100% yes. Apparently there's a compound called WIN 18446 that makes men infertile with almost no side effects and you become fully fertile again when you stop taking it.

The only side effect: It also makes you unable to metabolize alcohol fully, so you become go-to-the-hospital-sick if you have a single beer while on the pill. For this reason it was never approved.

I'm pretty pissed about that, I'd happily never drink alcohol again if it means not having to worry about getting someone pregnant.

You can still buy that stuff from chemical wholesalers, but it's crazy expensive. Maybe if I get rich, I'll do a one person clinical trial on myself.

If it were around back when I was single (especially in college) yes. BUT that’s not the only reason to put on a condom, so I’d be keeping them on till we both got exclusive or something.

Yeah mild effects like heart complications, permanent hormone imbalance, permanent infertility, drastically decreased testosterone, and sometimes death. Women do not have it worse.

Male BC couldn't even pass in the 50s with barely any regulations on the industry. The female bc wouldn't pass under these days.

Female biology already provides a template for temporarily stopping ovulation. It already happens during pregnancy, so scientist just need to mimic that hormone response. There is no template for men, which is why it's 1000x harder to make a male bc pill.

As a woman who has no reproductive issues and a regular period, I always refused to go on artificial hormones or having objects shoved into my uterus because of the side effects. I would not hold a man to a different standard than that. I've only ever been with one man, and he never had an issue with using a condom.

I just wish they would fund vasalgel instead of hormones. It's already been proven to be OVER 99% effective IN HUMANS. It's a shot in each vas deferens (tube that carries sperm in each testicle) that blocks it. So a man would ejaculate semen all the same, but it wouldn't have sperm in it. The sperm is painlessly reabsorbed into the body. It's the exact same as a vasectomy, but the tube is blocked instead of cut. This blockage can last 10+ years, and when/if the man wants it reversed the blockage is simply dissolved with a second shot of a solvent.

The main reasons this has not been brought to the public is because: 1 they fear men will not take a shot to the balls, 2 women will not trust men to be truthful, and 3 companies would barely make enough money to break even, since the shots are so cheap and long lasting. There's simply more money to be made by pushing long term birth control on women, especially since hormonal bc also helps with menstrual issues.

I got my sex education in the late 80s and early 90’s so condoms don’t bother me. I already have all the kids I’m likely to have, so I’m also cool with a vasectomy. I don’t have birth control requirements for my partners other than that they use some form

With society inundated with military grade rifles that are easier to buy than cell phones, and men going on rampages due to all types of psychological issues you really think it will be a good idea to put yet another drug out there that will give men even wilder mood swings?

Lets say you get stopped by a cop, a simple old cop - with a gun - who happens to be having a bad day, you really want that dude to be mood swinging while he is dealing with you?

Women have mood swings but that is natural for them, they ave built in mechanisms to deal with it, for one thing, they don't get homicidally violent. And then there's the fact that testosterone as a completely different hormone than estrogen with completely different types of mood swings.

I think the scientists did the right call here. Mood swings on a general population of men are not just a mild nuisance those men, they are a danger to all of society! Imagine an air traffic controller having a mood swing where he just ceases to give a fuck about the world and feels a surge of rage? Imagine a surgeon going through a violent mood swing? See where I'm going with this? Men are unpredictable when we are enraged and especially when our hormones are being fucked with. Look at hormone addled teenage boys. The difference is that we are allocated this special time in our lives to go through the necessary transformation into adulthood. Most teen boys go through the hormone rages just fine although you always hear about the ones who didn't. Now Imagine fully grown men with a fully grown man's strength, power, and influence going through those same hormonal storms that we go as teenagers. That is a recipe for disaster. Even if a man manages to control himself physically who is to say his rage, depression, anger, or whatever other extreme emotion isn't going to leak out of him in unpredictable behavioral ways? Imagine lawmakers going through this, lawyers, businessmen, doctors, etc.

Again, I think the scientists did a very good call in not approving this drug if it was going to cause mood swings in men.

Yep! Honestly I think BCP suppliers and manufacturers need to be held far more accountable for improving the science for women, but I'd of course be open to taking contraceptive medicine for myself if it means avoiding accidental pregnancies.

Ideally there would be safe and available options for everyone so we can all have some level of agency. In the meantime I'mma wrap it up each time.

Absolutely. I’d at least try it. If it affected my work performance or my sexual performance, I’d have to figure out ways to counteract side effects. It’d take a lot for me to write off male birth control.

As long as it’s got a high rate of success, I’d be elated knowing that I’m not at the whim of a woman wondering “did I take my pill today?”

Hell, if vasectomies were reliably reversible, I’d get one in a heartbeat.

Wouldnt want either of us to take it. Ingesting drugs is scary enough but anything that has any even minimal health effects (or a risk to either of our reproductive futures) is a no from me. I'm sure womens BCP is safe and I have no problem with others using it. I'd use other forms of protection and if she is compelled she can use one as well.

Probably not. I'd rather just use the rhythm method, though I guess I would prefer some sort of pill to condoms.

(I plan on having a large family anyway, so unless my wife is younger than 25 or so when we marry I might not use any birth control at all, except perhaps once in a while to space children.)
