It's clear as a bell that the value for men in that statement is as labour or money or support, and by denying women that labour, money or support, you've now forced them to work harder, go without, or struggle on their own. Men's sanity, limbs and lives are clearly valued lower than what that sanity, those limbs, and that life provided for his family.

I am 24 and already I am older than most of the men buried in war cemeteries, if it was 75 years ago I would have been drafted and sent off to France or somewhere to fight. I am not saying that women didn't die in the war they did, in the UK they were drafted and worked in munitions, aircraft factories etc. which were the main target of the Luftwaffe bombing campaigns but its hardly acceptable to say that they were the primary victims.

I am considering enlisting with the UK Army but the attitude of some of the elite to servicemen and women are making me reconsider it

I'm not saying that women should be happy about their friends, sons, neighbors and husbands dying....

...but World Wars I, II, Korea and Vietnam were major coups for women in the workplace, filling essential roles that were left absent by the conscription or death of the men that were previously filling them.

She also ignores the fact that men above or below the age of conscription also suffer the same loss and pain of losing loved ones, while men of conscription age actually died. How exactly are women the primary victims?

You know, there's a side that always gets ignored in all of this, and it's a pretty important aspect of the issue.

Both my father and my mother were in the military. My father served three tours in Vietnam. He was one of the guys taking these pictures. He came back with some pretty severe PTSD, which...speaking from experience...made it nearly impossible for him to show any kind of emotion at all. He was a great guy, and he always tried to do well by us and give us everything he could, but he was incredibly troubled.

My mother didn't have these same issues because of how she was stationed and when she entered the military. One could easily and undeniably state that this is a clear sign of the sexism you would see in the military at the time, and I honestly think that is irrefutable. Regardless, that is no excuse to belittle the experiences of the men who actually went through some pretty horrible shit, and who brought a lot of that shit home because our country didn't care much about bandaging the mental wounds they would carry with them.

I grew up with and continue to struggle with an anxiety disorder, and although I don't blame my father, I can't help but to feel like my experiences with him in some way contributed to my own issues, or may have been informed by them in some way. Let's just say it gives my family a history of mental illness now, and that's not exactly a unique experience – many families of veterans have experienced the same kind of issues.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this: more so than the suffering of women back home waiting for their loved ones (because it's not like the fathers care about their sons, but the mothers? oh, they definitely care), I think the suffering of the family is rarely considered in this matter. I don't think I would call the families the primary victims of war, but secondary? Absolutely. That much is undeniable.

Let me just say that I can't wait until I have to explain yet again to my feminist friends that my choice not to vote for Hilary has nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her proposed policies, lack thereof, and her complete disconnection with what the American people actually want. She is first and foremost a career politician; someone concerned not with service to her country, but with being re-elected and keeping her job. I cannot abide by these people and I refuse to vote for them. I only wish more voters would try to understand how detrimental these types of politicians are to this great American project.

Both of my parents ended up providing years of service to this country, and they never saw it as a job that they should fight to keep in order to maintain their lifestyle; they saw it as a duty to the American people. They have indelibly shaped the way that I approach voting, and I wouldn't dare refuse to vote for someone based on the color of their skin or their gender; I only refuse to vote for someone when it is clear that their idea of public service is perverse and completely disgusting.

Hilary's words here speak to that much better than I ever could. They betray her intrinsically, and show the disconnect she has with the American people. Sure, they're ultimately words that were most likely prepared for her by a speech writer, but that is no excuse; she chose to say them out loud, even if she didn't feel they were true. That's the move of a career politician concerned more with their CAREER than their SERVICE.

I was in Chechnya in the 1990s as a young boy and I experienced the war up close and first hand.

In war, especially urban war, women leave. Around 5 months after the start of the conflict, Grozny was maybe 80% men, the women had fled to safer pastures or refugee camps. This makes me furious, because it was those men who stayed to fight to protect their families, those men who stayed to fight the war instead of let their family be killed or raped.

Armed soldiers would make men fight by gunpoint, while escorting the women and children out of the city.

That being said, it was also shocking to see how horribly women are also treated during war. Russian soldiers raped muslim women, Muslim soldiers raped Russian women. There were dozens of drug addicted women in every camp, often kept there to be constantly fucked by soldiers. While men were tortured a lot, it was horrible to see mostly neutral civilian women (for the most part they didn't care for the war, it was something 'for men') get tortured or raped or cut up and stabbed when they probably didn't have anything to do with the conflict or the fighting. I think what Hillary is saying is that women have typically been innocent in these conflicts, and so it is awful to see them murdered or tortured at all, while it is the men who start the conflicts, so its perfectly fine if they are murdered.

Its fucked up for sure, but there is a tiny bit of reason to what she said.

One of the dumbest things I've ever heard a person say. Either she's pandering for cheap political points, or she actually believes what she said, which I think is actually worse.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this day and age - the implication of her statement was that the "homefront" suffers more than the frontlines - as there are women in the military now and men can be on the homefront.

Even if that's what she meant though, it doesn't make it any less wrong. It's still fucking stupid. Just watching an episode of the Pacific or Band of Brothers is enough to refute the point, and those are just dramatizations of war for peoples' entertainment.

As much as I hate Hillary I still have to agree with her on this. Soldiers choose to go to war, they signed up for the army. Woman on the other hand have no say in it and just get their village invaded, generally speaking.

Edit: Mind has been changed. Not because of the forced labor (conscription) argument or the 'but I need permit/license x and cant have it without killing people in a different country'. It changed because I realized that when a country gets invaded everyone in that country is a victim and in most countries there is a 50/50 population of man and woman.
