My brother in law is a family law attorney, he writes prenuptial agreements every day.

he told me that it's a lot more art than it is science, because you can't just say "Wife gets nothing", if you did it's pretty much guaranteed to be thrown out by the judge as an unconscionable agreement. So he has to try to guess what some unknown judge, some time in the future, will accept as the bare minimum transfer of wealth.

it's just crazy that you can have two adults, in perfect agreement, sign a contract and then years later, it's thrown out worthless because one of them changed their mind. No other contracts work that way. it makes marriage a really poor choice for anyone with assets to protect.

I recently heard that women make up the majority of workers these days. 50.1% of workers are female or some similar number. I also read that women make up 40% of main bread winner's in families.

Then why do only women receive alimony and mainly men pay child support?

My cousin dated a girl who wanted to have sex right away. A couple weeks later she claims she's pregnant. My cousin, being an honorable man, said he'd marry her. They got married and it turned out she'd lied about being pregnant. But by the time he learned this she really was pregnant. He tried to make it work for the sake of their son, but she was just a terrible person. And of course she got custody when they finally did divorce. She treated that sweet little boy like a servant. My cousin did his best to be a good father from afar and did eventually get custody. Thankfully he met a wonderful woman and married her. He adopted her kids and she adopted his son. Many years later they're still madly in love and are doing really well in life. But if I ever see my cousin's ex again it will take everything in me to act like a lady and not punch her in the face.

Tbh marriage is contract written to be life long ("till death do us part"), and any people who marry and make a poor judgement of character, or kill their marriage either by cheating, driving the household into debt, or being abusive deserve whatever comes with a divorce. Like really unless kids are involved split the assets 50/50 and move on. Then again most divorces are settled outside of court meaning both people agreed to the terms.

Marriage is just a contract started by the church in medieval time to control the population, and keep people together long enough to raise kids. Dont like what happens in a divorce, then dont get married, dont have kids, or if you want to be or are married, dont destroy your relationship, actively work on it.

If you distrust the person your about to make a life long commitment to then dont make that commitment. Its simple.
