Possibly the most depressing post on reddit at the moment. A woman poked holes in a condom, lied about being on the pill and the man is still going to be on the hook for child support. I wish I could give legal advice that differs, but according to UK law this is correct.

[–]this-un-is-mine -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

you guys are fucking pathetic lmao no the other half will not be going backwards to a more sexist society so you can let go of that dream right now

[–]arvid1328 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Go fuck yourself

You are the pathetic and you are the sexist people, you divide society by the oppressor (men) and the victim (woman) which is pure sexism against men, society in the past was balanced unlike what femishitism told you over the years. Be sure that people are getting aware sweetheart :* it's just a question of time.

[–]this-un-is-mine -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

you are so pathetic and in denial of reality. what do you gain by pretending that women haven’t been oppressed throughout all of history and that oppression is something with far reaching effects that we need to handle as a society? that’s really all feminism is. acknowledging reality and finding ways to level the playing field. i’m so happy dudes like you will never find a woman to deal with your shit and therefore will never reproduce. you have inferior intelligence and inferior empathy (which is crucial to living in an advanced social society) and inferior genes that seem to be ensuring they will never be passed down. it’s like your brain knows how stupid you are and is making efforts to ensure you never get to pass those genes down. you wouldn’t last a single day as a woman lol you’re far too weak-minded.

[–]arvid1328 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Got more girls than you ever imagine sweetheart 😚 Gimme evidence or shut up, no ad hominem

hahaha sure you do sweetie, sure you do

[–][deleted] 124 points125 points126 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My personal belief as to why feminism comes in waves is because after a few years of feminism, people are generally fed the fuck up with feminism.

The first, second, third, and now fourth (?) waves of feminism have had clearly-defined goals, but when closely examined you see that those goals are usually on the back burner. Every time there is a resurgence of the movement, it inevitably turns out to be nothing more than an outrage machine of huffing, puffing, foot stomping, and shouting. I grew up in the 1990s, and at that time feminism was incredibly unpopular, primarily because people were just sick of the 1970s and 1980s movements. As it is inevitable, they pushed too far, got obnoxious, and turned the public opinion against them. They went back to their safe spaces in academia where they moaned and whined in "academic" journals and classroom discussions.

I think we're hitting the breaking point of feminism again. It is popular--it's everywhere. But its ugly head is rearing again, where it's complaining for the sake of complaining. When they get louder, their message becomes clearer, and the message they're sending now is in no way ambiguous: they loathe men, and they want to say it. It's little surprise that Gen Z men are checking out.

[–]dontpet 58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm 60 years old. I think most people have been saying feminism has gone too far all my life. And me and those around me are on the left side of the political spectrum.

[+]TehReedster891 points 5 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

And me and those around me are on the left side of the political spectrum.

This is a major point. I'm not trying to say that people on the right are evil and people on the left are noble. But it is a super common misconception that people who are anti-feminism or pro-men's-rights are necessarily not only on the right, but on the FAR right. And the people who think that this is true are the same kinds of people who do believe that being on the right makes you an evil, sexist, racist.

It gets pretty tiring as someone who leans left, but who constantly has this large segment of society treating people who agree with me as if they are inherently alt right and therefore evil. In my experience, that is not remotely true. Of the people I know who I feel comfortable talking about these things with, every single one of them leans left. And there have been polls on this subreddit before, and it's pretty much evenly split between left and right; most people hover near the middle, evenly split between left and right, and fewer people are toward the extremes, evenly split between left and right.

The myth that anyone who questions feminism at all must be an evil alt right troll is so tiresome, and isn't remotely accurate.

[–]fgrsentinel 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it is a super common misconception that people who are anti-feminism or pro-men's-rights are necessarily not only on the right, but on the FAR right. And the people who think that this is true are the same kinds of people who do believe that being on the right makes you an evil, sexist, racist.

Part of the reason for this is that every SJW group makes a point of being on the left and they all have a victim/hero complex to them. For them, their entire platform requires an "us vs them" mentality that requires a hero and a villain. Since they believe that only people who agree with them can be leftist (as they seemingly reduce left vs right to a matter of "social justice") then anyone who opposes them has to be far right. As for the part that being on the right makes you evil, well... It's hard to see yourself as the villain when you believe you're the hero, which most "social justice" groups view themselves as.

This is actually something I find funny as a moderate/centrist: SJWs end up creating what I call the "intolerantly tolerant left" if you believe their claims that people who don't agree with them are right-wingers regardless of their other beliefs: they claim to be tolerant, but often are the most racist/sexist, hateful people on the political spectrum in modern times.

Feminism hasn't just gone over the goal line, it's gone over the goal line in an 18-wheeler and is currently making a mess of the stands.

Well yeah Feminists have protested and tried to shut down mens mental health groups before, they were only trying to help out the boys going through tough times and then feminists got offended over that like what the actual fuck is wrong with them?

[–]je97[S] 73 points74 points75 points 5 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget mens homeless shelters, domestic abuse shelters etc.

[–]Pokechu2876 49 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it's honestly insane how feminism is supposedly about equality while also fighting against anything trying to help out men.

[–]je97[S] 47 points48 points49 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Almost like it's not about equality.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a reason why its called "femi"nism and not egalitarianism

[–]skylarkeleven 15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's about reparations

[–]thetruemask 20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Yep, feminism isn't about equality it's about payback.

Even though most of the "evil" stuff did to women though wasn't as evil as feminists think.

Feminists: "women in the early 1900s weren't allowed to work and were forced to stay home!!!"

working in 1900s was torture. There was a high chance of dieing in a labour job, women were being protected by being allowed to stay home. No man wanted his wife to die in a coal mine or Steel mill.

Men knew work conditions were awful and didn't want to subject women to that. It isn't some patriarchal scheme to demean women.

[–]stilllearing02 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So easy to understand yet some people will reply with some dumb shit.

[–]thetruemask 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Feminists don't like when the lies they create are shown to be bullshit.

Recently argued with some feminists on Reddit who insisted the "patriarchy" is real and men ruled the world to benefits other men

But had nothing to say when I said everyday men have no "benefit" and women are already world leaders like the UK and Germany. And half of senators and parliament is female.

Their men rule the world BS doesn't work when there are female world leaders, senators, members of parliament and judges.

[–]fgrsentinel 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Their men rule the world BS doesn't work when there are female world leaders, senators, members of parliament and judges.

Or when most of the stuff the UN does and publishes has to go through the UN Women's organization. It's pretty hard to claim men rule the world when the UN's set up that way.

[–]fgrsentinel 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

working in 1900s was torture. There was a high chance of dieing in a labour job, women were being protected by being allowed to stay home. No man wanted his wife to die in a coal mine or Steel mill.

There's also the fact that women were allowed to take over male-dominated industries during the World Wars without complaint (until the postwar era when the fighting men came home) and single women could find jobs. They tend to gloss over those two facts.

[–]Taha_Amir 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I remember seeing a post in this sub a while back about how feminist forced a shelter meant for homeless men to shelter homeless women only.

Kinda puts into perspective of what male privilege actually is in the real world

You would be right in distrusting. An actual paragraph from the study:

The organised men’s rights movement acts to reassert men’s status and power at the expense of equality for others. Misogynistic resentment of women’s quest for equal rights as a threat to men’s power can easily move towards racist resentments among white men – and women – towards minorities and women, concerning what they see as a displacement of status and dominance. Cloaked as protecting ‘free speech’ against liberal elites, MRAs promote the idea that feminism is an authoritative, controlling ideology to create room for sexism and misogyny to be legitimised through the undermining of feminist reform. In this way, feminists become linked directly to the idea of an out of touch ‘liberal elite’, one that has ‘gone too far’ and become repressive towards men, caught up in identity politics and political correctness. A widespread rejection of feminism among young men reflects the potential power of these messages to penetrate into the mainstream with greater force than the far-right’s traditional message. These narratives speak to bro

We were brought up mostly by gen x and baby boomers. I know gen z is supposed to be conservative overall but it seems like there's a lot of feminists and "socialists" in my gen. It's a shame what this world has gone to but i don't have much hope that it'll get better.

[–]Unandrov 75 points76 points77 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My experience is that the feminists and socialists are usually more talkative, and there are a lot more conservative leaning people than you think. Plus, feminism and socialism sound good on the surface, but are rotten to the core underneath. However, kids (myself included) were raised to only see that surface layer and not the rotten core. However, it seems like as we grow up we start to gain life expereince and come to question feminism and socialism, and lots of people start to see lots of flaws with both. For example, I was raised believing that feminism is good and pure and blah, blah, blah. It wasn't until January of this year that I (now 20 years old) figured out just how bad modern day feminism really was.

[–]recicycle 20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Completely agree regarding only being taught/exposed the surface layer. Out of curiosity, what sort of things led to your discovery? Was it a slow burn or more of an epiphany?

[–]Unandrov 27 points28 points29 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It was a mix of both, I think. I hadn't been a stolid supporter of feminism since freshman year of High School, but I wasn't against feminism either. I was just neutral. I remained neutral up until late last year, when one of my college roommates was accused of violating Article 19 (a law surrounding consensual intercourse on campus). The charge(s) that were brought against him were what made me start to dive deeper. I won't disclose what the charge(s) was/were, for his privacy, but they sounded so out of character for my roommate that I started looking into Article 19, and found my way to a beautiful movie/documentary called "The Red Pill" (which is free on YouTube). I never looked at feminism the same way ever since. I highly recommend it.

[–]recicycle 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks for the recommendation. The Red Pill movie was also pretty pivotal for me, too. I would second the recommendation to anyone reading this, as well as Cassie Jay's (the filmmaker) other follow up and related YouTube content on the matter.

Does communism require socialism as an intermediate step? Maybe. Maybe not.

But socialism can work quite well without being an intermediate step to communism.

Also, everyone seems to associate communism - an economic system, which quite frankly is mostly just a Utopian dream - with dictatorship, a governmental system that has little to do with it in the first place.

[+]Pake10001 points 5 years ago* [recovered] (18 children) | Copy Link

Millennial here. Still socialist. You'd had to be an idiot to think tying your health care plan to an employer is better than a single payer system or than reducing taxes on the millionaires and billionaires will "trickle down".

[–]BionicTransWomyn 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I mean tbh, you're likely still a capitalist. Even "socialist" countries which work like Denmark, Norway and Sweden are capitalist. The idea of collective ownership of the means of production is pretty much at the center of socialism, without endorsing that and collectivizing property, no one can really be a socialist.

That said I kinda find it ironic that today's socialists put so much emphasis on identity politics when those of the past judged these to be petty distractions invented by capitalism to keep the working class down.

None of this is judging you for your political views btw, just some musings on the subject. I used to consider myself pretty left wing and progressive, but with how feminism and left wing politics have evolved, I'm pretty much considered a conservative reactionary now despite being pro single payer healthcare and for free education.

[–]PetrifiedW00D 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most of us hate identity politics. It’s a way to distract you from the real problem in this country, which is income inequality. Divide and conquer is what they say. If everyone made more money, we would all be better off. They say money doesn’t buy happiness, but it alleviates a lots of stress, anxiety, and depression.

[–]Input_output_error 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

without endorsing that and collectivizing property

Socialism is not collectivizing property, it is only about the means of production not being in the hands of private entities. "Collective ownership" doesn't imply something like a communist state that owns all the means of production, as that would be called state-capitalism. A socialistic entity would be owned by the people who work at this entity, not the state.

Socialism has nothing to do with identity politics, what you are describing is a authoritarian state, not a socialist state. The thing that makes feminist unbearable is the fact that they are authoritarian in nature, not socialistic. Identity politics has been used by fascist groups for ages, it is a tool used to divide people, us against them.

[–]BionicTransWomyn 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

State Capitalism is more like Nazi Germany or some parts of modern China. Marx & Engels recognized the necessity of a socialist state which would seize the means of production as an interim to true communism btw.

Also there's a lot of different definitions of collective ownership depending on which ideological current of socialism you follow.

Whether or not ideal socialism has nothing to do with authoritarianism in theory, in practice it most definitely does. That is something proven by virtually every socialist inspired regime across the world.

I will stick with capitalism and classic liberalism.

[–]Input_output_error 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

That Marx and Engels theorized that there was a necessary interim stage to communism doesn't mean that it is needed to socialism. The difference between them is how said means of production where supposed to go to the people. Communism would do it through a revolution were socialism would try to enable it through politics.

If socialism must be authoritarian then capitalism is just as authoritarian in practice. Just have a look around the world and see how many states are authoritarian in nature and are capitalist. The truth is that neither capitalism nor socialism is authoritarian in nature, it is sadly human nature to be authoritarian.

[–]BionicTransWomyn 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

I mean of course there's thousands of different interpretations and currents in socialist thought. That said in Marxist thought, which is the more mainstream interpretation, socialism requires the public ownership of capital. It is thus litterally an interim stage before the stateless society (communism). I'll admit my Marx & Engels is a bit rusty, but if I remember well, socialism would come about by the overthrow of the bourgeoisie (ie: the initial revolution of the working class).

If socialism must be authoritarian then capitalism is just as authoritarian in practice. Just have a look around the world and see how many states are authoritarian in nature and are capitalist. The truth is that neither capitalism nor socialism is authoritarian in nature, it is sadly human nature to be authoritarian.

It's true some capitalist regimes, even many of them, are authoritarian, but you need to look at it proportionally. Out of all capitalist countries, the proportion of free democracies is much higher. Out of all socialist regimes, virtually all of them were dictatorships or single party states and virtually all of them engaged in violent repressions.

EDIT: I'll also add that virtually every country is some kind of hybrid of socialist thought and capitalism, because yes, when unrestrained, capitalism is pretty horrific. That said as a basic economic system, it outperforms socialism historically and it survives being diluted far better than socialism/communism does.

[–]Input_output_error 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Socialism needs the means of production to be in public hands, not the public ownership of capital. There is no need for an interim period, they might have thought it was needed, specially for communism, but that doesn't make it law. Look, it is true that Marx and Engels theorized the early beginnings of socialism, but it is something that keeps evolving. It would be similar to claiming that there isn't such a thing as democracy in our world as it has nothing to do with its original form practiced in ancient Greece.

Free capitalist regimes are more rare then you might think, specially if we include the state capitalists. But as i've said, authoritarian isn't about capitalism, communism or socialism, it is about human nature. While it is true that some free capitalist states are among the most free, capitalist states are also among the least free/most authoritarian out there. But again, it has nothing to do with capitalism.

Edit, There hasn't been a true socialistic or communistic regime and you should not measure socialism by capitalistic standards or vice versa. We all live in hybrid systems then it isn't exactly fair to say that one mixes better than the other, as it is mix of both to begin with.

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

1: men have to pay child support 90% if the time

2: companies are less likely to pick white men nowadays due to "diversity"

3: men can be labelled a rapist and have their whole life destroyed

4: feminists protest/rally outside men's issues conferences. They literally try to stop us from getting help

5: they tear down abuse/homeless shelters for men

There are more so hmu if you're a feminist in denial

Gen Z Male Here.

1: men dont want custody 90% of the time. This is how the system works. If the man gets custody the woman will have to pay.

2: I have never experienced that. Statistics say otherwise. Got any proof? Employment rates are still the highest for white males.

3: woman can get raped and their whole life destroyed. Humans will be humans.

4: what even is that sentence? Please explain

5: they probably do that to woman too. Pls include a source.

Im trying to be a considerate human being. Gender set aside.

[–]Jakeybaby125 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

  1. Most still want custody and it's still taken from them. Also, child custody payments aren't enforced if the payer is female

  2. Several everywhere. I'll try to pull them up

  3. At least they're actually believed when they're raped and they receive counciling. Men are laughed at, mocked, shamed, victim-blamed and told they can't be raped

  4. Look up Warren Farrell

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I didnt know that most men want custody, again, you got any sources ? I've experienced the contrary more than enough.

Please pull them up, I'm waiting.

You think that men being labeled as rapists happens more often then men raping women? I hope that's a joke. Why even bring this up? Do you think this would redeem a women getting raped?

I've watched a few discussions and even this guy doesn't think woman are being treated equally. At least that's what he said in 2016. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP8eSf3aZbM)

You're putting out assumption after assumption without backing anything.

People also rally in front of aborting clinics daily, as I said, humans will be humans. I looked him up, couldn't find anything recent about protests except one in 2012, where a few students rallied in front of one of his conferences.

You sir are biased af. Read a few more books and talk to women and men outside, it'll help.

There was a proposal at Simon Fraser University (near Vancouver) to open up a men's centre on campus to address issues like suicide, drug/alcohol addiction, and negative stereotypes. The women's centre, which already existed, opposed this. They argued that a men's centre is not needed because the men's centre is already "everywhere else" (even though those issues aren't being addressed "everywhere else"). The alternative they proposed was a "male allies project" to "bring self-identified men together to talk about masculinity and its harmful effects"

8].A student at Durham University in the UK, affected by the suicide of a close male friend, tried to open up the Durham University Male Human Rights Society: "[i]t’s incredible how much stigma there is against male weakness. Men’s issues are deemed unimportant, so I decided to start a society". The idea was rejected by the Societies Committee as it was deemed "controversial". He was told he could only have a men's group as a branch of the Feminist Society group on campus, ironically, the feminsits group states that they do not talk about men issues [9].

In 2015, the University of York in the U.K. announced its intention to observe International Men's Day, noting that they are "also aware of some of the specific issues faced by men", including under-representation of (and bias against) men in various areas of the university (such as academic staff appointments, professional support services, and support staff in academic departments) [11]. This inspired a torrent of criticism, including an open letter to the university claiming that a day to celebrate men's issues "does not combat inequality, but merely amplifies existing, structurally imposed, inequalities". The university responded by going back on its plans to observe International Men's Day and affirming that "the main focus of gender equality work should continue to be on the inequalities faced by women". In contrast, the University of York's observation of International Women's Day a few months earlier was a week long affair with more than 100 events [12].

[1].Author Warren Farrell went to give a talk on the boys' crisis (boys dropping out of school and committing suicide at higher rates) at the University of Toronto, but he was opposed by protesters who "barricaded the doors, harassed attendees, pulled fire alarms, chanted curses at speakers and more". Opposition included leaders in the student union [2]

[3].Three students (one man and two women) at Ryerson University (also in Toronto) decided to start a club dedicated to men's issues. They were blocked by the Ryerson Students' Union, which associated the men's issues club with supposed "anti-women's rights groups" and called the idea that it's even possible to be sexist against men an "oppressive concept" [4]. The student union also passed a motion saying that it rejects "Groups, meetings events or initiatives [that] negate the need to centre women’s voices in the struggle for gender equity" (while ironically saying that women's issues "have historically and continue to today to be silenced") [5].J

anice Fiamengo, a professor at the University of Ottawa, was giving a public lecture on men's issues. She was interrupted by a group of students shouting, blasting horns, and pulling the fire alarm [6].At Oberlin College in Ohio, various students had invited equity feminist Christina Hoff Sommers (known for her individualist/libertarian perspective on gender) to give a talk on men's issues. Activists hung up posters identifying those who invited her (by their full names) as "supporters of rape culture" [7] [

At Saint Paul University (part of the University of Ottawa) on September 24th, 2015, journalist Cathy Young gave a talk on gender politics on university campuses, GamerGate, the tendency to neglect men's issues in society, and the focus on the victimization of women (in the areas of sexual violence and cyberbullying). She was met by masked protesters who called her "rape apologist scum" and interrupted the event by pulling the fire alarm [10]. https://www.reddit.com/r/rbomi/wiki/main

"We began our investigation of child custody aware of a common perception that there is a bias in favor of women in these decisions. Our research contradicted this perception. Although mothers more frequently get primary physical custody of children following divorce, this practice does not reflect bias but rather the agreement of the parties and the fact that, in most families, mothers have been the primary [*748] caretakers of children. Fathers who actively seek custody obtain either primary or joint physical custody over 70% of the time. Reports indicate, however, that in some cases perceptions of gender bias may discourage fathers from seeking custody and stereotypes about fathers may sometimes affect case outcomes. In general, our evidence suggests that the courts hold higher standards for mothers than fathers in custody determinations."

At least they're actually believed when they're raped and they receive counciling. Men are laughed at, mocked, shamed, victim-blamed and told they can't be raped

Don't forget if a woman rapes a man and gets pregnant, the courts will force the man to pay his rapist child support. It's quite possibly the only crime in the western world where we punish the victim and reward the perpetrator.

[–]derk702 -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Dude you don't have enough life experience, nobody expects you to know everything but this is definitely the wrong path to go down. . . . Women don't owe you anything, the sooner you learn that the better off you'll be.

[–]BlackHawk_1993 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

I never said a woman owes me anything, but they believe we owe them stuff, for example child support/ labeling men rapists to ruin there lives so on so forth

[–]swamp_potat0 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

So a man who has a child shouldn't be expected to pay child support?

[–]SnusMats -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

It depends. If a woman wants to have a baby/gets pregnant with a one nighter/short fling that wants nothing to do with either her or the baby he should be able to walk away. Her body/her choice/her responsibility.

[–]swamp_potat0 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Someone who’s been used like that and who did not want a baby, I can understand. But then again there is a point to be made that that man has brought a human being into this world, regardless of what his intentions were. It is his responsibility.

[–]SnusMats -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago* (16 children) | Copy Link

Its his responsibility if he stays in the relationship or expresses that he wants to be a parent, other than that it should be on the woman.

[–]swamp_potat0 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

That’s where we differ. It shouldn’t be about the relationship. Two people made a human and it is the responsibility of both of them to take care of it.

[–]SnusMats -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

A man shouldn't be forced into slavery for 18 years because some woman stole his sperm. There are cases where women try to get pregnant with wealthy dudes/lie about birth control/take sperm from tossed condoms. If the dude says no early on in the pregnancy, he should be able to walk away.

[–]swamp_potat0 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Are you imagining Fatal Attraction haha. I don’t know. I’d have to see some statistics for that. I guess I just am analyzing the obvious double standard. When the same thing happens to a woman where they are raped or have been forced to become pregnant, they are then forced to become a mother, or a “slave” as you put it. They often don’t have the option to just walk away.

This is in the UK. The indoctrination is strong here.

[+]Void_-54 points 5 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

It's also strong in middle europe as well. You can bet that if you have a female teacher in your native language subject, you will most likely be graded worse than your female classmates and you will experience a lot of shittalking against men from the teacher.

It was always amazing when we did a book report, in which a woman cheats on the man even though he provided for everything, the teacher always found a way to blame the man.

By the end of the year, every male classmate was fed up with her and had a really strong stance against feminists like her.

[–]JayPlaysBeamNG 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What did the female classmates think?

[+]Void_-19 points 5 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, the ones that did participate in class did agree with the teachers position on many things regarding men and the current social system. But I wouldn't say they were all feminists, but rather agreed with the teacher to keep being graded better on their assignments.

I find on particular instance very funny, because a female classmate started to go on a rant about her previous experiences with men. She claimed that a lot of her boyfriends started cheating on her and that she doesn't understand how a human being could do such a thing.

Fast forward 3 months, she's in a relationsship with my best friend, who basically adored her, and guess who cheated on whom?

[–]PetrifiedW00D 13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]BigRanga 25 points26 points27 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends how you interpret the statement. The full statement is [Half of boys and men aged between 16 and 24 believe that] "feminism has gone too far and makes it harder for men to succeed."

As a gen z male I'd probably interpret this as "feminism has gone too far and makes it harder for men to succeed [in comparison to women]."

From skimming the report there doesn't seem to be any extra words chopped off to make a different meaning.

[–]thetruemask 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

IMO now the coin has just flipped. Now it's young men at a disadvantage.

Women are automatically given work preference for "diversity" same with anyone non white.

If there are two resumes on a desk with identical work info and identical skill the women gets the job.

Same if you non-white. Identical resumes, the non-white person gets the job.

How isn't this sexist towards men? And racist towards white people. Just because your a white man now can't get a job because all people care about is your color or the absence of a dick between your legs.

It's truely a bad era to be a white male.

Which isnt fair because it's like any random young white guy created racism or "patriarchy" himself.

Everyone should be successful. It doesn't have to be one-or-the-other game.

[–]swamp_potat0 -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

"It's truly a bad era to be a white male."

How incredibly tone deaf considering the current state of the world and who are in the majority of the positions of power.

Additionally, increasing opportunities for one group does not make it more difficult for the other group to succeed. White men happen to benefit from the patriarchal system created by men years and years ago when women and people of color had close to no rights.

It's just about giving everyone equal opportunities now that we've wised up about all humans being equal and how no one group is superior to another.

[–]IMGONNAFUCKYOURMOUTH 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Here's the thing: the majority are not in the positions of power. The average white guy has as much 'power' as the average anyone else.

[–]swamp_potat0 -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So who are in positions of power?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Outlier white men. There are people of other ethnic backgrounds also in positions of power, but you're right that it's skewed. But it's also important to recognize that not everyone who is in power is someone who's name you'll know or be aware of.

[–]thetruemask 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (12 children) | Copy Link

How incredibly tone deaf considering the current state of the world and who are in the majority of the positions of power.

I didn't say no one else out there has it bad. If your referring to BLM in the US yes I know. Black people undoubtedly suffer from systemic racism. That aside my statement still stands.

And no your average white man is not in a position of power. This "tone deaf" statement is racism also assuming because you white you hold some kind of power other over people. That is not at all true. And your a racist for even implying that.

White men happen to benefit from the patriarchal system

This is a myth this big "patriarchy" thing is a lie. Now more than ever.

Men are victimized and discriminated against more than women. Does men being drafted to be killed in a war sound like the "patriarchy"?

Patriarchy is just a buzz word for weak minded sheep to rally around anti-male sexism.

How about being more homeless, victimized, murdered, suicidal, imprisoned and used?

Denied custody more, sentenced harsher and more often then women, not as promoted in post-secondary education mocked openly for their gender and assumed to be a pervert or criminal.

increasing opportunities for one group does not make it more difficult for the other group to succeed.

This should and could be true but it isn't. Specifically not when talking about things like employment. "Employment equity" specifically will hire a women for being a women and deny a man employment with identical work experience.

That isn't equality. It's equity. Which is why it's often called "employment equity"

It's also racial feminists who only care about pushing a female agenda who don't want equality. Feminists have tried to block things like male homeless shelters. And scoff at any notion of support or rights for men.

[–]swamp_potat0 -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

  1. The man and the woman with identical work experience. What’s the problem with going for the woman if they both have the same experience? Couldnt the same argument be said that it’s unfair to the woman if the man got chosen?

  2. How is it racist? Racist toward white people?

  3. Patriarchy is just a system where men benefit and are the ones power. I can assure you we do not live in a matriarchy.

  4. By racial feminist do you mean intersectional feminist? I don’t know what you mean

[–]thetruemask 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

  1. The man and the woman with identical work experience. What’s the problem with going for the woman if they both have the same experience? Couldnt the same argument be said that it’s unfair to the woman if the man got chosen?

Your either dense or being ignorant on purpose. Have you never heard of employment equity?

There is nothing wrong with choosing the best person for the job. Man or woman. The problem is even taking gender into account which is how it's being done now. Hiring a woman is obviously fine but not BECAUSE she's a woman. Or giving the job automatically to one specific gender.

  1. Patriarchy is just a system where men benefit and are the ones power. I can assure you we do not live in a matriarchy.

Well your wrong. Explain to me how you average everyday man "benefits" from this patriarchy?

There are no benefits to being a everyday man. But there are benefits to being a woman. There are more support systems for women and every system in place is more kind and forgiving to women.

How is the world not a matriarchy? Women are valued more than men. People are trained to be polite to women and have more respect than for men, people would go out of their way to help a woman but not a man, women are taught to be cared for, men have to "suck it up" and deal with their problems. Women are loved for just being themselves. Men have to work hard provide and be useful to be loved.

A woman can point at any man on the street and say he hit me/groped me/was mean to me and he would be beat or arrested. Men have went to prison because when a woman dreamt about being raped, google it.

If a guy point a women on the street and says she hit/raped me/ was mean to be know what happens? People will laugh in your face.

Even look at what's happening with will Smith and the Johnny Depp situation. Patriarchy my ass.

Even war men are marched off to kill each other in the millions and women have never been subject to a draft. If it were a patriarchy men would only send women to war.

Sure there are more male politicans currently. But no one is stoping women from doing that. There is no ban on female leader / world leaders. The UK and Germany have had female leaders. including a reigning british queen in the UK for 60 years.

In a true patriarchy a women would never be allowed to be queen. / The sole ruling leader in the absence of a king.

Most countries half the parliament or Senate is female. A thing feminists are blind to or intentionally ignore. Because it doesn't suit the "men rule the world and are evil" BS.

[–]swamp_potat0 -5 points-4 points-3 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Men are evil? Who said that? The system is the problem. And all I said was the definition of patriarchy. It is your a opinion that we live in a matriarchy.

Every radical feminist says that. The ones always spreading that patriarchy BS. And lies like the wage gap. Unless you have some solid proof of this patriarchy stop regurgitating femi-nazi hate speech.

The modern day patriarchy is a lie made up by radical feminists to anger average women to mobilize in anti-male protests and disruption. There is no patriarchy.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'm a radical feminist. I don't say that. But it's not impossible for patriarchal and matriarchal systems to coexist simultaneously within different contexts. Particularly since every single US President and Vice President ever has been AMAB and a man, I think it's heavy-handed to be dismissing the idea of a patriarchy outright.

[–]thetruemask 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Particularly since every single US President and Vice President ever has been AMAB and a man

Your talking ancient history whatever did or didn't exist in the past is irrelevant now. 100-200 years ago isn't today. Slavery was also legal 200 years ago does that mean you can buy slaves? Of course not.

No patriarchy exists TODAY. who cares what the situation was 100 years ago. The only thing that matters is today.

Feminists always like to dig through history for reason to act like a loon today. Be angry about things you never experienced.

And what do you mean AMAB jeez. No president has ever had a sex change. And of course mostly men were presidents because the majority of Presidents were in office before then civil rights movements when real sexism existed.

A woman didn't even run until 2016. And LOST to the worst president of all time. Idk why more women didn't vote for Hillary. Trump has tons of female supporters how's that for "patriarchy". WOMEN not supporting a female president.

Where were all the female support group and feminsts when Hillary was running???? I didn't hear shit from them.

heavy-handed to be dismissing the idea of a patriarchy outright.

No. It's fact. For the reasons listed above plus, Patriarchy you could say existed when women couldn't vote, when they couldn't buy a house or buy a car without being asked about the "man of the house" when women weren't being educated.

None of that exists in the civilised areas of the world so no THERE IS NO PATRIARCHY.

The idea of a patriarchy existing today is PROPAGANDA used by feminist extremists.

Yea but now you have more women going to university than men. Boys are being demotivated by the school system compared to the attentive support girls get.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That’s a good point, but is going to university necessarily a good thing? My sister is in massive debt because she went to college because it’s what you’re “supposed to do.” I ignored that bullshit and have zero debt, awesome credit, an associate’s degree in a field I love, and a better exposure to education than almost every Bachelor’s and Master’s graduate I know that I picked up for less than 500$ from half price books. I do need a Bachelor’s still and that’s a whole process, but I’m in a way better position to come out with no debt and a good career than if I jumped straight into college.

[–]Kythamis 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Traditionally it’s one of societies biggest measures of success, but yea I get ya. It’s just an inequality that seems to be ignored and acceptable compared to how outragestly unacceptable it was when it was the other way around.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I feel that. It’s shitty. My ex started dating me when I was homeless, up to the point of helping me pay for an apartment until I got a raise and I was able to pay for it myself. I think we both thought it would be okay because she was the woman and I was the man, and so that way the power dynamics would sort of balance out.

It really didn’t. She was super emotionally abusive and basically acted like she owned me until we broke up. Who’d have thought? 🤷🏽‍♂️ turns out some inequity can’t just be reversed to make things better. Gotta invent new systems.

[–]Kythamis 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Rip man. They say women are no different than men at the same time they say men are these terrible creatures. Well, what is it? Why do they continue to confuse how horrible humanity is for how horrible men are?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you hit the nail on the head. We are all monsters. But men are allowed more leeway to identify with the monster, and I think for that reason it’s easier for us to acknowledge things about our psyche like impulses towards violence, depersonalization of other humans and aggressive or promiscuous sexual impulses.

For women, social and emotional control and status is more decoupled from the physical power they can exert from their own bodies, and is a lot more image-based (my assessment anyway). So for them to admit they’re capable of dehumanizing and callous behavior causes a lot more cognitive dissonance.

Ex had depression, I had long ago recovered from depression. But we had a discussion about how I was attracted to vulnerability and her first reaction to that was “I think you need therapy.” Well, we both knew she needed therapy, and even though I was confident I was fine I wanted to encourage her so I said I would go if she did. I went for like three months; therapist was like “Yeah you’re good.” and then I felt satisfied. She never went, said it was “scary.”

[–]rabel111 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Half of Gen Z boys and young men think feminism has flaws, and these idiots think that means there's something wrong with Gen Z boys!

It is really hard for feminists to exhibit any insight into their own beliefs and behaviours.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm a gen-Z girl, also a feminist...but what happens to me when I bring up this issue to my feminist peers?

I get blamed of "internalized misogyny"

Yes men and women both have issues and problems of their own...but trying to cause men more issues is not the solution to equality.

But no, I'm just an "internalized misogynist" because I believe in equality.

Radical feminism at this point has turned into more of a cult. You get shamed for having anything else other than a radical opinion. In other words radical feminists are turning more into feminazis.

Not all feminists are like the radicals, though. Its because of those people that the whole feminist movement is getting shamed upon.

[–]rabel111 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sounds like you have a much more balanced and empathetic view of men's and women's issues compared to many more radical feminists. Stay true to that and keep on using your insight, it keeps you on course.

Not everyone who considers themself a feminist, hates men. We know that. Many of the men on this subreddit have and still do acknowledge the inequities faced by women, and many have supported feminism in the past.

But it's difficult to justify supporting a movement that actively and very vocally deploys hate speech and negative stereotypes about men, and actively works to stop the recognition and funding of issues and inequities experienced by men and boys.

Feminism is getting a reputation for being a hate movement, and this is not a recent trend. Recently a New York Times journalist and feminist praised the work of Valarie Solanas, the radical feminist who wrote the SCUM manifesto (1967) and shot Andy Warhol (1968). The iconising of radical feminist from the present is no different with feminist hate speechers like Clementine Ford (KILLALLMEN) being applauded for their contribution to feminism.

This iconising of radical feminists, the hatred of men, the academic sanctioned activisism intended to silence and defund men's issues and the continuing silence of less radical feminist that enables this radical hate based feminism, all contribute to the strong evidence based perception that feminism overall, is based on misandry.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, it is because of the cult mentality that follows these radical feminist icons. Nobody questions them because they have turned more into a cult leader than a normal person stating an opinion. This is why they are being supported by radical feminists.

But I have hope, once the newer gen-z feminists come up, I really really hope that they will completely dissolve radical feminism altogether. The newer gen-Z feminists will expose their cult and push forth for equality.

Anything radical is bad. Be it feminism, leftist or conservative ideas. Radicalism has to end if we want to stop spreading hatred. Radical feminism has sadly changed society's views and tipped the equality scale more in favour of women. Just like how you described. I am confident though that this mistake will be undone as a newer generation of feminists takes over the old one.

You know what the best way is to end discrimination against both genders? Its the MRA and Feminism movements joining hands and working together rather than against each other. Only if women understand the issues of men and men understand the issues of women and only if both work towards eradicating them together, giving both equal importance; can this world be a better place to live in for everybody.

I really hope that in a few years down the line, this becomes a reality...as far-fetched as it seems right now, it does seem like when Gen-Z take over, both men and women will work for each other rather than against each other.

A new generation brings new ideas and thoughts, and I'm confident that MRA and feminism will join hands and work to support and help each other one day. So that both misandry and misogyny is eradicated

[–]theholdencaulfield_ 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The truth is, feminism has definitely gone too far. It's only a matter of time before this bitter truth is accepted by all, especially by women themselves

[–]dragonjock27 37 points38 points39 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This isn't good news. This means that half of Gen Z men think that feminism hasn't gone too far. And that's fucking terrifying.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As a Gen Z myself, it's not too bad because the 50 percent against modern feminism voice their opinions and stand their ground a lot more than the opposing 50 percent.

[–]SKNK_Monk 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Making it not legally possible for women to rape men would be an example. Or when they get men's domestic violence shelters or men's suicide conferences shut down. Or when they push for more female representation in government departments that are already 80% female. Cutting men out of job, education and housing opportunities. That kinda thing.

[–]Sneakerkeeper123 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Gen x female. We wanted our rights. But you know, the important ones. My mom wasn't allowed a credit card in her name. I went car shopping at 25 and told to come back with my husband or boyfriend or dad because the salesman said he couldn't take me seriously. I wanted to be a paramedic and not get treated differently. I agree we've gone too far in the opposite direction. I hope the work I do with my daughter can help reel it back to equal respect and simple understanding. Also, how are you all holding up lately?

[–]Mycroft033 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Equal respect for everyone would be great. It’s utter bullshit that when you get people not taking you seriously, it’s because you’re a woman and literally no other reason. I think it’s equally awful when that same experience happens to a man falsely accused. Why can’t society just respect people as people?

[–]thetruemask 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Morgan Freeman: "I'll tell you what, I'm going to stop calling you a white man and your going to stop calling me a black man, we'll just be men."

I think take that a step further. I'm going to stop calling you a woman, and you won't call me a man we'll just be people.

It's these labels that seperate everyone. We're all just people we need to stop playing these games.

My mom wasn't allowed a credit card in her name.

Your dad was responsible for every penny your mom spent, and would go to jail if he couldn't pay her debts. You didn't know about that part, though.

I went car shopping at 25 and told to come back with my husband or boyfriend or dad because the salesman said he couldn't take me seriously.

Bullshit. If you went car shopping at 25 and the salesman wouldn't deal with you, you were either wasting his time or he was an idiot for not taking you for every penny he could get.

And even if you're not just making up a story, big fucking deal. Go somewhere else. You met one jackass.

I wanted to be a paramedic and not get treated differently.

You will always be treated differently. People will always be nicer to you because you're a woman. They will always be more welcoming to you because you're a woman. They will bend over backwards to help you do practically anything you want because you're a woman.

You have a ridiculous amount of female privilege and you can't see any of it, because what is it they say? Privilege is invisible to those who have it?

Millennials are fucked up

[–]jonny-p 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sad thing is I love feminism, at least what it used to be. I think it’s fantastic that women (and a lot of men) fought for the genders to be equal. It seems that many modern ‘feminists’ feel that they are owed something extra for past inequalities that they never personally lived through. There are a few areas where women are still at a disadvantage and those should be addressed but it should not be at the expense of men. I can’t stand when I read about girls doing so much better than boys at school for example, that should read ‘schools are failing boys’. If the vocal social media feminists really care about equality maybe take on Saudi Arabia where women actually are treated awfully rather than complaining men take up too much space on the tube or happen to be in their way at the gym. Women should be treated equally but that also means no special treatment.

[–]tryintofly 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And nearly all of Millennials and Boomers I would imagine.

[–]OneAttentionPlease 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well what imagine do Gen Z People have of it?

I've been telling People that saying stuff like #kam #killallmen2020 #menincages2020 is antifeminist because it really Harms the Reputation of feminism and therefor the support for it. It turns away potential allies to. So it is Overall bad for Women's Rights.

When I Point it out. I get attacked with stuff like "The men who complain About it are the reason why we say it. - Don't be so sensitive - go cry about it - men have been doing the same for ages (two wrongs don't make a Right)" which is just such a stupid fallacy.

Not sure whether 1997 counts as millennial or gen Z or what, but hell yeah.

[–]slidez_7000 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The issue comes hand in hand with identity politics. When you promote the interests of one subgroup, there is a point at which that will infringe on the interests of another. This is inevitable.

You see it all the time in mini squabbles between LGBTQ+ subgroups.

The trick is to find common ground where men's issues and women's issues can work together to bridge the gap and make it less acrimonious on the uncommon issues.

The problem with that is that misogyny and misandry is both rampant on either side and wrongly identified to shut down opponents and allows the accuser to blatantly ignore anything they don't like. It's a tough problem to solve and until people stop hurling abuse at anyone who doesn't agree, it will not be solved.

I'm a gen-Z girl, also a feminist...but what happens to me when I bring up this issue of radical feminism being biased towards women to my feminist peers?

Yes men and women both have issues and problems of their own...but trying to cause men more issues is not the solution to equality.

But no, I'm just an "internalized misogynist" because I believe in gender equality.

Its because of these older, radical feminists(mostly millenials) that the whole feminism movement is getting shamed.

The future is bright though, I believe the boys and girls will work together to solve the whole issue of gender equality together when they grow up. Rather than make it political and fight against each other the way the previous generations did.

The solution to gender equality is both men and women working together to support each other and not against each other. This is what both gen-z boys and girls believe in.

Gen Z here. They really need to be a lot more carful on how they condition the youth in attempts to change the culture. They should honestly be doing tests, samples and trials like drug companies before introducing some possibly contradictory societal rules that leave half the population in a state of agonizing anomie.

For example, I was basically raised to think initiating flirting = sexual harassment (which legally it pretty much is.) Only when women advance is it ok to reciprocate flirting (sexist) but in practice women almost never initiate because they’ve been raised to expect men to, (or maybe I’m just unattractive, but that raises the question, what do unnatracrive people do?).

The media’s also drilled it in to be afraid of approaching women since they are depicted as being constantly being approached, and all the men approaching them as ass holes. I have to fight a stereotype threat to prove myself, which combined with the legal considerations is just way to much unnecessary pressure for simply walking up to and talking to a girl I’m interested in (let alone the typical anxieties of rejection).

Anyways incel because school system broke.

Radical feminism has turned more and more into a cult. But not all feminists are like the radicals. Its because of them that feminism gets shamed.

Sometimes I feel weird. How does it feel knowing that we are fighting a losing battle. Feminism and other extremists will only get more popular and powerful over time. And even though we know how bad and dangerous it is, how it is destroying our society and values, we cant do anything against it. Our attempts are insignificant.

[+]Lutrina -9 points-8 points-7 points 5 years ago* (18 children) | Copy Link

It’s because a lot of us have the wrong definition of feminism.

It’s not some ideology worshipped by psychopathic women cult believing they are the superior gender, though maybe .1% of feminists are actually like this. In reality, it’s literally just believing women should have the same rights as men.

Edit: before anyone sees this comment, let me clarify. I’m not saying that feminists going too far (which certainly happens) is just women trying to be “equal.” The point of my comment was that the actual definition of feminism is the belief that men and women are equal human beings.

[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Female supremacy and keeping female privilege intact

[–]birdsdonotsleep -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What privileges do females have over males?

[–]Jakeybaby125 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Reproductive rights,

Bodily integrity rights (genital mutilation),

Rights to decline being pressed into service by the state (bucket brigade, selective service),

Right to citizenship without additional requirements (selective service),

Parental/Father's rights,

Right to be counted as rape victims (instead of made to penetrate),

Rights to due process (title IX), fair trial and equal sentencing (conviction rate gap, sentencing gap),

Right to equal retirement (despite having shorter lifespans),

Right to equal funding (in government programs, healthcare services, birth control without copay - tubal ligation is covered by federal law. Vasectomy is explicitly excluded),

Right to refuse to be held responsible for unilateral decisions made by women, especially when it comes to child support (financial abortion),

Right not to be on the hook for child support to someone we didn't have legal consensual sex with (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermesmann_v._Seyer),

Right to equal opportunity and access in employment regardless of race or gender (no arbitrary laws mandating XX% of workforce/directorship must be women, etc),

Rights to the Determination of Bodily Fluids - Courts have ruled that once sperm leaves a man's body, a woman can use it to get pregnant, even if it is against his expressed wishes; courts have also ordered to release stored sperm, etc). Its quite telling that a woman, knowing the man has repeatedly stated his desire not to have children, can still use the man's sperm (either fishing the used condom from the trash or through obtaining the sperm orally or facially or otherwise) to turkey-baste herself to get pregnant, and then file for child support from the man years later and the man is automatically placed on the hook for child support.

Right to pay for sexual stimulation and enjoyment - either as a service (many countries ban prostitution and in US some states criminalise the 'buyers' in prostitution, but not the 'sellers') or via sexual aids and fetishes (sex toys, dolls, or otherwise - this right has been enjoyed by women without restrictions, but sex dolls are increasingly being outlawed).

[–]birdsdonotsleep -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't know what you mean by "reproductive rights", but Circumcision Is something I also agree should be stopped.

In the US the selective service hasn't been used sense the 70s and congress ruled that an all male draft is unconstitutional because women can now serve in the armed forces.

Father's rights used to be really bad, but it is getting better 50% of all divorces end with 50/50 co parenting.

In the US men can be raped (by men and women).

The right to due process is bad, and I completely agree with you, but It is not going to change unless we completely reform the justice system.

Men having shorter lifespans is a biological thing that we cannot change.

You are right about the birth control, we have condoms and a Vasectomy those are the only options, I agree that needs to change.

Child support is payed when you make more than your partner, that 39% of fathers are awarded child support.

Equal opportunity is over stated, the whole point is to help women get into fields so it isn't an overwhelmingly male field (I don't really agree with this one).

The Rights to the Determination of Bodily Fluids I completely agree needs to be changed.

The last one I also agree needs to be changed but it is not a right.

[–]Jakeybaby125 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Once sperm leaves a mans body, it's no longer his

In other places, however, that is still a problem. Look at what Sweden feminists did in regards to their draft

Not really. 70% of divorces are still filed by women and 90% of the time custody is still given to women

They can be but feminists in India and a few other countries successfully protested against it being gender neutral

And get the gynocentrism out of it, yes

We can change the age of retirement though

There still isn't an enforcement on child support if you're a woman though

And yet there's no push to get men into female-dominated fields like healthcare and nursing

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Lutrina -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Lol, you didn’t even read my comment. I didn’t say that all feminism is fair and has noble intentions. All I’m saying is you probably have the wrong definition of what a feminist is in your head.

You, too, are probably a feminist without even realizing. The word should not be called feminism, because that gives people the assumption it’s female supremacy or some shit.

Feminism is the idea that all sexes should be equal politically, socially, and economically. That includes males being equal, unlike what the so called crazy “feminists” say (which get the attention because if how stupid they sound). So, just because there are some naggy females doesn’t mean all feminists are like that because in reality most people in developed countries are feminists without even realizing it.

[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Are you really sure about that? In order to be a movement for equality, you need to focus on the issues affecting both men and women. Feminism only focuses on the issues affecting women and ignores, if not aggravates, issues affecting men hence why it's not a movement for equality. Feminism is not for men. Feminism doesn't care about men. Name me one thing that feminism has done for men. Just one

[–]Lutrina 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Men feel more comfortable not being viewed as an emotionless masculine person. Women are now allowed to enter the military. Men can also be seen as victims of rape in court. Our economy gained a big boost from women joining the workforce. Those are just a few ways feminism has benefited both genders.

[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Dating scene is crashing down and no they don't actually

Don't know how women entering the military is beneficial for men

Nothing to do with feminism

Sources?

You've just listed ways of how feminism has benefited just women, not men. Show actual sources that show what feminism has done for men. Convince me to be a male feminist

[–]Lutrina 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How is the dating scene crashing down? I can think of recent pluses, such as the old fashioned ways going out the window slowly but surely. Men and women often split the tab nowadays.

Women joining the military means it’s not only men who have to fight and die for our country. It increases the power of the country too. This obviously benefits men because they aren’t the only ones who have to fight in dangerous situations, otherwise it wouldn’t be fair.

You ignored my others points, such as the economy getting a boost. That is undeniable, and helps both parties out.

The toxic gender standards are dissolving. That isn’t just gender standards for women, but for men too. They don’t need to be some muscular, tough person who is the provider for their family. They don’t need to hate the color pink. They don’t need to hold the door open for ladies (though it’s appreciated if men hold the door for anybody, male or female). You can thank the feminist movement for that.

Why should I waste my time to provide you a source on something that’s common sense if you follow politics? Look it up yourself, you will find it. Especially if it is a court case in the 2000s involving men’s rights (like how single men are now allowed to apply for money in tough times), or about social standards for genders.

[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because men are expected to keep their traditional roles by feminists. Don't even get me started in marriage

The draft is still in place in other countries and feminists in Sweden actively fought against it being gender neutral

I didn't. I asked how having more women in the workforce benefits the economy

That's not actually true. The Mens Rights Movement has done that. Feminism has only fought to keep them in place for men

I'm not doing your research for you. You make a claim, you should be prepared to back it up.

Now, convince me to be a male feminist

[–]Lutrina 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How about you convince ME of your points? Because so far you’re doing a pretty poor job.

Feminists don’t want to keep make gender roles. Otherwise they’d be happy sitting back being a housewife while men worked a job. Please, tell my how marriages are worse now, I seriously don’t understand the point you’re making.

If that thing about Sweden is true, wow that’s really fucked up and they might self identify as “feminist” but that goes directly against the definition of a feminist, see the link on my original post.

Other countries have it much worse though. We don’t talk about third world countries, but in some poor areas men are allowed to marry multiple women, and women cannot marry multiple men, leading to real life harems and women being viewed as disposable. In some areas, women can’t do anything without men supervision and that isn’t even an exaggeration. In only 2017, Saudi Arabia finally allowed women to drive.

I didn’t see the part where you asked how it benefits the economy, but the answer is simple. A larger workforce increases the pool of money. More people receive money, and then spend it on their community.

You do realize men’s rights are a part of feminism, right? Feminism called for the cease of all gender roles, including men. The same people who advocated for women gender roles to become null also did so for men’s gender roles.

[+]CapoFantasma975 points 5 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

The ideology itself also focuses on women and disregards men and trans. If it were egalitarian as a movement, it wouldn't push for gendered laws and oppose the neutering of existing gender specific laws, for example.

[–]The3liGator -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your conflating ideologies with organizations. That's like saying that the men's rights movement is responsible for the pandemic response because the Republican party claims to support men's rights

Plus, TERFs are a subsection of feminism, and saying feminism (as though it is a sentient being) is excluding trans people is misleading at best

[–]The3liGator -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Let's clear it up. Does being an MRA require one to be conservative, capitalist, and/or racist?

[–]ikeisco 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Don't know where you're going with this but I'll roll with it. I wouldn't have thought so, no. Why?

[–]The3liGator 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The policies that we ascribe to "feminists" is often the policies pushed by neoliberal, class-blind, racist and often outright supremacist organizations. In the current political climate (the West after WWII), that is the only kind of political organization with sway. however, that doesn't mean that is all feminism can be

In the same way, most "successful" MRA movements are conservative, which force MRAs to play the "not all MRAs" card when conservative policies are pushed. For example, abortion. When an MRA politician restricts access to abortion, we can claim that abortion has nothing to do with men's rights, but the optics are "prominent MRA figure bans abortion."

So, to blame all feminist movements for the destruction cause by "successful" movements is a form of generalization that is detrimental to possible allies

[–]ikeisco 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough. What policies would you ascribe to feminism that are usually not ascribed to it?

Edit: is your point that in a perfect world, feminism (or rather, feminists) would be egalitarian in nature?

[–]BigRanga 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While I completely agree with you, I think the problem stems from school

Being a gen z and being in a classroom where we are brainwashed to hate men, these organisations are not the only ones pushing for brainwashing, a lot of the times the teachers are on their side.

I've literally seen a teacher give a reward (some free food at the canteen iirc) to my friend for coming out as gay. I've also seen this same teacher go off at one of my other friends because he respectfully declined to help raise money for an organisation for LGBT awareness (he was on the student rep council).

I've had multiple classes highjacked by a different substitute teacher that would bring up domestic abuse charities and talk to everyone about them, in a class with majority males. She explained domestic abuse as man abuses woman.

Our muck up day tradition at school was for the boys to dress up as girls and vice versa. This was cancelled because there was one trans person in a year below.

We even had a male teacher tell the class that not paying reparations for slavery was racist, and that anyone who disagrees is racist (I wasn't there for that one so I'm not %100 sure on details.

So while I %100 agree with you, I feel like a lot of these young men arent going to know about these feminists with actual feminist views, because all they've seen and learnt about is the bs organisations.

[–]ikeisco 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]The3liGator 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I explained in another comment

[–]RemCogito 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Egalitarianism has always been the ideology of equality. Feminism has always been female centered. I would happily agree even that when it was started Feminism was necessary in order to reach a point of equality.

Heck, (and this might be a hot take for this sub) I would even argue that parts of Feminism are still necessary because society still tries to interfere with their bodily autonomy. Which I think is the basis of all other rights.

But Feminism has always been about raising the female gender above men. If you read any of the original feminist literature, many were hoping that they could eventually live in a world without men. At the time of the first wave IFV was just starting to become a possibility and more than a few Feminist authors wrote a lot of fiction in this vein.

So in the case of feminism, I would say that the ideology shaped the movement which has further shaped the ideology. For instance the creation of "safe spaces" meant that most feminist conversation happen in situations where the other side's views will never be explored. If you've been a reddit user for any length of time, you know how bad moderation can turn any public forum into an echo chamber that only serves to amplify one particular narrative.

My political values are on the far left, so many people in real life get confused when I explain that I oppose most of Feminism as an egalitarian. Most of the time it leads to an interesting discussion.

My mother burned her bra in her 20's, she went to marches, she read feminist fiction. When I was young, she read to me every day. By the time I was 4 we had conquered some pretty interesting books. She didn't worry too much about the content because every page became a conversation. Then one day she read one of her favorites from her late teens. She didn't realize the underlying hate written into that book, until she had to explain to me why those women "hated boys like me so much".

I guess all I'm getting at is that if you want equality there are better banners to fly under than feminism.

[–]The3liGator 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with you, but I have two points of contention which is the generalization. Feminist movements have potential allies, and the generalization just pits us against each other because of assumptions that are made.

Second, safe spaces exist whether we like them or not, but the term safe space just caught on in conservative circles because it was the term used by colleges

Just out of curiosity, how far left are we talking?

[–]RemCogito 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

If you can find a feminist movement that is even willing to acknowledge that men have issues, let alone willing to protest with us on those issues, I will happily call them my ally. The issue is that in most feminist theories that I've read, the root of all problems is the "Patriarchy" which supposedly privileges us above them.

Which we both know isn't the whole story. That gender issues negatively impact both men and women. I also have a problem with how the feminist movement generally treats Trans individuals. I have friends that were ostracized for their transition in those same "Safe Spaces". Terms like "gender traitor"(FtM) and being told "you'll never be a real woman" (MtF)

Now as to my political alignment, it can be hard to really describe any value system by a specific label. I live in a conservative part of Canada, Most people I know would consider me left of them.

I think that all power of the state is derived from the individuals in society and as such should exist to serve the entire society. I believe all members of society should all have the same rights and responsibilities.

Some things that I agree with:

  1. I think that society owes all its members a basic living. If there is enough food for all, no one should be hungry due to poverty. (Whether that is done by UBI, or other social programs, I don't care, I have the ability to work for a lucrative living, what matters is that everyone's basic needs are taken care of.)

  2. Healthcare should be covered by taxes. This isn't really a left/right thing in Canada though. You can't shop around if you're bleeding out. Since market forces can't apply, it just makes sense to be a government service.

  3. Education should be free. A highly educated populace has a lot more value than an less educated one. Barriers to education are also huge barriers to social mobility, which should be minimized wherever possible.

  4. Anyone working full time should be able to afford a place to live of their own.

  5. I think that corporations are not people. They are a legal fiction allowed by the government to remove some of the liability of doing business from the people doing business. They have no inherent value beyond whatever the people working for them produce. If they break the law, Dissolve the company, jail those responsible appropriately. The people who actually make that value are still there and the market will change to fill the gap, so they won't be out of work for long.

I honestly think that unemployment benefits (or other social net) should pay more to allow for that last point.

Obviously that really only covers a few points, fairly vaguely.

The reason why I consider myself far-left is simply because I don't think we will ever reach an ideal, and that no matter what we accomplish we can probably do a better job of it in the future with what we learned.

Its the continual march of progress that I am looking for. Generational improvements to equality.

Edit: removed sentence fragment at the end.

gen z boys mad they cant oppress women like their fathers could

If you think most boys think that way, you're deluded. Most boys have no idea what their fathers could/couldn't do. Many of them don't have fathers to start with. They aren't interested in oppressing anyone, just surviving adolescence like girls are.

Now, if you'd said that many boys aren't old enough yet to see and understand the particular privileges and disadvantages that fall on them for being male vs. the particular privileges and disadvantages that fall on people who are female, I could agree with that.

Your boos mean nothing to me. I've seen what makes you cheer.

I’m sure many people in the 60s, and 70s also thought that the civil rights movement had gone too far allowing people of color equal rights.....

[–]je97[S] 33 points34 points35 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I don't think people in the 60s and 70s were seing policies actively designed to harm white people. We, however, are seing policies under the guise of 'feminism' that are actively designed to hurt men, whether it be all-female shortlists for elected offices, affirmative action to promote the educational progression of girls and the business progression of women at the expense of their male counterparts, judges granting longer jail terms to men as opposed to women, men coming out the loser in the overwhelming majority of custody battles, men being forced to register for a draft that puts them at risk of being sent off to war in order to receive fundamental rights... I could give you more examples but I think I've given you enough. Don't make silly comparisons, they make you look silly yourself.

[+]The3liGator -16 points-15 points-14 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Come on, dude.

People in the 60s and 70s absolutely claimed that policies helping black people would hurt white people. (For example: removing housing discrimination would tank property values)

Not saying that that's what's happening here, but they did make those claims and were partially right

[–]je97[S] 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Treating people equally is not a discriminatory policy.

Now it's on you, since it's you making the comparison, to tell me how the multitude of governmental, corporate and educational policies I pointed out are making things equal. I look forward to hearing you explain to me all about how giving longer jail terms to men rather than women, affirmative action that disadvantages men compared to women, selective service etc makes the two groups equal. It should be a fun read.

[–]birdsdonotsleep -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists actually pushed for the Equal Rights Amendment, which would get rid of selective service and make men and women indistinguishable under the law. Then anti-feminists pushed back and now here we are.

[+]The3liGator -9 points-8 points-7 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Treating people equally isn't discrimination, but that doesn't mean that people can always tell the difference

It's not on me, because I'm not a feminist, but it is still stupid to conflate the objectives of an ideology with the methodologies of organizations

Feminists come in different forms, and they often disagree. And not all feminist organizations are neo-liberal "girl power" type feminists

[–]je97[S] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So which modern feminist movements are objectively about 'equality?'

[+]The3liGator -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's an impossible task, and you know it. The measurement of equality is entirely subjective unless everybody lives as exactly the same person and has the exact same life

It's subjective, just like the idea of men"s leagues and women's leagues in sports. Is it discriminatory or equal? There is no right answer

[–]je97[S] 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Since I believe in equality, I'm in favour of paying female athletes the same proportion of the money there is in the sport.

However, you're right on one thing: equality isn't objective. Unfortunately, there are feminists whose subjective definition of 'equality' means allowing courts to give longer jail sentences to men who have committed the same crime. That's not equality, that's discrimination.

[–]The3liGator -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly

[–]robert-5252 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don’t forget the famous “allowing people of color to get a education will allow them to educate themselves, thus strengthening them, which in return harms white people”

[–]Phiau -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that's squarely in Incel territory these days.

Complaining about equality bringing disadvantage to those in power is the stupidest thing ever. But jail times, custody agreements, assault charge and domestic violence assumptions by law enforcement all contain discriminating policies and behaviours against men.

The point was originally equality. Women should be permitted to do anything a man is permitted to do and to the same degree. And the same in reverse.

As soon as one group is actively suppressing another, it's no longer about equality.

Both sides currently have sensible people and extremists.

Men that don't want equality, are just as bad as women who scream rape at a breeze.

Lift each other up. Don't step on others to get higher.

Let me guess: the male half?

[–]Phiau 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The male half of boys?

Did you even read the whole title?

[–]GyrosSnazzyJazzBand -5 points-4 points-3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

From someone who's Gen Z I gotta disagree. Its judt the minority radicals who made femism look bad to the public. But

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can’t tell you how many angry women I’ve worked with in the last few years who really like dancing on men, and they aren’t radicals. I fear it’s more commonplace than just radicals. 😬

[+]nunyour_business -20 points-19 points-18 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's what happens when you discover "Ben Shapiro destroys blue haired feminist with facts over feelings compilation" when your 14 and slowly get indoctrinated because nobody thought to have the conversation with you about minoritys and discrimination when you were younger

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is what happens when you discover "50 questions for men by feminists" when your 14 and slowly get indoctrinated because nobody thought to have the conversation with you about equality and common fucking sense when you were younger

[–]birdsdonotsleep -5 points-4 points-3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What does comment even mean? I literally cannot understand what you are trying to say.

[–]nunyour_business -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Belive me i know i used to be best friends with that bitch you just described but, That's radical feminism, they claim to be feminists but real feminists don't claim them. So when my generation says feminism has gone too far we don't mean take women's rights away we mean stop inviting people who claim to be feminists into school to talk about "equality etc" when all they do is make sexist "jokes" and blame a bunch of little kids for something they had no part in just because they happen to identify as male (and don't get me started on the TERFS)

[+]Billzilla54 -21 points-20 points-19 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How the fuck did a men’s rights subreddit make it to the front page? Y’all are sad

[–]Jakeybaby125 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because this is a good thing. Men are finally waking up to the cancer that feminism is

[+]derk702 -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right!?

[+]Peeholepeter -24 points-23 points-22 points 5 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

How has it gone too far?

[–]skylarkeleven 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

"kill all men" "all men are rapists" "men can't be raped by women" "a society with 0 men is perfectly feasible" "if I got pregnant with a man I'd abort and you should too"

[+]Peeholepeter -15 points-14 points-13 points 5 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

That’s just a tiny part of feminism though. All the things you just listed suck, obviously, but a feminist is just a person who wants male/female equality. Hell, the majority of feminists would agree that the things you just said are awful.
