It's been said that men are only interested in being fathers when they're sleeping with the mother of the children. Judging by this thread, they're 100% right. A LOT of men on PPD do not think they bear any responsibility for birth control or for a child they fathered when they are not interested in being with or marrying the mother. Being responsible enough to prevent pregnancy in the first place “isn’t important.” A few literally said it is unfair that men "have to pay for a choice they had nothing to do with." Really? You had nothing to do with it? “Consent to sex is not consent to reproduction.” Seriously??

Ironically these are the same men who are angry that family courts show bias towards mothers and assume them to be better parents. But why wouldn’t they? You are clearly demonstrating that your interest in a child you fathered is directly proportional to whether or not you want to keep fucking their mother. That you have no qualms about abandoning a child you did nothing to prevent conceiving. The men of the manosphere really don’t seem to grasp how they are their own worst enemies.

This is not a post about allowing men to opt out financially when they didn’t want the kid. IRL millions of men are doing this but that’s not the point here. It’s also not a debate about why men can’t force a woman to abort or keep a child. And it is definitely not a shit on single mothers fest.

What I want to know is why so many men’s interest in children seems directly proportional to the sex they’re getting from the children’s mother. Is this is why a man dating a single mother will act as a father to her children by another man and even adopt them after marriage, while simultaneously having no contact with and not supporting his biological children?

All I can figure, if men of PPD are to be believed, is that men do not view being a parent in the same way women do. Parenting for men is a choice, for women it's a responsibility. When the union breaks up, women raise the kids. Only 8% of single parent households are headed by men. Men do not see being a parent as a lifetime commitment, and women do. When the relationship doesn’t work out, men are less and less interested in investing time and money in their children. And if the men of PPD are right about this, it’s only fair that society would favor women in reproductive rights and custody because it’s women who can be counted on to stay and raise the kid.
