Hello and welcome to /r/MensRights. If you are not a subscriber, please take a moment to understand what you are seeing.

This subreddit is about the issues faced by men in our society.

We welcome healthy debate and you won't be banned merely for disagreement. It is common here to reject feminist ideology, but that doesn't mean we hate women or oppose equal rights. Rather, we seek to expand those equal rights to include men.

These are some of the best discussions we've had. There is also a documentary made by a feminist who investigated our movement. If you want to know more about the issues we are concerned with, try these books: The War Against Boys by Christina Hoff Sommers or The Myth of Male Power by Warren Farrell.

Thank you for being open minded.

I have specifically in my life heard women complain about anal sex, vice are talking about two seperate issues and they know it. A man is never going to understand what it's like to have a vagina the same way feminists are never going to understand why men feel the need to spread their legs when they're sitting down.

This is biology for fuck's sake and it's the most basic biology ever.

I love that there's a hidden comment below you from a user named "PM_meyour_buttcrack". Feels like a "connoisseur" got offended.

[–]billymyson 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just want those kind of people to not exist.

[–]dillGherkin 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man-spreading is the biggest non-issue to date, I swear. There are feminists that understand that men have men parts that make squeezing your legs together a bad idea. But they're not the ones screaming at the top of their lungs that they'll always be the victim of the mean men who don't repent their patriarchy privilege, and they get crowed out and called patriarchal-brainwashed for pointing out how un-empowering it is to be told to be scared of men who will always default to rape and abuse instead of expecting basic respect in return for giving it.

[–]untildeath 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The second the anus derives the same pleasures as a vagina with stimulation, count me in. Until that day, I'll take no penetration.

[–]Pepper-Fox[🍰] 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, we do get prostates. That can be pretty great.

[–]SilentKiller96 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"So, have you given your child the birds and the bees talk yet?"

"No, that would be sexist, homophobic and bigoted!"

P.S. don't vaccinate. Science is bad for you.

FFS, everybody has been discussing a picture of a heading since OP didn't do us the courtesy of providing a link to the article. Maybe people could read it, we might get a more interesting discussion.

I dont see that archived

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

You can enter the link at your favourite archive site to find out whether it is already archived and on which dates, which can be handy for things that change like IMDB voting stats.

If it is not already archived you can paste in the link and create one.

Watch out for extra junk attached to the end of the basic URL e.g. to track where you came from. A "?" character is a sign of extra stuff. Clicking the title of the article from inside the article will usually remove the extra junk.

I use archive.is, have not tried any others.

why men feel the need to spread their legs when they're sitting down

I don't? And neither do most men I know?

Everyone likes to relax, men or women. That's not a "need" it's just, duh. Some people are raised to be assholes and not think about how they are affecting others, and so they don't make the tiny effort of keeping their body limited to their seat and the space in front of it. If that's you, stop pretending you do it because you're a man, and acknowledge that you're just being an inconsiderate douche.

I’m sorry to hear that you have balls the size of a grain of sand.

[–]enstrut 68 points69 points70 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Referencing the fact that we have balls, you might not, and that we need to keep our legs spread more in order not to crush them. Women usually take this as being rude like you described but what they fail to understand is it is a matter of comfort and biology.

[+]realvmouse -71 points-70 points-69 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You need to spread your legs the way women need the toilet seat down: you've taken an absurd stance and rationalized it.

You can keep your legs in your in damn space workout crushing your own balls. Jesus Christ what a bunch of babies.

[–]HeForeverBleeds 371 points372 points373 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

It's not as if all women take it in the ass at some point in their lives in the first place--unless he's saying that every woman should now have to be fucked in the ass, too

And he's really saying that taking it in the ass is "what it means to be a woman"? Where does that leave men who do enjoy it, and women who don't?

I might as well say "every infant girl should have her genitals cut, to better understand what it's like to be a male in this society"

[–]Crusader_1096 70 points71 points72 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And he's really saying that taking it in the ass is "what it means to be a woman"?

Isn't this a sexist/homophobic trope dating back to Ancient Greece and beyond? That's not very progressive of the author.

[–]SDSunDiego 46 points47 points48 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Is this the same Vice company that had their leaders accused of sexual assault?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Probably as revenge for those women not wanting to fuck them in the ass!

[+]realvmouse -15 points-14 points-13 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, it is that Vice, quoting Tom Ford being interviewed in GQ. Vice just asked people what they thought about the GQ interview, and shared their responses, most of which were highly critical of it.

Oh, you only read the headline and drew all your conclusions from it? Shocker.

[–]enstrut 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The headline is ridiculous, just like the original article. Vice is perpetuating the ridiculousness by reaching more people. I'm sure there are more pressing matters at hand. Get off your fucking high horse.

[–]w1g2 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And he's really saying that taking it in the ass is "what it means to be a woman"? Where does that leave men who do enjoy it, and women who don't?

I think it's supposed to be about the act of being penetrated by someone else, not about anal, but that is the only option for men to be penetrated by someone else.

But it's all once again a scare tactic. Women have to be penetrated in order to have sex, don't you know how vulnerable that makes them? Well men have their genitalia outside of their body all of the time, and it obviously makes them vulnerable because of the frequency of getting kicked between the legs as well as women cutting off their partner's dicks while they are sleeping. Any of that could happen during a sexual encounter too, yo.

Strange how feminism purports itself to be about empowering women yet all it talks about lately is how scary men are to women, how absolutely everything makes them afraid, and they're just so helpless!

[–]AndrewWaldron 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Making women afraid sells clicks.

[–]MelissaClick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, it isn't.

[–]w1g2 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]JebberJabber -14 points-13 points-12 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

"Straight, sexually active woman who enjoys penetration" was implied. And of course they don't understand what it is like to be a straight sexually active woman who enjoys penetration, if they have not had that experience.

[–]BlondAnorexicSkank 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They're just tired of stupid dishonest thinkpieces about why whatever they are doing in their lives is wrong and immoral. Besides that I don't know a single sub that doesn't go after the low hanging fruit.

But I see what you mean. Depressing though. I mean, male fragility does not exist but if it did this sub would have a good fraction of the world's supply. It is hard to get a discussion on anything except how feminism has ruined the world.

[+]JebberJabber -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm interested to see how much effort has gone into avoiding the question by thinking up different objections to it, rather than engaging with it.

Most of the answers could be rephrased as "I don't know enough to answer this because I lack the experience of the guy I am responding to and I have not even read the article, but here is why my lack of experience and ignorance of the article does not matter".

[–]Coden_Ame 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Um, they weren't responding to the article title (what you're calling "the question") but rather to the flaws in Tom Ford's reasoning. Most of the people interviewed in the article also didn't answer "the question", not because they were avoiding it but because they were instead giving their opinions about the unusual philosophy that the question stems from.

Same. She went deeper than we agreed upon, but wasn't a bad experience. It just felt like I was pooping...which isn't a terribly sexy feeling for me, so not a general fan of that kind of stuff. Though I keep hearing the prostate orgasm is amazing, so I might revisit it someday.

[–]AccidentallyBorn 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Glad I'm not the only one with this experience. I actually let my gf penetrate me with a small toy, out of curiosity and trust more than any particular desire. I'd read all over the web that it feels "amazing" and you have a super intense "prostate orgasm".

Nope... It literally just felt like I was taking a massive, perpetual shit. It felt "good" in the same way that dropping a huge log feels "good." Wasn't awful or anything, but I have no idea how anyone could enjoy, let alone orgasm from it.

Not in the slightest bit sexually arousing. On the balances of awkwardness, lube expenses and having to thoroughly clean one's rectal cavity beforehand: 0/10 would not recommend.

[–]salbris 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It happened to me once without “permission” in the heat of the moment. I said “No. I’m not sure I’m cool with that but it’s all good let’s keep this party rolling.” I mean, to a feminist I was raped but I knew she was a freak. That’s why I went for her lol if you’re not open enough with a person to say what you want then you shouldn’t be rubbing their genitals* with yours.

[–]mansausage 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Haha, I had actually brought it up a little earlier with that girl, because ever since getting rid of my prude ex, I have had my phases where I liked to experiment with girls from dating apps.

[–]William__F0ster 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Tom Ford, man of many fashion and film-related endeavours, has posited the idea that all men should be sexually penetrated at least once in their lives. "I think it would help them understand women," he told GQ, because "it's such a vulnerable position to be in, and it's such a passive position to be in. And there's such an invasion, in a way, that even if it's consensual, it's just very personal."

But is being penetrated at least once in your life a defining part of the female experience? And would being "invaded" really help men understand what it means to be a woman?

To find out I went and asked a load of men in the street for their views on Ford's grand plan ...

Isn't Ford a homosexual? Who he sleeps with is his business but what makes him an expert on what it's like to be a woman?

[–]William__F0ster 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Isn't Ford a homosexual?

I had to Google him as I'd never heard of him, but if he is then perhaps that's what gave him the notion in the first place.

Who he sleeps with is his business but what makes him an expert on what it's like to be a woman?

I assume that's what the journo meant when she wrote:

But is being penetrated at least once in your life a defining part of the female experience? And would being "invaded" really help men understand what it means to be a woman?

[–]damac_phone 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"I think it would help them understand women," he told GQ, because "it's such a vulnerable position to be in, and it's such a passive position to be in.

I guess this guy doesn't know what a power bottom is.

[–]JayPx4 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Normally he just lays there.

[–]hashtagwindbag 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How can you generate all the power if you're just laying there?

[–]w1g2 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or that women can be on top and even in other positions be the one generating motion rather than just receiving it.

[–]Lrellok 71 points72 points73 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Should every women be forced to spend 18 years supporting a non working partner?

[–]HotHotFingers 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You don't HAVE to support a non-working partner, but it's, like, the implication..

[–]Excelcior47 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

He said 18 years, he meant child support

[–]HotHotFingers -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Supporting the child is a legal obligation, supporting the partner is not necessarily.

[–]Excelcior47 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Alright, then why don't women have to pay child support?

[–]HotHotFingers 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In many civilised countries, the primary carer gets payments from the other parent.

[–]Excelcior47 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you're not talking about child support we can debate the need for alimony.

If you are talking about child support, you cant debate it without talking about the disparity between child custody distribution.

If child custody is 50:50 then there shouldn't be any need for child support. But despite being an equal carers the man is forced by the court to pay the woman.

Now this assumes woman wants to take care of the child. If she dosent the man can get full custody and still pay the woman for no apparent reason.

Note that in none of these cases does the man have the upper hand and in all of them the man has to pay the woman.

[–]Elvick 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sweet summer child. You think all that child support payment is for the child's NEEDS?

Women [and the few men who get it] aren't even required to prove where the money is being spent.

Child Support payments are excessive. They should only support needs, and perhaps mutually agreed upon excesses [like sports, or other extra curricular activities]. But you should definitely have to provide evidence that all the money is going to the child, and not to buying new shoes for yourself.

Does my colonoscopy really give me insight in being a woman?

Does the additional prostate exam make me know what it’s like to be a grandmother?

[–]JebberJabber -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Does a gyne exam make a woman not a virgin or teach her anything about sex? You mentioned two non-sexual experiences, they are irrelevant to the subject of sexual experience.

[–]v574v 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can’t speak for them but going on their past stupidity I’d say a gyne exam not only teaches virgins about sex it also gives them insight into being a sex trade worker.

[–]Luchadorgreen 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you were to ask that question about women, there would be a huge feminist backlash against the headline. They'd be forced to retract it.

[–]weltallic 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

They publish these articles to deflect/distract from:

  • Vice is being sued for paying female employees less than men.

  • Vice accused of a "toxic culture" of sexual harassment.

  • A Vice producer has been suspended for sexual harassment.

  • Two Vice execs have been suspended for sexual misconduct.

  • Vice Fired yet another one for sexual misconduct.

  • He wasn't the only one fired for sexual harassment

...and women at Vice are contractually barred from speaking publically about it.

The majority of American males alive today were already penetrated (forcibly) with a "circumcision" probe (NSFW) soon after birth.

[–]Troubleshooter11 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being held down and forced to penetrate is not exactly a dominant or active position to be in either.

[–]shassamyak 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where and what went really wrong?

If this is the solution then yes chemicals did turn frogs gay.

[–]superlibster 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let's just go ahead and assfuck baby boys while we circumcise them then.

Elon let me get a ride, please!!!

[–]moose-rider32 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So the entire female experience is summarized by being penetrated? That sounds like women are sex objects...

[–]Fitzimo 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Should women then be readily accepting of snipping their baby girls clit like the boys do?

[–]MezzaCorux 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While I feel every man should try a bit of anal at least once in their life (it’s great fun) this is entirely the wrong reason and will solve nothing.

[–]jmg83 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Years ago at a party, a feminist friend said something similar when talking to a couple about their sexual practices. I said th st was a stupid thing to say because a vagina and a penis were, for want of a better term, designed for each other. She made the ridiculous statement that gay men have been take it up the arsenal, so it must be okay. I retorted that gay men, not having vaginas on account of being men, don't have vaginas, therefore have to make the best of their situation.

[–]FubukiAmagi 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So according to Vice, being a woman is about being penetrated. Wow. That sounds like sexual objectification if I've ever heard it.

[–]lughheim 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was playing D&D today with some friends. My gnome sorcerer successfully convinced a random half orc to have sex with him, except the DM decided to have a bit of fun with it and had her basically penetrate my gnome with a strap on for literally like 4 hours.

It was a really weird session.

[–]shiftynightworker 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]alclarkey 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]boringcarpets 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, gay men and men over a certain age know what it's like to be a woman? And that is solely based on penetration? Vice really are morons

[–]MacMalarkey 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Wafflebot17 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How hard is consent to understand. If women don't want to be penetrated they don't have to be. If a man loves being pegged he can find someone into it. It's not a gendered issue, even if normal hetero sex is man penetrating woman.

[–]B4_da_rapture_repent 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I do think every man should be penetrated once in their life Not sure what that has to do with feeling like a woman.

[–]PanderjitSingh 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Totally, I think there are lots of things people should experience (LSD, authentic Indian food, "Star Trek: TNG"), but I don't think they should be forced to experience them.

[–]BigAl265 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Should every woman be taken to family court and raped? Would that help them understand what it's like to be a man?

Fuck you Vice.

[–]BubblingMonkey 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I do think it should be tried once, you never know if you'll like it. Our G spot is in there, so I'd say give it a try at least once. I did and it's a mixed bag personally.

[–]heimdahl81 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So I'll be the one to say it. I've had a girlfriend fuck me with a strap-on in the past. She was always game for anal, so I figured fair is fair. It was fun, but the only thing it taught me about women is that the ones that complain about anal are whiny princesses.

[–]KingRobotPrince 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She was always game for anal, so I figured fair is fair.

But, presumably, when you penetrated her anally you got some sensation from it, it wasn't simply the act of inserting something into her anus. What was she getting from it when penetrating you?

It kind of sounds like both of these actions, you penetrating her and her penetrating you, were geared towards your pleasure.

the only thing it taught me about women is that the ones that complain about anal are whiny princesses.

Or perhaps each person has their own preferences and not everyone, male or female, likes having something put up their bottom?

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty much it, it's a fetish and vice are trying to enforce it on all men thinking they can be arbiters in our sex lives. It reminds me quite a bit of this weird propaganda I saw that was supposedly by German anti-capitalists who were posting stuff up saying that men should be forced to have gay sex.

What a bunch of cunts.

[–]heimdahl81 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What was she getting from it when penetrating you?

There is more to sex than pure physical stimulation. She found the experience psychologically arousing. Plenty of people seek the same psychological arousal from oral sex their partners.

Or perhaps each person has their own preferences and not everyone, male or female, likes having something put up their bottom?

Preferences are fine, but most complaints I hear break down to complaints about having to actually put in a little effort to please their partners.

[–]stevieboyz 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So are they saying that being penetrated is what it means to be a woman?

[–]JebberJabber -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they are saying it may help you understand the kind of woman for whom being penetrated is an important part of their life. Which is rather a lot of women. NotAllWomen, so what?

you can look at someone with one leg or in a wheel chair and understand that walking is difficult or that curbs suck. you dont need to be in the situation to understand it.

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Excellent example. Everyone understands some obvious things about life in a wheelchair.

But wheelchair users tell us there is a problem with people assuming they understand more than they do, enough to fill an article on Annoying stuff that too many non-wheelchair-users just don't understand.

You can understand that being lower than standing people will make some differences, say.

You could make the effort to find out from chair users what their life is like, and would hear things that hadn't occurred to you, and maybe others that you don't fully understand the significance of.
But if you live in a chair for a while yourself you would likely still get some surprises.

I would assume that generally during sex women desire to be vaginally penetrated. Surely, just as a man might feel a strong desire to disrobe and penetrate a woman, a woman must equally feel a strong desire to have a man disrobe and penetrate her. It appears to give them pleasure and culminates, hopefully, in an orgasm for both partners. I fail to see how being penetrated in a completely different place and in completely different circumstances, would give men any insight into a woman's experience.

I can only think that this would simulate rape and I would worry about the sanity of anyone who thinks that all men should experience rape, or that sex for a woman generally feels like rape.

Men penetrate women during sex. If someone dislikes that and feels that it means men violate women whenever they have sex, they probably need some counselling.

[–]Elvick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]sampatri -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I know whats he's trying to say. I get it.

But it implies that men havent the capacity to imagine how personal being fucked is (or can be for some people).

We do.

But here's the thing. Not all women internalise being fucked in the same way.

Not all gay men internalise it so intensively either. Some gay men I know go to legal sex venues and have up to 4 men fuck them one after the other. And it's them who dont want to see those men who fucked them afterwards.

It depends on the person, but I agree that every man should be aware that (and every boy should be taught as part of their sex education) that some women (and some gay men) take being fucked very seriously. Fucking someone like that, and then ghosting them after can be traumatic and emotionally damaging for that person.

If a man doesnt have the capacity to tell whether a person is one way or the other, chances are that man has a lot of other issues
