I would say it's when they become pre-teens. I remember all my friends moms started talking about how they couldn't wait for them to start working and helping out around that time.

Once they became teenagers they all started getting warnings about how they would be kicked out when they turned 18. The girls were never told anything like that.

Almost completely sure that at a point between 14 and 18 when sexual development makes you be seen more as a man than as a child. I would argue that the sexual discrimination starts sooner, but puberty is the breaking point, when all the weight of being seen as a man starts to pour over.

It's somewhere between 14 and 18 that, despite being a minor, expectations of you to sacrifice yourself for women, slave away at a dangerous job, go to the military, or be judged as an adult despite being a child will begin. It's the time of the first partners, so it will be the beggining of the first double standards, the "walk her home so she doesn't go alone, but go alone to yours" and "it's only normal that she slapped you if you made her angry".

Also, it will be the time when, if you fail, society will stop trying to pick you up and be more concerned about where to throw you.

Any boy who is circumcised stops being loved unconditionally at the instant the decision is made to perform the operation.

After that point, it could be at any age. In times long past, it was at a fairly young age. My father was pulled out of school after grade 8 so he could get a job and help with the family finances. For my maternal grandfather, it was after grade 4.

I think the situation improved a lot for men after the second world war but, with the way the education system is failing boys, it is probably already in the process of retracing an old pattern.

Once behavior is identifiable as the incorrect, male behavior instead of the correct behavior that girls exhibit, then the warmth dries up. Once you are old enough that you can be blamed for your problems, nobody else will be blamed for them ever again.

I would say around 15?

My dad was still holding my hand during drives up until I was 13. I remembering asking him why he did it and he said, "There will come a time where you'll never want to hold my hand again." - that hurt so I kept doing it.

My mum was a bit of a drunken maniac. Still is kind of. She'd show love but at times be horrific. Still about 15.

OMG, a major observation has to be that in formative years (say 1-7 yrs old) a boy's perception of unconditional love is hugely governed by his relationship with his mother. And that the relationship a boy has with his mother is wildly all over the map. It depends on the general culture, the individual family culture, and the idiosyncratic mental health of his mother. From my vantage point, the general, on average setting of a boy's development since I was born in 1952 has done nothing but go downhill. And in my particular case, a father who was absent much of the time, and a mother who was narcissistic crazy, it's kinda amazing I turned out with any level of sanity. :) Thank God for my grandmother on my father's side who actually did love me unconditionally so I could know what that was.

Seemed to be around 12 or 13 where I went from being treated poorly, to just being crapped on by my ultra-feminist "mom"... Comments such as "If you're not going to work and pay bills then why didn't I just toss you in the trash" became almost a weekly occurrence. I was only as good as my most recent paycheck, which was turned over in its entirety to her. If I tried taking even a dollar for myself for even a snack or juice while I was at work (Illegal to be hired at that age, so I did manual outdoor labor, mostly lawnmowing, weed-eating, and tree topping in the heat all day) then I was in for a beating. Was expected to cook for myself, provide my own groceries, and pay as much of the bills as I could. My sister on the other hand was cooked for all the way until she left home and was never forced to work like me and my brother were.

This is a good point. I think it creeps in around when boys start developing their own opinions and aren't just sort of mimics of their parents. But it really hits in early adulthood when men are expected to be self reliant and the less social status you have the more self reliant you are expected to be. If you are an ugly, poor and socially unskilled man you are on your own without love.

In South Asian society, from the moment he is born.

Parents over here think that boys are insurance for old age. Their retirement plan.

Girls are loved and brothers told to love their sisters because they will eventually get married and leave the house.

Meanwhile boys from the moment they are born are expected to take over the burdens of the household. They are expected to make their parents lives easier. Should one fail to meet expectations, "he is not a man" and is compared to all the other "successfull" men in the family, such as cousins. And he is shamed and constantly reminded of everything his parents did for him ( which js basically their responsibility as the chose to fuck and pump out a human).

Getting married also doesn't bring any happiness to the man. No child in the first year, probably something wrong with you or the wife. Parents need grand children ASAP. Also, mother and the wife are constantly fighting for the mans attention and care.
