I walk by myself when it’s nice out on a trail near my home. A few years ago I asked a man that was attacking some geese that flew at him to stop. He then turned his anger on me. He swung at me knocking off my glasses. Then swung his bike at me threatening I’d messed with the wrong person. I tried to cal the cops but had to take off running as he followed me. I caught up to a couple that called the cops for me as he threatened them then took off before the cops came. They told me if I ever see him again to call. I have seen him again several times but always where by the time the cops came he would be gone. He never says anything or does anything. But yesterday he biked by me then lapped around and went by me 2 more times. I got freaked out and went home. It’s my favorite spot to walk but I feel sick to my stomach now to go back. Men literally ruin everything women enjoy. I need to find weapons to carry with me. He is probably twice my size tho and has a bike that he would again use as a weapon.

This story has really haunted me and my mother. It’s even making me question certain routes I will take on the way home in the future because I live in a very quiet residential area with a lot of parkland. Seeing the #notallmen brigade online just added insult to injury. My heart bleeds for Sarah and her family. She did nothing wrong, she was just walking home.

It is so sad and appalling. Women should be able to trust that they can walk home safe.

Also, I have realised that I need to stop being apologetic about taking precautions. If you have (male) friends that make fun of you for not wanting to meet up late, for not wanting to go home alone late or go on a freaking walk in an area you don't know... Ditch them. Don't EVER feel like you just have "toughen up" or brush off your gut feeling. I wish someone had told me that when I was a rebellious teenager...

IM BACK AGAIN FOR MORE RANTING!!! There is a post about this in an English subreddit and I can see so many men “I fEeL uNsAfE ToO” and YES violence is up. There are yobs and dangerous people everywhere, especially late at night in the dark. What are they going to do to you, Nigel? Punch you? Steal your phone? Maybe give you a solid kicking? Take your money?

I live in London and when work goes back to normal, I’ll be finishing at 9pm and due to covid I haven’t had a work day that long since last March. I was so much more naive and even though men would approach me with their cars on the street, or call me “pretty” as I hurried to my house, I never took it serious enough but this situation has opened my eyes. I’m privileged enough to have family members who drive and can collect me from work on those days.

I was harassed by a man on the bus last October at 1pm coming from work and I was wearing a mask, a hijab, my HUGE black winter coat, ever since I’ve been more careful and aware about my surroundings because there’s literally nothing we can do to “prevent” things from happening.

that part of south london is usually so busy, you see families walking around there all the time. its just insane seeing the mens reactions to this murder. they arent addressing the impact of male violence against women at all. they are addressing everything else possible. saying 'oh this is horrible, murder is bad' and 'i never felt safe at night time. its dangerous for EvErYoNe'. and im only seeing women talking about how violating it is that the murderer IS A POLICEMAN whos supposed TO BE KEEPING US SAFE

A FUCKING POLICE OFFICER TOO!!!! Yeah what the actual fuck. I get how sick, twisted and depraved men we deal with, but ON TOP it is the fucking men that is supposed to keep us safe.

I say tie him up in the street and let people throw rotten food at him, he deserves to be publicly ridiculed and punished for this crime. Jail is too good for this piece of shit. He deserves way way worse treatment.

It's so scary, every morning I used to walk in the dark at 5 am to get to work, and the streets would be completely empty. I was always terrified. This poor girl got killed in the city where I live, it wasn't even that late! It's horrifying and just proves we are never safe, it could happen and does happen to anyone (who is a woman or girl) no matter what we do.

I live in relatively quiet town with a central Square with a handful of shops. I walk in the eve to get milk, bread etc. On my own and my parents have rallied at my husband for letting me go out in the dark and I refused to hide at home but this eve..I made my husband go because of this woman's death at the hands of a police officer!! It's horrifying.

I'm furious, a policeman as well no doubt. We just aren't safe anywhere. Nowhere near as bad but I took a 2 minute walk to my car the other night to pick up some plates when I got accosted by some scrote at a bus stop. I had to run with these damn plates a different way back through a field.
