I agree. Always been really hard to find an attractive man, esp nowadays. If you are entering late 20’s-early 30’s, most of the effects of tanning, drinking, smoking, poor diet, steroid use, overall not taking care of yourself start showing. I mean, the changes are rapid. You can be 30, looking fab, then turn 31 and literally lose your hair and watch your teeth become stained.

I credit my good looks to mostly genetics, but I take vitamins every day, work out a few times per week, moisturize and use sunscreen, get laser and other treatments to counter past sun damage...I never drank and don’t smoke so that part was easy.

But yeah. I hadn’t seen this guy in about 7 years. He was sooo handsome. When I saw him in 2017, I was shocked. So unkempt, heavy wrinkles, elongated teeth from smoking and not going to a dentist for ten years(!). I thought he was a former drug user. He’s straightened up a lot and takes care of himself a little more but it could have all been avoided 🤷🏽‍♀️

Back “in the days”, men had to do more physical labor, so they had better bodies. They were stronger and manlier and had more testosterone. This is a fact, lol — men today have less of it.

Also, up till the late 1900s, men dressed well. I mean look at the dudes in suits in the 50s, the men with their fancy clothes and shoes in the 1700s/1800s. That really helps you look better. Now they just throw on a greasy tee and saggy shorts, ew.

I think it’s always been this way, it’s just that back in the day we would have married young, right out of highschool, and been stuck with a LVM forever even if we weren’t attracted to him. I’d venture to guess a lot of men became less attractive as they aged back then as well, seeing as a lot of them worked jobs where they were exposed to toxins (coal mining, for example), and smoking and drinking were even more rampant than they are now. I’m glad we are in a place where we can talk about it now(even if women’s rights still has a long way to go).

A lot of men just think it's acceptable to let themselves go at a very young age, dress like a slob, never practice any type of skincare ever, have poor hygiene, age very poorly due to bad habits etc and women should just be attracted to that because we supposedly aren't visual. If the average man put in 10% of the work that a conventionally attractive woman puts into her appearance, most of them wouldn't be eyesores. They aren't born ugly, they make themselves ugly, inside and out, with their life choices.

For me, this has always been the case.

I have never been someone who dated for looks till the beginning of this year. Even the pretty guys with a six pack don’t really do it for me.

For some reason the only men that I’m really attracted to are a very specific set of celebrities: Jason Momoa, Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Colbert, Hrithrik Roshan, Colin O’Donoghue and Kai from Exo. Literally the weirdest bunch!

Decades/centuries ago there were less overweight and obese people. In general people had better bodies because they were more physically active:

There were no cars, so you had to walk, ride horses or get a carriage if you were very wealthy.
Most jobs were physical, so everyone had more muscle mass and less body fat. From the farmer, the blacksmith even to the rich banker, they had to move more.
entertainment was also more physical, there was no tv. People danced played games, sang, etc
clothes, even for poor people, were not casual. Everyone dressed up to the best of their abilities.
in some of past centuries, men were socially pressured to wear wigs, high heels, corsets and makeup, just like women.
there were less older people, so the population in general was younger.
being tanned was consider less attractive, so as much as possible people covered themselves from the sun, which inadvertently helped their skin stay healthy and young.
however medicine and science were not as evolved, so you also had a lot of people mangled, with horrible scars, with stds, rotting teeth etc.

Up to the 50s and 60s, people were more active and had better bodies in general than today. Look at older photography of crowds or people at the beach. They were slim and athletic looking, with the very occasional exception. Today it's mostly overweight bodies.

To conclude. Yes, men in the past in general looked better. But so did women.

I notice this everywhere I go. I will look around at all the men. The majority are noticeably fat. Fat all over or big, hard, round bellies. Or they're extremely skinny and look like disheveled drug addicts. Both of these types seem to have thick or long beards that gross me out. I don't care if their beard is well taken care of, I still find it unattractive. So with 99% of the men around me being of the above type, I have little options to date, so I don't.

I had many crushes in my early teens. Lost interest around 17/18 and had only few crushes since then. It's not about the looks only, but it's more like all guys turned into a type of man I didn't like when I was young - personality wise they're so boring and dishonest.

No, men have gotten way worse. In my dads generation there was no obesity, they cared about their looks, had good hair, skin, and style. My 60 year old father is better looking and in better shape than the men in my dating pool. These days men have big guts, neck beards and dress like they are homeless. You can’t date down and keep your self respect. I’ll only date at my level of attractiveness.

Even when I was a pick me, I remember telling my girlfriends how every culture has beautiful women but not every culture has good looking men. Obviously that’s a sweeping generalization but shit it’s true. I see beautiful women daily but rarely see beautiful men.

We have more mothers than fathers, as a species - I think it's twice as many. Apparently in the distant past there were 17 mothers for every 1 father!

Men don't really have a complete set of chromosomes, so they tend to extremes, good and bad. Women are more towards the average, again for good and ill.

I don't really know why anyone thinks that a life of manual labour makes men better looking or healthier btw, it used to kill them before they reached old age... men are probably better looking today than they ever have been, it's just that women are better looking than them.

I think women also have higher standards because of the nature of reproduction and its demands on men and women, even when it's not what we're necessarily considering.
