I divorced a few years ago and my ex recently texted a seemingly earnest apology. It was very unexpected and she followed up with questions about my life, happiness, etc. It was the most human she'd been towards me in a long time. I thanked her and left it at that. She texted again a few days later but this time asking for a large-ish sum of money. She wanted it for home repairs. She lives with her boyfriend lol. You can't make this shit up.

From what I have learned, outsiders who give opinions on your divorce usually don't understand what people go through and don't give too much weight to what they say.

I didn't share a lot of the shit my ex did to me and what games she played to my family as it wasn't their business nor did I want to continue to talk about it or concern them. Well, same as you, my family was appalled that I wanted nothing to do with my ex when my son was 18.

I wouldn't say that my ex has changed as she is still as bitter now was back then. When my son was 18, it did feel like she no longer had control over me and I was free from the hand of court orders.

My ex only apologized for god knows what after I redirected my pay to another account from the joint account. It was too late anyways because by that time I had already paid the retainer for my attorney and the ball was rolling towards divorce.

Even till this day I don’t think she understands what drove me to file for divorce because she still spent money like she was earning six figures after I filed when she was a “sahm” who didn’t even watch her kids while I worked at home. Like others here have said, some women don’t take accountability for their actions.

No they don't. They won't apologize until they hit rock bottom.

I didn't wait until my kids were 18 (they're still young and I pay CS to her, even though we have 50/50 custody). I started day 1 of just hanging up on her.

Each time she cursed at me? I hung up.

Each time she yelled at me? I hung up.

And the kicker? I always had her on speaker phone, so everyone knew how horrible she was. I saved screen shots of her text messages. I made recordings of her screaming fits.

And I showed them to her family and friends when they tried in vain to tell me that "You're exaggerating! She's not that bad."

And her response? "Don't have me on speaker phone!" And then she cursed at me and I hung up again.

I record every call. The stuff I have on her is insane. She's like a crack addict. Whenever she is broke she asks for money. When she stalks me on social media or if my gf posts any pics she goes ape shit. She still thinks that what's mine is still hers in some way. Bizarre thing is that my family still keeps in contact with her because of the kids.

My ex did recently say that she did some things wrong in the relationship and that I am a “special” person who she was lucky to be married to.

Turns out she was just manipulating me to buy time in the divorce so she could get more free temporary alimony.

So this begs the question… should we even believe them if they apologize?

I have not received anything like an apology... the closest is she finally did admit how she left me was wrong. I don't want to get into it too much but my ex spouse left me via text message.

After 10+ years dumped via text.

I tried having a conversation once with her just saying to each other what we each did wrong but it was so one sided I just laughed. No accountability whatsoever.

Women are delusional. They think they are all 10s and never do anything wrong. They run on feelings not facts.

Hell no. They want money and will do anything to get in - including it holding custody from you through the courts to increase child support. Meanwhile,they're collecting your money and also spending lots of time with the kids developing a deeper bond while the man is paying her money and losing that time to depend their bind.

You said it already. They are snakes. And, snakes don't apologize for biting. The only apology from my ex I'd accept is the one accompanied with a 130k cashiers check. The 30k is for the taxes I'd have to pay over the 100k.

Are you kidding? You are not a snake. You are doing the most appropriate thing. It's really a sad state of affairs that you are completely at the mother's mercy as ex-husband until children are 18. What an absolute joke. If it were not for the kids and horrendous CS, I would not even bother using cerebral energy on that cunt, just dead to me.

But as it is, I also am the good schmuck who needs to keep things amicable and civil - after she had an affair and then left under pretense of "not happy anymore" and destroyed our family, my dreams and my financials.

No my ex is a complete asshole she never apologizes for anything.

Her never mentioning she’s a lesbian my fault. Her sleeping with women endangering my sexual health my fault. Her orientation being discovered by one of our groomsmen 14.5 years and two kids after we married…. I’m a liar and delusional. Her fucking up our sons lives forcing our youngest’s teeth to rot, forcing them out of their family home, their schools, their extracurriculars….my fault. Her spending our sons’ college savings on trying to keep me from ever seeing our kids…my fault. Her new partner having never spoken to me falsely alleging I tried to drown my kids at a party with nearly 30 physicians present….my fault.

I’ve cut her off as much as possible and the day the youngest turns 18 I will never see or speak to her again :)

I will throw a raging party the day she dies
