There was a comment threat on another OP that prompted this OP, which has been percolating for a while. Many men say that the above is all women need to do in order to lock down and keep a man. (Along with sex, which is outside the purview of this OP.) It is the easiest thing in the world, they state; men are simple creatures and really don't want anything from a woman except that she be physically appealing, sexually available (again, outside the purview), and "pleasant."

There is a lot of baggage wrapped up in the words "nice" and "pleasant." It seems that many times, what is meant by "be pleasant" is actually "make things pleasant for me," which is a considerably bigger and more complicated ask. As I noted in the linked comment thread, men require far more tending than they seem to think they do. It is very easy for women to "be pleasant," if that is literally all that is required of them, but that is not all that is required of them.

Men: What, specifically, do you mean by "be pleasant?" How do you expect this directive to manifest in your LTR or marriage?

Women: In your relationships, how have you been expected to "be pleasant?"

NB: I don't care if men are expected to do thing in relationships, too. Nobody is disputing that. This OP is about men's expectations of women in marriages and LTRs, not about what men have to do for women in those relationships.
