Men in my own life have told me this, back when I was libfem insisting on 50/50. I remember thinking they were old fashioned when they confirmed that no man worth his salt, who actually really liked the woman, would pull that shit.

The deep down truth was that I had low self esteem and didn’t think I was worth guys like that. Those wonderful doting guys were only for pretty women. It 100% came from a place of devaluating myself and thinking I should just be grateful I was even on a date at all.
