Sort of a follow up to the earlier thread about women approaching men. Mainly a matter of curiosity on my part:

Under what circumstances, location, etc, are you generally feeling like it is best for men, who are total strangers, to approach you out of the blue? Like say at the gym, but only while you're taking a break between sets, at the grocery store, etc. Except bars/clubs -- that's too easy, and in my experience those only result in drunk hookups (though I'll admit my experience is limited on that one.)

And then of course, how do you like to be approached? Like say the guy just randomly complementing your jewelry (I personally have no idea how conversations are supposed to proceed from there, but whatever,) politely waving at you to get your attention while you're listening to music on your phone, maybe gently touching you (in an appropriate way.)

Basically, what best works for you in particular?

EDIT: Just to clarify: This isn't for me, and I'm not asking for advice. I don't cold approach. Ever. Where this is coming from is I was reading a few femcel sites (that came from banned former subreddits) and a common refrain I noticed was that many of them seem resentful that they aren't being approached. So that left me with a question (more of an academic nature): How are they wanting to be approached? I'd post to one of those but I get the impression that they really don't want any men posting to them (some state that outright, some don't really say anything about it but overall the posts are very anti-men,) so I'm respecting those boundaries. I thought maybe this would be a place where some of them would be that is also a place where men can post, but perhaps not as it seems many posting here are already in relationships.

EDIT2: One place this could tie back to me is I would approach them if I knew they were wanting to be approached, and one thing that was on my mind while I was reading those femcel sites was whether they're posturing themselves in a way that makes them unapproachable. They blame it on their appearance alone, but I really don't see that being the case. I've seen some pretty bad looking women (talking like disfigured due to injury or birth defect) in happy relationships.
