This shit happens a lot on my commute to work, I don't mind it on the train because it's only like a 5 minute ride to my connection, but on the bus that takes longer it's just annoying to see everyone standing with at least two more seats with someone's bags on them, if I'm able to keep my backpack on my lap or at my feet, then you should be able too as well. The bus also has racks to put bags on that go unused by people like this.

Women aren't the only ones that put their bags in an empty seat next to them — I'm plenty guilty of this. I actually see nothing wrong with it, provided you understand it's a far higher priority for someone's ass to be in that chair vs my backpack/briefcase. I've personally never run into someone who refused to move their bag so I could sit down. Though, I understand those assholes exist — both male and female, and I haven't seen any data to show women are any more guilty than men. I'm also 6'5" and muscular, so people are generally less likely to say "no" when I ask them to move a bag/purse/briefcase taking up a last remaining seat.
