Sexual selection is not perfect. It selects things that are attractive and the reason something is attractive doesn't have to be sound.

The peacock tail is basically just a handicap for the peacock that impresses the female. If male peacocks didn't have those tails they would be healthier, they would be harder to spot for predators, they would have an easier time escaping predators etc...

Basically, the only purpose of the tail is to show the females that their genes besides the tail must be great because how else could they survive with such a shitty tail otherwise?

A lot of the traits you're talking about aren't important to humans and you can see that very clearly when you compare humans to other animals.

Relative to other animals of our size, humans are extremely weak, extremely slow physically and intellectually*, less confident, less daring, more safety oriented etc..

But a particularily interesting comparison would be between humans and Neanderthals because their core strategy was similar enough to us that the same things mattered to their success and they were faster, stronger, smarter, more daring etc... but we still outcompeted them. I have my explanation but I'd like to know why you think we outcompeted the Neanderthals despite being worse in a lot of the traits you think are so important to humanity.

Sexual selection is basically all about relative success within your specie. The problem with relative success is that all that matters is that you're better than others and you can be better than others in a bunch of ways that are a net negative for your specie. By example: You don't actually need to be smarter if you can just kill the people smarter than you while they sleep. If you do that enough you will become the smartest person but the average intelligence of your specie will go down.

That example is very direct. In practice people are more subtle about it but a more subtle example makes things harder to understand for no real reason.

Humans are basically the only specie that fought back against the unfairness of nature itself instead of just taking it. You're right that men should man up...but that means we should behave like humans that don't bow down to nature not act like all the other animals.

I respect and agree with that statement. Too many people are too content to sit around doing nothing, and then complain when life doesn't move mountains to give them everything they want.

You have to ask yourself, "Would you date you?" And honestly, critically ask it of yourself. A lot of guys would never tolerate a person like themself, yet expect women to.

If you want something of meaning in life you have to earn it. You don't deserve anything just by existing. And I have to agree with the sentiment that that's a good thing. Get in the ring and prove why you should be given a chance.

Except that now women have unfair advantages in the form of government help. To make it fair we need to stop the government from enabling women to make bad decisions.

We need to end government housing which is really only for single moms. We need to stop child support and alimony. That way women will also have to choose responsibly. The problem here is that this isn’t how things work in practice. We all know that 80% of women are exclusively attracted to the top 20% of men; however, few of those women will actually get access to the top 20%, and even fewer still will successfully nail one of them down.

So that leaves a lot of women who will never get with the elite men they believe they are entitled to; obviously, they don’t remain celibate and perennially single - instead, they “settle” for one of the 80% of men they believe to be beneath them.

Left to their own devices, women would indeed pick “only the best men”, but there aren’t enough of them to go around, and that’s why ‘Beta Male Providers’ still go on to date/form relationships/start families, albeit with women who resent them and it invariably ends in acrimonious divorce.

I don't understand how someone can reasonably say "hypergamy" even works, let alone exists for most women. Believe it or not, I touch grass and I see all kinds of trash holding hands together.

I remember vividly my friends on the basketball team making a list of the girls they would never touch within a 5 foot pole. Do you live in some fantasy world where every girl can just wantonly pick the hottest guy on the block?

Most of the guys in my grade selectively chose to chase after pretty girls. And I think thats a problem with a lot of men. When they say "women" only go for the top ten percent, they just mean the hot girls don't like them.

Go outside, stop looking at rage bait tik tok, and look at your average couple. Your average college girl isn't getting flown out to Dubai to be the 7th wife of some millionaire computer tech bro. She is stuffing her face full of shitty ramen and dating the sociology bro in her class.

Only a subset of western women has had the privilege of choice and not even for the whole of a century, if ever, we’ll see the results in the next generations.

Anyway, it would be an interesting experiment to see what would society look like if physical attraction was the leading factor of mating choices.

Ancient Greeks conflated beauty and virtue in the term “καλοκαγαθία” (being beautiful AND good). We know very well that there’s no correlation between the two: many more handsome thugs would have reproduced, many ugly but stellar scientists might not have ever been born.

I will be long dead, but I am genuinely curious to see where society will be a couple generations from now

Interesting post. Improve yourself and your life as much as possible. But take great care to not become a slave in the process; continue to be your authentic self. Become the best version of your authentic self. Or, if you're really lost, try to find it in the first place.

If you think about it, the onus is on us men to prove ourselves to women. The problem is that our modern lifestyle has put us in a position where we can't. Our fathers and grandfathers didn't need self-improvement because they already had their shit together. This is not a great point of view. Hypergamy results in everyone being unhappy, and most people not being able to be in a satisfying relationship. Its an extremely bad system if you want the human race to not die out.

The current dating world, where 80% of women go after the top few % of men is a good example on why its a terrible system. Birth rates are plummeting everywhere. People are having less relationships and far less sex than ever before. If hypergamy was a good thing for the human race, it wouldn't be getting results like this.

Attraction or lack of it is natural and people don’t owe you sex because they’re “in your league.” Most people want outside their league and that’s okay. They might not get it but they don’t have to lower their standards.

Also. I see a lot of guys use the “natural order” to say it’s normal that men are polyamorous. But they ignore that the men in old societies were polyamorous because they were takin all the chicks from everyone else. Only the mega super handsome rich strong dudes got girls.😭

Now. I do n0t think we should be a polyamorous society. And I don’t think everyone should expect to date a 10/10. We are intelligent enough to make choices for our society that go against the “natural order.” But attraction will always exist and nobody is entitled to a relationship.

If a questionable looking individual with no other particularly desirable traits says “I’m only dating a 10/10” don’t yell and tell them that they “MUST” lower their standards. Let them be picky. Who cares. They probably won’t be able to pull a 10 unless they have an angelic personality (if they’re only dating “perfect 10s”, they don’t.) but WHO CARES. Let them be alone forever if that’s what they wanna do.

Who cares if someone’s standards are unrealistic- if they can’t pull their standard, it’s not your problem.

If nobody in your “league” wants to date u, you aren’t entitled to any dates anyways.

Sex is a privilege not a right. Nobody should have to lower their standards for you.

Hypergamy itself is okay.

For last few hundred (thousands) years, people were discouraged from cheating on their partners or leaving them. This happened but wasn’t good thing. Fooling around before marriage also happened but wasn’t encouraged.

Now it’s different. People of both genders are encouraged to increase their experiences. And cheating on a husband is empowering.

Because of that, people often stick with their partners until they will get bored or find new better opportunity.
