I think the problem is that when you hear it said OFTEN it becomes accepted.

My niece who is the SWEETEST girl in the world. I mean she is amazing. She's the most ethical and kind person I've ever met.

Anyway... she regularly makes some statements like "all men are dogs".

I've gotten her to understand it by rephrasing things.

If this said "All black people are dogs" ... it would CLEARY be marked as bigoted and unacceptable.

Heirarchical pack mentality DOES exist within many men to some degree or another.

Then again, the same is true about women. Read "Queen Bees And Wannabes" for proof. If men are dogs, women are bitches. The difference is principally window dressing, combined with the fact that for men the heirarchical-pack-mentality is specifically gendered (whereas with women it isn't).

That said, books like this are annoying as all hell. First they single out one specific gender as the "problem" and perpetuate the "sugar, spice and everything nice vs. slugs, snails and puppy-dogs tails" stereotype. Second, they treat every member of a specific sex as the same. "Individuality? What's that?"

Really I wish they would treat boys/men as well as they treat puppies/dogs.

If dogs were treated the way most men are, they'd become dangerous. The constant shifting of goalposts, the contradictory demands, the lack of appreciation, the instant abandonment for imperfections they can't help and general mixed signals are all a certain way to turn a dog into a dangerous threat to people.

It's a great credit to men that they are as peaceful as they are given their circumstances.

There was actually an interesting Sandra Dee movie that incorporated a dog training book with "training" your husband. She followed all the tricks in the book and life seemed to improve for the couple. In the end, though, she realized that she wasn't training her husband--she was training herself. Turns out she needed to learn how to better interact with her husband to get her wants and needs across.

Maybe this book is another weird feminist book, but then again, it might be something similar to "If a Man Answers".

This is an offensive, destructive book at every level.

It's destructive for men, for reasons which should be obvious: it's nothing more than a continuation of the "girls good, boys bad" narrative which is already crippling boys in education and condemning millions of young men to a life of limited opportunities.

But it's extremely destructive for women too, perhaps even more so. Books like this teach them that other people are little more than animals, and that they themselves are superior in every respect. The closest this comes to compassion is the desire of the "superior" being to elevate the animal beyond its brute instincts, out of kindness.

A horrible, vile book that damages everyone who touches it.

I have a feeling that if the book were called "Girls are Dogs", or something to that effect, many pressure groups would be calling for it to be censored.

Personally, I don't advocate any kind of censorship. If someone wants to write a book with a title to such effect, then fair enough, and to be fair, it's not like I've even read the book. That said, I doubt it would be received the same way if it had a hyperbolic title that mentioned girls to such an effect.

This isn't an issue. As AdultNovelty pointed out, it really isn't very sexist, it just has a name that implies that. Plus, even if it were, is this subreddit really devolving to the point of posting the tiniest perceived problem? This dillutes the actual issues down, and posts like this make the MRA movement seem childish and irrelevant.
