve endings that you lost.

Mother here. I had to do a lot of convincing and fight against family norms to keep my son intact. While perhaps physically not as damaging as FGM, circumcision is still genital mutilation on someone who cannot consent. My flawless logic won out and if my son wants it done at some point when he’s 18 or older I’ll pay for the best surgeon we can find.

I hope someday the practice will be banned (along with puberty blockers and trans surgeries on minors)

It doesn't prevent infections, you just need to clean your penis properly. When you are uncircumcised your parents teach you how to retract it and clean under there. I don't think those studies are likely flaws, IMO, and even if true we aren't talking about significant risk here.

Also the surgery to remove it puts you at risk for an infection, and in many cases loss of part of all of the penis

I think there are some cases where the skin fuses to the penis, and people get their foreskin removed in adulthood. But there is no need to do so as a baby. This happened to my friend but he was never taught that he had foreskin, and that he could retract the skin to clean it. So one day a girl was giving him an hj and it just kind of tore up.

A few things: Your parents were likely misinformed. Don't hold anger towards them for this one decision.

The internet and reddit is the only reason movements like intactivism exists because, men don't like to cry about the fact they have a mutilated penis.

There are 5types of circimcised men: 1) those that are oblivious that they were harmed 2) those that know they were harmed but deny it 3) those that realize they were harmed and are angry. 4) those who were circimcised as an adult to medical reasons, these men either regret the loss of feeling or embrace the fact they can have sex without pain. 5) those who have an erotic fixation on Circumcision and have it done as an adult for ascetic reasons. These people are usually satisfied because the satisfaction counters the loss of sensation.

So where do you go from here?

1) you start restoring your foreskin. This will allow you to get most (but but not all) what was taken from you back. This is a long process.

2) Rather than letting your knowledge and anger become toxic, use it to educate others in order to deminish the number of infant circumcisions. Also, help people with medical conditions recognize they have non surgical options they can try before commiting to a circumcision.

I'd be careful with that. A lot of people get their children circumcised because of tradition and really not knowing any better. It's not really an excuse per say but I don't think they are doing it out of malice or to intentionally cause harm (even though they are definitely causing it unintentionally).

I had to get circumcised at 18. Tbh i’m glad i did, sex is much more comfortable. I’m my country it’s unusual to be circumcised, im gay and most men i’ve been with are not. No one bats and eye tbh.

OP, circumcision does not prevent masturbation. I doubt it drastically reduces pleasure. It also prevents mishaps with the foreskin, and makes hygiene somewhat easier.

It does reduce the risk of STI's somewhat. I'm willing to bet that using a condom will reduce pleasure more than circumcision will.

I think it's up to the parents whether they get their boys snipped. I wouldn't make it mandatory or ban it. I don't see it as something good or bad.

I think I was circumcised when I went in for a surgery before I hit my teenage years, I busted a blood vessel on a bike and was peeing blood. It's never really bothered me after the initial healing process but that process was a bitch
