Why is circumcision in the U.S so popular? I'm in the UK and don't think any of my friends were. I asked my partner and she said she thinks circumsised looks weird and hasn't seen any IRL. It's like the same arguments are being used the opposite way but ultimately one culture is potentially doing harm whereas the other is not. I recently had a baby - we didn’t know the gender until she was born. Having conversations about not wanting to circumcise our potential son was met with weird backlash. The other arguments we got were: 1. It’s dirty and disgusting (an uncircumsized penis). 2. Thats it’s not what his father looks like. How are you going to explain that? 3. No one is going to want to date him.

People still resisted after we told them: 1. It’s literally genital mutilation. 2. It has no health benefits outside areas with running water and even then the protection is minimal. 3. If ‘hypothetical baby boy’ wants to be circumcised he can choose to be when he is older.

As a circumcised guy I don’t support it. It’s a curse to me and even my psychologist doesn’t understand. Sex can actually be painful to me. Nothing worse than having a girl to down on you and then you're instantly in pain because of over exposure (The head). I know that how women feel about how circumcision looks isn't the point here. The point is the gruesome mutilation of boys' genitals without their consent and the disgusting societal acceptance of it. That being said, the preference is so far from ubiquitously pro circumcision. To all the people without circumcisions facing shame for how their dick looks, that's not okay and I think women say that shit because they've heard others say it or because they saw ten circumcised penises before their first uncircumcised one and believed it to be weird because of that.

I have a massive preference for uncircumcised dicks. It looks and feels more natural. It's by no means a deal breaker to have it either way, men are not their dicks. But for some people, the foreskin is a beautiful part of their partner's body just as worthy of celebrating as nice hair or gorgeous facial structure. It's not something all women are grossed out by, indeed it's something some women get aroused by. I want it to be a choice for everyone to decide how they feel about their own foreskin and stop worrying about everyone else's view, but men don't get that right in this country. I can't understand degrading the need for men's rights when men's bodily autonomy is systematically disregarded at birth.

A lot of current religious practice today, like forbidden foods or circumcision, come from a time very long ago when we did not have antibiotics or the medical knowledge we have today.

So, imagine a time when people didn't bathe, nor did we understand disease or even knew about micro-organisms. I don't actually know the original idea of circumcision, but it probably made some sense back then in regards to avoiding sexually transmitted disease, or just genital cleanliness.

Obviously, now, medical technology and hygiene practices nullify any argument for circumcising a child. If the argument is about aesthetic, than that choice can be made by that child when they are an adult.
