Yep - average age gap for married couples is around 3 years. Women tend to date men 2 to 4 years above them, not 20 years.

It's true though that 30-40 is a period where the general populace starts falling apart without maintenance. If you can't control your diet, if you don't lift, if you don't have a sport, if you don't sleep, if you abuse drugs, if you're in the sun too much, if you have lots of stress--this is the age where abuse shows up on your body. In your 20s abuse doesn't show so unforgivingly, but 30s-40s and beyond the damage starts accruing visibly. Put another way, in your 20s you look young no matter your lifestyle. 30s-40s you look exactly like whatever your lifestyle is and has been. For most people it's not good, for a few it's great.

The average person who wasn't taking care of himself in his 20s, or only half-heartedly, is doing the same in his 30-40s or lets themselves go even more. They go to shit. So I'd agree that for this behavioral reason many 30-40s males look like schlubs. But the dudes maintaining themselves daily like one is supposed to--they look great and have no problems attracting younger women.

Unscientific but in my experience about a third of 20-something women won't date a 30+ simply on principle no matter how he looks (OP seems to be in this group). A third are on the fence or think 30+ isn't attractive until a hot one is right in front of them, or they see hot 30-40+ males but process them as being younger. Another third actively fetishizes and prefers daddy, seeing 20-something men as still boys (which many are). Yes, there's some social pressure not to date "creepy older men" so the girls who dig daddy don't always express this openly. But when you're one of the daddies she chooses, you know. So the reality is nuanced. Approx the top 15% of available 30s-40s males who actually maintain themselves can do well with about 2/3 of 20-something women. These guys aren't monopolizing that entire pool of women, but they can do well in that pool.

My percentages might be inexact but that's roughly the picture I see out there. A well-maintained man in his 30-40s looks competitive with most guys in their 20s, and if he's been accomplishing shit, has confidence and worldiness that blows 20 something dudes out of the water. The average man will neither maintain himself nor accomplish much, so on average 30+ is a decline for most men, and women don't prefer these. But with regards to the top 10-15% of dudes who are killing it in their 30s-40, they are not in decline, but rather enjoying the peak of their attractiveness in life.

My husband is 17 years older than me and I was 23 when we decided to date. He was homeless at the time living in a motel room (long story). We've been married 8 years. Why? We like each other, we have very similar moral values, our views on children are similar, etc.

It's not a normal situation by any means, but it definitely happens for reasons other than "sugar daddy".

18-24 year olds aren't doing it as a majority or even sizable minority but it's still a thing that happens consistently. It's just those guys aren't just the top 20% of their age bracket but 10% or higher.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; young women like older men because of biology.

During hunter and gatherer days men who lived to be middle aged lived that long because they were strong and intelligent. Sure now days everyone with a pulse lives to be middle aged, but the lizard brain part of women is still there. An older man on an instinctual tells a woman that he is strong and is capable of protecting her and her offspring.

You're rolling your eyes probably, but it's the same principle as to why men like young women with an hourglass figure and big tits; it signals to a man that she is capable of birthing healthy offspring and has the ability to feed his offspring with said big tits.

I've seen tons of examples of very young women (like under 21) willingly sleeping with 35-55 year old men out of straight lust. It's true young women will fuck old men out of attraction. Ron Placone (a leftie YouTuber) is 35 and really handsome with a good personality, full head of hair and doesn't seem to have any wrinkles. That's what a modern 35 should look like.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm 32 myself lol but if a guy is all busted looking when he's that young it's because he treats his body like shit, is a crackhead, or got cursed with horrible genes. Modern men take care of our skin and eat healthier, don't smoke etc.

I think more of these age gap relationships exist than we realize (a little less than in the past but still) and several people I know are, it's just not really evident unless the dude visibly LOOKS way older and haggard

When I was 21, I had a professor who was extremely handsome. I think he mentioned once that he was 43 years old. He had a full head of hair, worked out regularly, and was extremely smart. However, he was so full of himself. I’m sure he bedded younger and older women alike. I was physically attracted to him, but I didn’t like his personality at all.
