I think the manosphere overreact in the sense that they assume all or at the very least the vast majority of women are evil enough to actually do this. But in the individual cases of this actually happening to a man, no, men are not overreacting to how grave a violation of decency and betrayal of said man this is. There's your first mistake; this belief pretty much waves away personal agency. I see it with evo-psych proponents all the time; they brandish their evo-psych beliefs as a shield and an excuse for freely-undertaken bad behavior. Many of them also assume that everyone has the same pathological desires they do, which is inaccurate. Not to mention their beliefs reduce people (of both sexes) down to reproductive functioning and roles, which is interesting because a lot of fundamentalist religious rhetoric does the exact same thing but in a different way. Well, that's an entirely different question. The problem with paternity fraud is that it's lying, not that it's expecting a person to love a kid not related to them. Yes, I care if my man thinks that, for example, adopting or fostering a kid means that he shouldn't love that kid like his own, just like I would. My two nieces aren't related to me at all, but they're as much my nieces as my bio nephew is.

I wouldn’t do it. My kids are all adopted. My brothers are adopted and I am the biological child of my parents. Biology means nothing to me, but I would never lie to my husband like that or cheat on him.

I think this question presupposes that women lie way more about sex and paternity than they really do. I think women make decisions about sex and children the same way men do: "Do I like this person? Do I want to share a child with them? If yes, let's go for it."

I would never do such a thing. It just goes completely against my values. It wouldn't be kind to either the man raising the kid, the actual father, or heck even the child. But then cheating just isn't something I would ever do either, and that's usually how some women put themselves in that sorta situation. Loyalty matters a lot to me. So more likely (if I'll ever end up having children) it would be with an okay but not perfect man, and I'd only want for him (and me) to raise that child simply because it's his.

Yes, genetics and money matter to me as well, like I wouldn't likely go with the most genetically screwed man (I mean incurable inherited diseases, severe birth defects, etc) or the most financially screwed (like homeless men, gambling addicts, etc) but those kinda things don't matter all that much to me. I don't need perfection. Poor kid would have half my genetics anyway lol. Children being raised in loving, caring families that stick together is way more important to me.

I do understand why men hate it when women act like that. I find it despicable behaviour too. Imo that's not being strategic with reproduction and child rearing, that's being a complete and utter asshole, to say it mildly. It's a huge break of trust. And that's why I approve of paternity tests being taken.

I admittedly don't have a lot of empathy for women like that. Yes yes I understand they have inherent value as human beings, and I don't wish them any kinda bodily harm, but I will still despise them based on their actions, and probably not care a lot if something bad did happen to them.

I do have empathy for the children who end up caught in that mess though. Like they didn't choose their parents, and they may end up completely fatherless and stuck with a shitty mother, if the mother's shitty behaviour gets discovered. Either way though, the kid is just not gonna be in a good situation about it, so I don't think the step-father should be tricked for the sake of the child either. That poor kid thinks the man who's raising them is their real father, and that's kinda just as bad as the man's situation. Both the man and the child are being exploited. They're both being lied to, and yeah I do think the truth prevails, even if the truth hurts more.

I'd rather see that hypothetical man have a choice in the matter, because like there are men who are fine with becoming step-fathers. And also the kid deserves to know who their real father is as well.

If I married someone and intended to have kids with them, it would be someone whose genetics I respected.* So that's the one I'd have kids with, unless we had some other arrangement. (For instance, if I married a woman, we'd have to agree on a sperm donor, not to mention who was doing the pregnancy thing.)

Of course, I've also always been fine financially, so while I would expect a co-parent to do their part to support the family (in some of various forms), the idea of needing a man for his resources is pretty foreign.

*Were this a live issue for me, it gets complicated, mostly because of my genetics. My family runs quite bright, but there are several known issues. Also, I grew up with my father and uncle asserting the superiority of our genetics and essentially treating us as a eugenics experiment... which was just a mind fuck.

Seeing as there have been studied to show men are more likely to abuse their own children than the children of another man... I wouldn't trick a "resourceful" man into being a parent to children that are not biologically his.

I would inform him out right that I was carrying a child that was not his and give him the ability to decide for himself whether he wanted to stay or not.

I met my husband when I was pregnant with my youngest child. He's an incredible parent to my children and I wouldn't change it for the world.

That being said, if I were to do this over again... The fathers of my biological children would not have been their fathers. And for the record, I didn't choose their fathers. They chose me.

I would rather have had an actual say in who the father is than have had to go through what I went through a second time.

And I wouldn't be choosing a potential mate over resources and his ability to provide them. I find that foolish.

I would be choosing a potential mate to procreate with solely based on his character. How he is in public, versus in private. What he's like as an overall person. All of that is what matters to me. It reflects how he will treat me and my children. That's what I care about most. Being treated well.
