I hope she feels these feelings for what they are (temporary and understandable) and doesn't lower her standards for her manipulative soon to be ex. He's leveraging everything to get her to perform as a pick-me, and yes 'lots' of women will vye for the spot, but make no mistake- that man will never be happy till he has a VR game he can turn on and off and a personal robot maid (that can be plugged into the VR game). That's all he used her for and all he complained about not getting -let him go, he's only easy going about this now -take advantage and get it done quickly and in your favor and in a rock solid custody agreement. Also he's probably already started to cheat and that's why he's so confident atm

[–]queenofswordsxxxFDS Newbie 215 points216 points217 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Lots of women will vye for the spot but these women aren’t quality women. They’re LV pickmes.

Water finds its own level.

I love that saying about water, it’s so simple and clear

Some women will drown in the shallow end of things

[–]Some-Air9442FDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mathematically I do not think that can be true.

  1. There are more men than women in absolute terms;
  2. There are more men than women at younger ages (up to like 55 or so, depending on the country and the shape of the population pyramid);
  3. Women who are pregnant or nursing or taking care of small kids are probably not on the dating circuit;
  4. Older women who are widowed/divorced/etc. seem to not have any interest in finding a man.

I just don’t see how it can add up. What am I missing?

[–]Some-Air9442FDS Newbie 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Uhhhhh…ok wait. You ladies are gonna have to educate me a bit. Are there really tons of women lining up for a middle aged absentee dad?

I know lotsa guys in or adjacent to that category and they’re all single.

[–]TikiTikiTata-chalalaFDS Newbie 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Haha, yes and no. It's more of he thinks he'll get a lot of attention but he won't really get much.

Most women judge father's based on how they parent their kids and most divorced women don't want to touch those absentee fathers with a 39.5 ft pole. Now he can still be that creepy guy who tries to groom younger women, or settles for a pick-me to string along, but realistically she's gonna move up and he's gonna move down in the dating market.

I dunno, I think it’s gonna be pretty hard for him, unless he looks like a model or has some secret millions 💰.

Chances are he’s gonna come crawling back to you and it won’t be pretty.

“that minor ask was oppressive for him” - THIS.

How many times have we asked for the bare minimum and watch men complain about this being oppressive?!

We’re exhausted and rightfully so.

[–]samara37FDS Newbie 257 points258 points259 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most men are not empathetic enough to understand what a woman goes through to have children and how hard child rearing is. From afar they will bark orders and raise the expectations without ever walking in our shoes. My husband did it and I didn’t think he would. I’ve seen most of the woman I know go through the same although I’ve known a couple of woman who had husbands who do more than they do.

[–]MamaGiaFDS Newbie 150 points151 points152 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

In the past I was verbally abused, called a bitch, useless cunt, helpless cunt, etc etc when I asked my male spouse to clean up after himself.

Men are disgusting and entitled.

[–]WafflesTheDuckFDS Newbie 89 points90 points91 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's the thing. They refuse to even just clean up after themselves . Just drop their shit on the floor like a child.

[–]BrightIdeaGeneratorFDS Newbie 42 points43 points44 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ugh. Remembering my father making a ham at my house once, and you know the plastic bag it comes in with all the meat juices?? He just threw it ON THE FLOOR. The trash can was in an awkward place in that kitchen, but he knew where it was and it would have only been a few steps away. I pointed to it and told him uh huh, you aren't leaving that on MY floor! Pick it up. He rolled his eyes and acted like I was being dramatic but he did it, after I had to yell at him. Disgusting pig.

[–]bookworm1896FDS Newbie 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Woah, the audacity to throw trash on the kitchenfloor just because he is too lazy to take it to the trash can. And besides that he does not just place the bag on the kitchen counter ( for someone else to throw it away), no he even throws it on the floor?! I get really angry about people littering on public spaces, but inside a house?! That's a whole new level!

[–]BrightIdeaGeneratorFDS Newbie 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well he was plain evil and abusive in lots of ways. But for some reason that one memory really sticks out to me. The total lack of respect shocked me, and then acted like I was being ridiculous! He might have been fine living in filth, but I wasn't.

[–]TechnusgirlPickmeisha™️ 188 points189 points190 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I feel really bad for her. Wanting a divorce simply because your partner just wants you to help a little around the house without being a total entitled douche about it seems extremely childish. I think she should go for the divorce and stop feeling sorry for herself. Sure, he can probably get a pick me girl, but even the pick me girls get fed up with their BS after a while.

Who knows, maybe he'll learn what a raging, entitled child he was after she leaves his sorry ass.

This type of behavior I hear all the time from moms. I have been a single mom myself for 18 years and I was terrified of getting pregnant again and was way more responsible with my fertility after I had her. I'm about to turn 39 and I don't want any more kids. If I were to somehow magically get married before menopause hits me, I'm still not having kids. Even when you think you can trust and rely on your partner, they have always let me down and so many other women I know when it comes to raising children.

[–]BxGyrl416FDS Newbie 61 points62 points63 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is why I’m baffled why so many women think reproducing is the end all and be all of womanhood. It’s not. Your story and the woman’s story in the post is too common. In addition to holding down a full-time job, we’re then expected to cook, maintain the home, and care for the children. I don’t see how anybody could voluntarily sign up for that. It’s as if they think that they’re the exception, this this time things will be different. Women give up way too much and receive very little in return from child bearing.

[–]BarbwireBootsFDS Newbie 28 points29 points30 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Amen. My comment may border on victim-blaming but as a woman who has always known I would not have biological children (by choice) due to the physical changes it has upon the body plus the commitment of giving a child the kind of care one is due from a parent’s choice to bring a sentient consciousness upon this very flawed earth, I wonder why some women put themselves in a position to be so vulnerable by having a child, more than one, or back-to-back, rendering them exhausted and physically diminished until they’ve healed properly. Especially if after one child her partner has already demonstrated neglectful or abusive characteristics.

I suppose it is also smug to say “If I knew this, why didn’t you?” Being with LV and NVMs only solidified my stance on this. I witnessed enough deadbeatery just from those relationships. Having a baby with any of them would have been a disaster.

The irony is, I love kids. I worked in an elementary school. I chit chat with every child who passes by me at work. I love them enough to not bring any more into the world.

[–]ceramicunicornFDS Disciple 521 points522 points523 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This is what always scared me about being an incubator for having kids with a man. I would really like to see more women wake up to this, and be in solidarity with each other, like a union. That’s the only way to collectively raise standards.

[–]MixWideFDS Newbie 197 points198 points199 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My SIL is currently going through a divorce from a man who is beneath her in pretty much every way, but of course she is beating herself up for not being able to do more, to manage things "better," to make the father of her children act like a decent human being, etc.

And what it really got me thinking about is how much I wish I'd been there for her more in recent years. If I could have been more of a presence, more of a voice backing her up and reminding her that she's not being unfair or bitchy by having basic standards or expecting fundamental respect, maybe it would have helped her know it was okay to leave sooner. He broke down her self-confidence so much, and it's fucking tragic because she's so damn impressive but all she's been hearing is criticism from her supposed partner.

Having kids can be so isolating for women, even under the best of conditions, because suddenly everyone expects your world to revolve around a baby or toddler and any spare seconds you are left with are seen as belonging to your husband. Great way to cut women off from other women during a particularly vulnerable time.

[–]katiekat0214FDS Newbie 67 points68 points69 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So much this. I knew from single digits I did want to marry, and never wanted kids. From childhood, I owned my selfishness: why YES, I do want to be number one to my spouse, and he to me, with no kids to come between us... and if we do get divorced (happened the first time), BIG no thanks to living in poverty while he flounces off to do his own thing. So, to that end, I got my education, made sure I had a career, not just a series of jobs, learned how to invest even though it scared me, and took care of me first. I did marry happily the second time, and it worked out, but he still died way too early. Life happens. You have to be prepared.

[–]Apprehensive_Ad_7917FDS Newbie 325 points326 points327 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I want women to realize that if a man refuses to step up for you and work towards real equity in your relationship, the next woman isn’t getting a prize. He’s not going to make any woman happy, even if she lies to herself that she is, because men don’t actually want women who are pushovers. Show me a man with a stay-at-home bang maid and you’ll see a man who resents his partner and is either already cheating or planning to with a more interesting woman. I’ve spent my whole life dodging men with wives they resent.

[–]queenofswordsxxxFDS Newbie 138 points139 points140 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. He won’t change for the next girl. If anything he’ll probably feel more entitlement and therefore double down on the bad behaviour. Exploiting her further by making her carry all the weight.

[–]Apprehensive_Ad_7917FDS Newbie 122 points123 points124 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yep! Those women are also in for a world of hurt if they don’t submit to his demands because we live in a patriarchy. A patriarchy devalues care tasks, so women who pursue them are in a very vulnerable position if they decide to leave. Even if the woman has a job, if you have a male partner who refuses to pull his weight with the kids and in the home, he is stealing money from your pockets as you cut back on hours and dedicating time to your career. MRAs screech about how that’s their choice but we all know that most men don’t care if their kids show up somewhere dirty without shoes on and women are the ones society blames for it.

[–]cml678701FDS Newbie 73 points74 points75 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This! Men don’t care about housework or caretaking, so they think it’s easy and inconsequential…but guess who gets blamed…the woman! My ex saw no value in a housewife, because his own standards for cleanliness were super low. He insisted that if we ever got married, I’d have to work because feminism, although I am fortunate enough to have family money to fall back on. I did all of the cleaning and housework on top of a full time job, and he expected that to continue if we had kids. He had no clue how much work went into keeping the house decent, but I had to do it, because 1) I cared about living in a clean environment and 2) people judged me when the house was dirty, although we both worked full-time. Even his mom came over one time unannounced, got mad at me because one area of the house was a mess, and said that Jesus wanted me to clean up after him, even though I didn’t make the mess, and we both work full-time! The woman is ALWAYS the one blamed for a dirty house. Men won’t even be supportive in any way, whether than means helping out, hiring a cleaning service, even acknowledging the work that goes into cleaning, etc. And the woman always loses, either by scaling back her career, or just being 200% exhausted all the time!

I know a guy who, a month into dating his new girlfriend, was telling coworkers he planned to cheat on her. Openly told me he didn't expect the relationship to last and planned to be back on the hookup scene in 5 years.

He proposed to her later that year, after months of quarantine dating due to Covid.

[–]palczoFDS Newbie 62 points63 points64 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the long run it doesn't really matter if the next woman is more interesting. In the beginning, yeah, he will be showing her off and praising her for what a fantastic and interesting human being she is and so on, but in the end he will bring her down to his level of unhappiness and resentment (or at least try his best to do that). Unless she sees through his BS and escapes the madness...

[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 52 points53 points54 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I could've written this comment. I've never had more overt and aggressive interest than from married men who resented their wives. It's insulting and sad.

[–]AmeliaEmiliaEmmaFDS Newbie 47 points48 points49 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is what helped me through my worst breakups- imagining all the annoying, low-effort crap other girl is going to deal with. Sadness over breakup quickly moved to “thank god that’s not my problem anymore.”

[–]Feral_Housewife_FDS Newbie 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is exactly correct. I just feel bad for the poor women these guys end up with when their poor, long suffering wives leave.

[–]23eggzFDS Newbie 45 points46 points47 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is so true. Even when my standards were low, that never stopped me from longing for more. Just because I said I didn't need flowers, that didn't stop me from fantasizing about getting them.. and from being internally disappointed when I saw other people receive this treatment but not me.

Thanks to FDS I realized the only way I will ever get more is if I won't settle for less.

[–]akashyaboaFDS Newbie 100 points101 points102 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is one of the reasons why I would never date a dad. I doncare how the relationship ended, I don't care if the wife was actually mean, not my problem. And anyway, they can always find someone else, just not me.

He's got to be pretty fucking bad if a woman dumps a man when the kids are under 10.

[–]Feral_Housewife_FDS Newbie 100 points101 points102 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope she realizes that even as a "bitter, disfigured hag" she will be a lot happier without this dickbag. And if she wants there are men out there who are willing to step up to the plate, even for a single mother. I would know, considering I'm also proudly a bitter, disfigured hag. 😁

[–]deadinsidelol69FDS Newbie 88 points89 points90 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Quite a large factor into why I choose not to have children is because men are notorious for never carrying their weight with kids and will leave the second things either get tough or she asks for anything of him.

[–]Davina33FDS Disciple 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same, not mention my health problems have made me vulnerable in the past. How much harder would it be with children? Women get the shitty end of the stick and I didn't want that.

Younger me was so beaten down exhausted from doing all the housework, yardwork and taking care of 2 kids up all night/in diapers[ come from a sexist background of : women do all the work while men " relax"] so much so that when my " presence " was required at a " classy" event I barely had any time and was too exhausted to do hair /makeup /outfit ect and my ex talked down to me about my appearance, calling me " plain". New me now says f you , you want me to look money , HELP me AND pay for it.

This hurts my heart. I hope the comments are kind to her. Who hasn't been there- asking for equality, which does require work? Being told they can't be bothered. Thank you for posting. Excellent reminder that we should vet hard and be relentless in our standards. Being alone is always preferable to being with a man who will say "We never go on bikerides" after you just birthed a fucking child.

This reminds me of those guys on OLD who insist they’re incompatible with women who don’t ride bikes or go mountain climbing every weekend. I always assumed they were short sighted and idiotic, and obviously that stuff would fall by the wayside when they have kids. Apparently some of these losers hold you to it indefinitely!

She said '' Because I'm allergic to dishwashing liquid'' (she is). She was going to get married so she had somebody to wash the dishes!! That's my girl.. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, but I don't actually think there are that many pick-me women who'd 'lap his shit up'. Like, the OP of that post just sounds insecure because her marriage just dissolved so she naturally thinks other women would desperately climb over themselves for her ex, but in truth I think most women grow out of their pick-me phase after their teens/early 20s. Like, middle aged divorcees aren't the kind of guys who get pick-mes who are out of their league, it's always 20 year old noncommittal fuckboys.

On the other hand, my neighbour's a woman (divorcee) who's been indefinitely dating this extremely low value guy (unemployed, mentally ill, middle aged, also a divorcee) so maybe it's a slim pickings thing for divorced people and she's right.

I’m late to this but I had a husband who would actually do housework but that was because he was terminally unemployed. But while I was working/raising the kids he became abusive - not enough attention on him! Then I got sick and he became more abusive because I was at home but physically unable to help with the cleaning. My point? Even when they do clean or care about cleanliness, they will still abuse you for it because it’s “women’s work”. Scrotes gonna scrote!
