My ex wife fell for a guy on social media that love bombed her. I was real with her about life after over 25 years together. She threw away the marriage for a fantasy relationship that the guy ultimately backed out of to stay with his wife.

She tried saying we grew apart but then tried to get me to reconcile and reconsider divorce (I asked for divorce). I said no and stuck to my pride that I was a good person.

Guys, it is because a lot of women marry men that are good providers, hard workers and good human beings to have children with but not because they truly want to be with those men. So after the children are gone, there is no reason for them to be with you. That is why you never have to let yourself go or make her the center of your world

But from the outside, “we grew apart” usually isn’t casual or impulsive — it’s often years of unmet needs, incompatibility, resentment, or feeling unheard. People don’t typically end marriages (especially with kids involved) over something small.

Marriage is a covenant, yes — but it’s also a lived reality. If the relationship becomes unhealthy, stagnant, or deeply unhappy, some people decide that staying is more damaging than leaving.

It’s easy to see it as people giving up. It’s harder to see the private context behind those decisions.

Strong reactions usually mean the topic touches something personal.

Not to be that guy but subreddits are rather self-serving. I believe some women might have the same opinion about this subreddit. And also not to be that guy, but sometimes people do grow apart. Divorce is hard on most people that go through it.

Exactly this. "Growing apart" is not a sufficient reason for divorce; it is not the same as "irreconcilable differences".

This is the reason my STBEW has used for divorce, but we don't have any differences that can't be reconciled; the only limiting factor is her willingness to commit to making the changes we need to grow closer together again (I was willing to, and indeed did, make such a commitment and she was not willing to match it).

The fact she can put in for a "no fault" divorce claiming "irreconcilable differences" and I have no legal right to object, to say "well actually there's nothing that can't be reconciled so I disagree" really sucks. Because in this case there very clearly is one of us at fault and it's her; I was committed to making our marriage work and she wasn't, therefore it's her fault, it's that simple.

Go watch an interview with James Sexton the famous Divorce Lawyer. He categorically says people need to wake up - marriage is not a romantic comedy, it’s moments of glory and celebration, all the way down to terrible moments with a lot of work. I think modern women don’t grasp it.

Right now it seems guys respond to guys with ,"sorry to hear that" and girls respond to girls with "congrats, you go girl.". Almost like divorce is a badge of honor for women.

That said, it's fine for each sex to offer support as needed. Nobody wins. It's no competition. Don't worry about how women are dealing with it and just focus on yourself.

It goes both ways though? Men can leave their wives for whatever reasons? I know because I left my wife. It went far beyond “we grew apart” but that could simply be a polite way of saying it so I don’t have to delve into the details.

Also, why do you care why others divorce? It’s one thing to come asking for support and feeling down about your situation, but to blame it all on social media is a very cold take.

The “crabs in a bucket” mentality. Bitter divorcees encouraging other women to blow up their own marriages chasing after their feelings. Convinced that even though she has Mr. 90% solution she needs to destroy it all in the hunt for the mythical unicorn Mr. 100%. Then they get back in the dating market and complain that the only guys they can find are 60%.
