I wish I could say that were true, but I've had it happen enough times in real life that, at least for me, it's not just some internet thing

Edit: thinking about it, the main reason I'm even a part of subs like this is because I've seen how much men get fucked over, both within my family and without, and are constantly told how privileged and empowered they are.

It's ironic because I grew up with divorced parents but it was completely amicable. My mom didn't ask for too much from my dad, and they were always on good terms and I was happy no matter who I was with.

Because of that I saw how terrible other people's divorces were and that pulled me into more men's rights stuff. Having seen what a pair of intelligent, reasonable people could accomplish I wanted that for other people too.

Dude, we have gender segregated gyms because women have lost their collective shits at the notion that men might even look in their direction. Men are labelled pigs, pervs or creeps for even looking at women, and can be accused of harassment or even sexual assault for even trying to approach women. Men who try to get women's attention on the street are labelled "cat-callers" and treated as the worse scum of the earth(it's totally fine when women do it though). Universities are championing "safe spaces" for women who feel threatened by basic male heterosexuality. Men who seek any type of solicitation from women are criminalized and slandered. Men who use sex toys are belittled and ridiculed. Men who are late virgins are berated, shamed and delegitimized, instead of encouraged or empowered. Men are labelled rapists when having consensual sex with women, because they had minor amounts of alcohol in their system or because they changed their minds after the fact. Men who express unrequited feelings for women are often slandered and vilified as being entitled, conniving or having "toxic masculinity", and often automatically assumed to be possessive, obsessed or dangerous despite all proof to the contrary because they are men. Men's fetishes are often viewed very negatively and treated with disgust. Men can't express any kind of appreciation for female sexual attributes without being labelled misogynists, objectifiers or oppressors of women. Terms like "the male gaze", are invented to further disenfranchise men and male heterosexuality. "Dick pics" are considered the most offensive, indecent, obscene and disgusting, if not criminal, thing a guy can send to a girl, but when women send nudes it's viewed as a gift, a pleasure or as a woman showing her devotion and vulnerability to a man(and if he disrespects that gift in any way, he's a horrible man).

There is nothing "sex-positive" about any of these things, and that's not even going into the fact that male sexuality is completely devalued compared to women's, or how we expect men to pay all these dues to even interact with women(taking the lead, being the instigator, paying in dating, one-sided relationships, etc), or all the practices that have come up over the centuries since Ancient Greece to desexualize men(like circumcision, which is still rampant in a lot of countries), or the complete lack of reproductive rights for men that are still considered the norm(with very few options pre and post sex being made available to men). We are sex-positive in a lot of ways(mostly for women) but society has also grown more hostile to male heterosexuality than it has probably ever been.

If you see one in whatever room you walk into/she walks into you can sometimes make eye contact and just smile, but that's if she notices you right away. If you're caught staring, instant no. If you see her out of the corner of your eye, slowly look her direction but past her. If you see her looking towards you or in your direction, slowly change your body language then you can go in for some more serious eye contact then checking her body out, in that order.

It sounds like a bunch of bull, I know, but it removes the feeling that a total stranger is just coming up out of nowhere, and that's pretty important, and also gives you a flirty vibe. You still gotta go up and talk to her though it's just good for getting some of the no's out of the way beforehand and gauging interest.

Lol yeah I'm planning to go crazy this summer as well. It would seem to me that in the overall continuation of a society, composed of men and women, it is in the overall interests of all Men and Women, that is, it further strengthens the overall bond between the two sexes and helps promote the greatest degree of societal flourishing, when there is little to no promiscuous sex, or sex outside of a committed relationship between the two partners. It serves to very little benefit, if any, for the Men and Women of a society to partake in noncommittal relationships between each other, and ultimately works to erode the existing bonds when such behavior becomes the norm. For Men and Women to "work together" they absolutely must trust each other, and in order to trust one another, they have to be, in some sense, "committed" to one another, without this commitment, it is very unlikely that the two genders will every fully trust the hidden intentions of the other.

Interesting point. However, this is a statement sounds like it's rooted in religion. I have heard similar arguments against gay sex. Look at today's societies that have the most sexually conservative behavior they are almost all Muslim. Sexual repression is damaging to society and those cultures that embrace sexuality are much better off. The "hidden intentions" is where you point to the problem but if sex wasn't viewed as this harmful dangerous event than people wouldn't feel the need to hide their intentions.

Being a slut is entirely relative and is viewed very differently depending on the culture. There are places where women are considered whites for not completely covering their body. Calling someone a slut is rude and immature. If a married couple is into some kinky shit and the husband likes watching his wife bang other dudes is she than a slut for doing it? This scenario has trust, commitment and honesty. Another scenario is a guy who bangs two girls at the same time. This will always be met with adoration. I have done it and all of my friends thought it was awesome. However, of a woman banged two dudes at the same time the reaction is very different.

Now it may be a turn off for you if a woman has had many partners but in no way does this mean she is a bad person who should be outcasted by society. That is silly. Having consensual sex as an adult is not harmful to society. In fact if you look to nature monogamy rarely evolves and in most cases evolves when the females are extremely territorial and distant from each other. This makes it difficult for the male to maintain two females leading to monogamy. Human monogamy is not the gold standard. Through out history it has been very normal for men to have multiple wives and concubines. This is a double standard for women and it's silly. I hate double standards and slut shaming. When Christianity was spreading across the globe they were converting people from pagan religions. On many of the pagan religions the belief was that there was a perfect life that one could live to please the Gods. Christianity was actually the antithesis of this belief. Paul went around preaching that they didn't have to please the gods, that there was only one God and he loves you. This idea was completely new in many cultures. As time went on the pagan belief that there was a perfect life that pleased God spilled into Christianity. This was the beginning of the dark ages which was caused by so many people trying to live the perfect Christian life. They moved into monasteries and did nothing but study the Bible and to avoid sinning. Then homeboy figured out that people should be able to read the Bible for themselves instead of having some priest interpret the Latin for them. This began the Protestant movement which leads us to today. So me in the Bible where it says to only have sex with your wife! It doesn't. Where does it say that you should wait until marriage to fuck? It doesn't. Where does it say to rape young virgins in the Bible: Judges 21:10-24, Numbers 31:7-18, Deuteronomy 20:10-14, and Zachariah 14:1-2.

I don't think that scientific advancement is the best measure of societal success. I would argue that quality of life is a much better measure. With all due respect man, I don't know exactly what you're talking about here. What scientific advancement? People learning the importance of controlling themselves sexually? Just so we're on the same page, I was just trying to say the "Field Of Science", like, all the various scientific pursuits like Biology, Chemistry, Astrology, they're all heavily influenced by Christian thinkers whose major motivations were to "Better understand God's creation." I'm saying that psychologically this "line of thinking" which is derived from a belief in a creator has given many men and women motivation to further their learning of the material environment we exist in. And some of THE greatest thinkers were all believers, with most at least believing in SOME kind of higher intellect. These occurrences are by no means isolated.

But for one specific scientific advancement? Honestly, I don't know of one specifically, I'm sure there's a butt load of em lol (Great vocab, I know ;) but knowing the field of science itself was largely influenced is enough. You can pretty easily see that by logically extending that out, by necessity, there's bound to be a number of scientific endeavors specifically influenced by a faith in a Creator.

Also, Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by a Christian Evangelist and is what helped sparked the fire that pushed all those men and women to fight the civil war and end slavery......so we also that one ;)

This is in no way a concise list of scientists but you can see that not very many of them are Christian.

Ah yes....but MOST of them fall under the category of "Believed in SOMETHING, or at least weren't so convinced there was simply nothing after death."! This may seem trivial, but it's not. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't exactly validate Christianity, but it does in some ways validate something. And that's really my point. Also, you're getting WAAAAAY too nuanced in selecting who does and doesn't count as a Christian. MANY people practiced more of a Natural Theology, or Agnostic Christianity in the past. They held the belief that God was up there, watching over, but that he personally interacted very little within the trivial tasks of day to day life. They weren't as 24/7 vocal about it like modern churches, but it was absolutely no question a staple to their life. Like drinking water lol. Everybody has to drink water to live, but, since it's a need, well, nobody really makes a "fuss" over it. It is what it is, and it's necessary to life, and that's cool! But yea, no reason to discuss it much more, go read about it in the big ol book of water, aka the bible. So the fact that you try to manipulate the data and make it appear as though Deism necessarily means not a christian, or not believing in the trinity also counts towards not being a christian just comes off as very insincere to me.

But, I think the most telling of all facts about history isn't so much over who was this or that religion, I think the most important fact is that MOST of them.....were at least some kind of religious, that is, they did NOT simply hold onto Atheism and go "Yup! this is right! No God! Party in the USA!!!" lol. That's not something one can easily pass over. We, human kind, has been MORE religious over our past than we have irreligious.....that's pretty damn interesting in my book. And something worth pondering over. Then again, if all you do is say "people are weak, they need control, yadda yadda yaddda", well then sure, you're gonna just play pretend that religion was their "opiate for the masses".

But then, you'll have to explain to me why the Bible CONSTANTLY tells Man that God is the SOLE higher power of authority and no other man that walks this earth is on the same footing as God the Creator? There are constant acts of defiance in the Bible to the institutional powers of their time. Jesus tells the pharisees to go suck a fat one and stop lying to his people. The bible teaches adherence to a law, yes, but adherence to WHOSE law? Mans.....or God's? And why the HELL would those "barbaric silly, dumb men"....write a holy book which says to follow God.....not Men?

That's something that still makes me wonder to this day. If control is what they wanted. They wrote the perfect book to create a population of people that no man on earth could ever completely control. Just something to think about.

Not for the influence of Christianity to science though, but rather, the influence of No God, to the destruction and living hell that was the 21st century, and many more millions of related deaths. That book won't persuade you to believe in God, but it will persuade, hopefully, to at least consider the evil that comes along with believing in No God.

Sorry you feel that way. I don't personally agree with your conclusions, I think that, at the end of the day, the #1 thing that turns anyone away from God is an unwillingness to admit who He is and who we aren't, that is, I think most people simply don't want to bow their heads to the True God of this universe and so out of spite, and hatred in their hearts, they turn from Him and His kingdom.

You're equating all women as being femenist, when that is totally not the case.

I've seen every form of abuse from all genders and sexualities. Men were always the meanest to me in high school.

Some have had mostly negative experiences with women and some mostly negative experiences with men.

I try to see all perspectives. That being said, the "men and women don't understand each other" trope is so old. I used to get mad that I have to be straight (turns out I'm not) because men and women live in completely separate worlds. And you know what, since being gay, none of that shit matters to me anymore. This struggle between men and women is largely due to the fact that you have to date each other, while simultaneously having very little clue how the other thinks. It's complicated even further when combined with the fact that even among men and women there is a large variation in psychological traits.

Fact is, most people think so differently and individualistically that generalizations are becoming harder and harder to make. It's easy to generalize about women, but can men generalize themselves without disagreement? Of course not, unless this subreddit only contains a subset of the male population that all think alike.

Women aren't going to change for men and men aren't going to change for women. Best you can do is sift through the large population and look for someone who shares similar perspectives.

Straight people really take it for granted the large dating pool they have. Like they should just be able to go to a bar and get laid easily. Our society is just too individualistic and disconnected by technology for that to be a reality. It takes time finding someone worth your while.

I mean, Cosmopolitan will print whatever the fuck they believe will earn them the most money, that goes without saying. But there's no shortage of genuine news sources unrelated to them which will gladly publish multiple opinion pieces simultaneously which are in direct ideological opposition to one another. That's just how real news agencies work.

Frankly, if every single piece of media coming out of a given organization maintains tight ideological consistence with everything else they've ever published, then you're not looking at a news source to begin with. I pointed out, in fairness, which I seem to be the only person here interested in, fairness, that the two articles were published by two different writers, two years apart, during the tenure of two different editors-in-chief.
