Ok I feel you and let’s extend this to any man who uses any person or character as their ideal and uses them as a personality crutch

For example…I’ve known two men in their late twenties who told everyone to call them “Batman.” 😬 pretty cringe. They both wore Batman shirts and accessories every day. One had the logo taped on his beater car. Both were very misogynistic and rude in general, getting amped up when they got to be weird in public.

Avoid these men, they’re children lol

ETA: the examples did not know each other. One lived in CA and the other in MI.

I know what you're saying, though. So many men love the Joker. It's a red flag along with hero worshipping parasitic billionaires, politicians, fighters and problematic celebrities.

I remember when all the clowns were rooting for what's his face from Breaking Bad. You don't see women looking up to Amy from Gone Girl.

Also, pay attention to how men talk about characters that are shitty (not in the Joker villain way, but in the asshole Andy from The Office way). Time and time again, when there's a male character that's easy to shit on, men will talk about how the writers ruined the character, how the asshole behavior is definitely out of character, actually. When it's a woman, they have no problem shitting on her.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I actually don't know all the intricate background story or every single story arc of the Joker.

That said, even before I ever consciously thought about why, men who really like the Joker have always been a very red flag to me. I am not saying it's necessarily weird to like a 'villain'. But from what I know about the Joker he's kinda just this wEirD quIRky edgy guy who commits random acts of violence for fun. He abuses Harley Quinn non stop. And then in that last movie they tried to make him somewhat sympathetic by claiming his environment and society made him into what he is. Of course, any bitter angry guy is gonna love identifying with that. Being randomly violent and abusive and just sooo edgy while getting the excuse that this is just what someone made you? That's incel 101. Just look at Jared Leto for example and the kinds of shit he did when he got too much into his role, that's exactly what these guys are like.

Men who glorify the joker are losers. The joker is not even a compelling character. He just appeals to the loser and abusive mentality that many men have.

Not really a villain, but men who love Deadpool are a hard no.

And male villains are just lazily written. Take any random bald guy and put him in some remote location and you've got a villain. They're nothing to aspire to.

Other characters that come to mind are Leonardo Di caprio's character from wolf of wall street, Scarface aka Tony Montana, Scrotes from Stoner movies like Pinneapple Express, and damn near any rapper past and present.

Rap music especially has so much misogyny and sadly many rappers are especially notorious for saying disparaging things about Black women from their own communities. The term "Pick me" when I first heard it was actually from a very small online community of Black women years ago that were hitting back at the culture of abusing Black women sanctioned largely and influenced by especially black male rappers .

I knew a couple who adopted the joker/Harley aesthetic as their entire life and it was super bizarre. First…it’s really unoriginal. Second…that’s a hella dysfunctional relationship your idolizing there Third….develop your own personality instead of stealing one from a comic book.

They broke up and of course she came out with a bunch of stuff about how abusive he was which off course is not ok…but we all saw that comin.

I had a NVM ex who seemed kind of sweet and sensitive deep down, but actively disliked that part of himself. He always watched movies about absolutely horrible characters, openly glorifying them and saying, “this dude is so terrible! He did X, Y, and Z. He is so cool!” He was just a broken person, honestly. He had the potential to be an amazing guy if he had wanted to be, but for some reason he hated the thoughts of that. He had deep anger towards women and society, also. He was a former frat boy who seemed very jealous and resentful that his hottest fellow frat brothers could use and abuse 10’s. He wanted to be this horrible person, when he could have just embraced his actual sweet nature, found a great woman, and had an amazing life. I doubt he will ever see the light, though.

Yes!! Who are their “heros”? (Are they actual heroes who did good things for humanity? Or are they athletes or billionaires who hoard their wealth and cheat/beat their wives? Are they all men, or do they also have women they look up to such as a relative, political figure or business woman?) What are their favourite movies? (What are the underlying themes of the movie and what do they like about it? IE fight club - do they like that the main character was a sick and violent individual who wanted to watch the world burn because he felt like a failure? Or does he recognize that the work is actually a satirical criticism of modern toxic masculinity?)

I've posted about this before, but honestly, I think anyone who glorifies a villain or an anti-hero is just an idiot.

Take most of the classic gangster movies and TV series. I adore The Godfather and enjoy The Sopranos, but I couldn't care less about the mafia aspect. They're masterful character studies, and I like them because they show the corrosive nature of violence. They also show how the characters' misogyny is tied to their sociopathy. Michael Corleone and Tony Soprano are bad people, and the way that they treat women reflects that. By the end of both stories, the main characters have been completely annihilated, if not literally then certainly in every way that matters. Michael Corleone and Tony Soprano both lose.

But then you have hordes of chuckleheads online who gush about how Tony Soprano is so badass, yeah he beat that guy down, he has hot women on the side, etc., etc. These fanboys are literally too stupid to understand what Tony's story arc means. It's so cringey. Definitely, if I met someone who idolized these characters -- or others in the same category, like the Joker -- it would be a huge red flag.
