One day, about 2 weeks after everything was finalized I was in a public bathroom washing my hands. It was just the right time. I hadn’t taken it off for years, so I needed lots of soap and it hurt coming off. This was about 3 weeks ago. I still have an indentation on my finger.

I didn’t make a big deal out of it. It wasn’t the end of my sadness or irrational guilt, but it was a step forward. Felt good if not a little underwhelming. I put it in my sock drawer. Don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. It’s not worth anything anyway.

Ironically, I noticed my now ex-wife had taken hers off many months before she asked for a divorce. I was scared to ask her about it. Another piece of evidence that she may have been cheating. Yet I still feel so much blame. Ugh!

I took mine off when we got separated. I still have it though. I'm an aerospace engineer and mine was custom machine from Carpenter 465 stainless alloy... It has sentimental value beyond the marriage. I hope my next wife understands when I insist on wearing it again lol

Few months after we separated, I noticed that she actually doesn’t have her ring. I don’t know how long ago she had taken it off before I noticed. Anyway, few days later, I decided it was time for me as well to take it off. I think that might be because I finally accepted that she had in fact moved on.

Ring related story:

I'm not religious or superstitious, but these events are crazy.

One week before things started to fall apart, i lost my ring. I felt devastated. We looked everywhere with no luck.

One week before she asked for a divorce, her ring cracked. Didn't smash it, drop it, or even smack it on anything. Just randomly cracked.

The only advice I can give on removing your ring is up to you, man. It's when you're ready to start telling people what's going on. Most people won't notice, but some do pay attention to the small details of others. It's been two months since mine came off, and I still have a ring mark. So even after it's off, you will still have a physical reminder, unfortunately. So, just like your finger needs time to heal, so will you. Good luck brother. Just know you are not alone in this journey. You got this.

It took me a while. I wasn't ready to accept that she wasn't coming back. Then, in one of my episodes of rage, I threw it and it broke in half. Cheap tungsten ring from amazon, lol.

My 3yo daughter later found the pieces, put one on top of the other and said, "Daddy look, it's a rainbow!"

That moment was kind of profound for me, because I view the rainbow as a promise of peace after the storm.

I bought her a diamond ring (while unemployed) as an engagement present and she wore it maybe 5 times total. She was afraid the diamond would fall off by some accident.

Then she had this idea that wedding rings should be worn only outside of house, as it bothered her while doing chores. She lost it somewhere in the house barely 6 months into marriage. She wasn't really bothered by the fact and gave a half assed attempt at looking for it a few days after she realized it's missing.

I'm still married and wear mine when I go outside.
