I normally do not comment in this sub, but this is relevant to me. A Facebook friend of mine posted this article on her wall with a title like "THIS" or something. I commented that this kind of thing does not help us work towards gender equality because it presupposes that men are somehow ok with rape- or at least not that concerned about it. I explained in detail how that is pretty offensive as several women in my life whom I am quite close to have been raped and that I absolutely find it disgusting. What happened next was a group of women all ganged up on me telling me that I was exercising my male privilege by feeling the need to comment on this and that it was not about me. I was actually told to sit down, shut up, and let the women speak for once. I tried to make it clear I was not trying to censor anyone, but I didn't appreciate how generalized the message was- it didn't matter to them. I got several nasty messages from girls I don't know telling me I was a piece of shit rape apologist for daring to speak on the matter.

I don't consider myself an MRA, but you can be sure that I was certainly not ready to call myself a feminist after that.

When i had a job that involved cleaning up the ladies room at a night club, I never had to pull rape off the bathroom wall and ceilings like I had to do with menstrual pads, but I'm sure I would have been just as disgusted if I had.

Also, that job taught me that drunk woman can be as disgusting, if not more disgusting, than men.

Both are disgusting in different ways. To even compare them is offensive to any real rape victims out there. Like the two are even in the same wheel house. No person in their right mind is thinking, "hmm, what is more disgusting... periods or rape?" Because that's not how people think.

You wouldn't tell someone who says peas are disgusting, "You think PEAS are disgusting!? IF ONLY YOU THOUGHT RAPE WAS AS DISGUSTING AS PEAS!" No one would compare peas to rape. Aside from your dumb ass.

Periods are compared to other bodily functions, like pooping, puking, peeing... maybe cumming and child birth as well. Sneezing... and whatever else there is.

Rape is a crime. The only thing it really compares to is child molestation. And while society does pick which one is worse, it doesn't actively compare them because both are horrendous and that's that. There's no point to debating things that only hurt people. [unless it hurts men and by extension boys, then there's some room for "debate"... ie; oppression Olympics begins]

Bodily functions are gross. Being natural doesn't mean it can't be gross and disgusting. Why women want 'acceptance' for their monthly bleeding is beyond me. No one wants to know about it, not because we're sexist, but because it's gross.

I don't want to know if someone had explosive diarrhea. No one wants to know about how much I came the last time I jerked off. No one wants to know about my pee, or anyone's pee. It's gross. Keep that shit where it belongs, in the privacy of your own home.

Why they are so insecure they need their unique grossness to be "beautiful" is beyond me. I can't remember men en mass expecting the world to find their cum beautiful or to say "Hey, our peeing is messing it's beautiful!"

Grow up ladies. Men don't need to find your periods "beautiful". They can find them gross. Get over it. I bet they find his farts gross, "but they're natural!" Ugh. No. People don't have to like them.

The only men who aren't disgusted/pissed off are the ones doing the raping. Men in general will fuck up other men who are accused of raping/hitting women. Remember that story of the guy facing attempted murder charges because he tried to shoot some men when his GF falsely accused them of rape. Feminist often so generalize women as much as they generalize men.

Perhaps not is as directly pointed and intentionally derogatory ways, but the manner in which the ideas of equality from some source branch of feminism have become warped into just another way of oppressing women is truly staggering to stand back and take in.

Take the wage wage for example: other than the Ken-Ham-esque rejection of rational inquiry, even when it comes down to matters of negotiation and preference, the yardstick of dollars is still held up and decried. People are saying that anyone who does not optimize for maximum salary must be flawed. Similarly, there are very selective cries for representation in certain job roles, based solely on the high pay rate of those sectors, while job centers for the poverty classes are entirely ignored. There's a great piece I read somewhere that stated it as, "the liberation of women is being harnessed to the engine of capital accumulation".

A similar effect comes up all the time with issues of sexualization, exposure to sexual material and situations. I've seen it referred to as neopuritanism, and examples abound where an arbitrary ideal is held against women more than men.

When I mention this take on things AFK, the response is incredulity, rage, dismissal, the works. I know it sounds silly to say, but I really to believe that 10 years from now, Laci Green or her ilk that is at the forefront of this will be championing exactly the above reflection.

Someone smarter than me should write that up into a whole article. Although, I probably just picked up those ideas from reading it somewhere else, and have forgotten the source. Really what needs to happen is that whole idea needs to be compressed down into a single political catechism tweet with a semi-inflammatory hashtag. Because apparently in this day and age, people's minds can only consume intellectual datagrams of 140 characters maximum.

Most men understand that periods are part of female reproduction, are normal and are not disgusted by periods at all. It's some psychologically-damaged females who are disgusted by this common functionality of their own biology. Some females attempt to transfer this disgust and self-deprecation in and of themselves onto Men in a feeble attempt to feel better about themselves, which inevitably fails because of their psychosis., and the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with men to begin with.

I think rape culture exists (more precisely termed, it would be called "rape tolerance culture"). It's not ubiquitous, nor is it equally represented in all terrain across the nation, but manifests itself as light sentencing for rapists (compared to other serious crimes), denying rape statistics, denying certain forms of rape as rape, making light of rape in jest (this is particularly common in regard to prison rape), and the mistreatment of persons reporting rape.

NO... not all (or even most) men are potential rapists (meaning "harboring a hidden propensity to rape, above the norm, when compared to life-long ethical persons"), and YES... generalizing about all men IS sexist (and not particularly good PR)... but MRA's should probably consider that the other side is not blowing smoke regarding all that they claim regarding rape culture.

EDIT: this is one of those kinds of comments I knew would inevitably get downvoted here. What I wish I could learn was how many, if any, upvotes occurred (obviously overwhelmed by the downvotes).
