Respect needs to be earned, not forced as a default. Define what "not to disrespect" means. Respect is thrown around as a catch all term, when people can't deal with having their feelings/ego hurt. Treat me like a king, or i feel disrespected by you. How is your suggestion of not disrespecting possible, in a world where respect is not defined and very subjective?

Unfortunately the way things are now benefits women (at the very least in the short term) and desirable men too much so they will never want to give away these at least perceived benefits even if they are at the expense of most men.

equality and non obligation as an implicit assumption: Interactions between men and women should be such that both parties are assumed to be peers where neither is owed anything other than respect.

That's litterallly how it goes in most places

strong boundaries and politeness as the default: think of this as a gender neutral form of chivalry. Where when men and women interact they take extra care not to disrespect one another.

How culture and politics change in large, modern polities is very complex. There is a mix of top down premeditated action and a lot of more emergent bottom-up stuff, too. Trying to fully control or steer modern nations and cultures tends to create all these unanticipated second and higher order effects that can result in disaster. See Communism. So I'm pretty cautious on the policy front.

That said, what can be better are the conversations. At all levels. If we can get rid of a lot of the 60s-based nonsense and be more fact based, who knows what might come of it. In particular, we need to find a way to get female leaders and influencers more engaged in these discussions. And engaged on a fact-based and candid level. For various reasons, some somewhat understandable, women are not really engaging in these types of discussions if full good faith.

I’m not persuaded that monogamy (which is the norm anyway) provides the maximal possibility for decent relationships.

In a nonmonogamous system, although highly-desired men would certainly still be in high demand, it seems plausible that less-desired men might also be able to have relationships as potential partners aren’t needing to choose between them and someone else.

“Equality” doesn’t strictly work because women aren’t attracted to their exact equals. They need to be attracted to some aspect of that man that they admire.

Nevertheless, I think that relationships can be roughly equal. 50th percentile women can be happy with a 55th percentile man whom she can find something to admire about and don’t need 80th percentile man in order to be happy.

I disagree with monogamy being the best to structure relationships. It also shouldn’t be the norm . Polyamorous relationships can be very successful just as monogamous relationships both need good communication to survive

Are these not already the norm? Strong political rhetoric for monogamous partnering and offspring are screamed from the White House to the coal mine. It's not that monogamy isn't the cultural norm - it's that many people don't want to get married at all.

From most individual observable and anecdotal data, it reads as a zero sum pursuit. The math is not a mystery anymore. We can see that the geometry is thrown off.

It's like flat pattern drafting and cutting for a tailored shirt. Everything can be done to the most precise measurements - and still not be a good fit. Some people don't want to disturb their own peace and happiness, financial stability, or comfortable housing situation to accommodate dating, marriage, or children.

Mutual respect sounds amazing. However; the assumption of an unknown individual as an equitable peer ends a swift death once they open their mouth. Any number of things said and done can alter that perception.

While I don't believe that alteration then dictates one is deserving of less respect or owes anything more in compensation, the other party is still allowed to respectfully decline any further engagement. They may also immediately quit the interaction if so inclined.

Wanting and seeking sex has never been acceptable, that’s why laws, cultural norms, and entire religions were created to control and repress sexuality. It becomes incredibly subjugating, to this very day there is a female genitalia mutilation CRISIS occurring in African nations because they don’t want women to enjoy and seek sex of their own accord.

Monogamy as a societal pressure has only works if it's Enforced Monogamy. Otherwise it's just Serial Polygamy.

Monogamy requires no sex before marriage.
Monogamy requires marriage.
Monogamy requires fault divorce.

It needs those three things, in that order.
