I was talking to two coworkers at lunch today. One said she plans to essentially join her finances with her now-fiancé as soon as they get married. And she will just have “fun money” of her own. I spoke up and advocated for her to have her own savings, too. She said no, she doesn’t see the point. Because even if there was a divorce, the money would be half his, anyway. So legally there is no money that is really hers. I could tell from the way the convo was going she would have a conniption fit if I said “prenup” (though I should have, because she said they already had a fight about budgeting and it was a “big point of contention” for her fiancé. Lol good luck with that sis)

The other coworker just agreed and said, that’s what I am doing. She said she noticed how much her spending went down as soon as she got onto a credit card with her bf who she lives with and shops and cooks for, and they started splitting the bill for all shared household and food expenses. She had not realized just how often she was the one paying for cat food and cleaning supplies. Bet you he fucking realized it.

Always. Always. Have your own money and that he does not know about.
