How exactly is it a skill to be honest and say whatever you are thinking without considering consequences or other people's feelings? This seems like the easiest thing to do.

I mean the opinion that it would be better if everyone was saying exactly what they think is valid but it's not that women can't communicate that way is wrong. Many might choose not to but not because they lack the skill to be honest. Whereas many people who just say what they think, without considering what reaction it will cause, simply do so because they lack the skill of anticipating a reaction and changing what they say accordingly.

Not caring to offend people is a lack of social awareness or a lack of empathy

If someone didn't care about offending you and said whatever they wanted to about you and your loved ones, I am sure as a man a physical altercation would occur

Being direct without caring how it effects the people around you isn't kindness nor good

Being socially aware is knowing what you'll say is offensive therefore not saying it.

Analyzing the vibe of the group and imitating it to maintain or improve status within the group is also a social skill, saying whatever without caring about how it'll go takes no skill. Men absolutely do not have better social skills. They are kind of horrible to deal with.

They monopolize conversations. They will talk and talk and talk and leave no space for anyone to say anything. They do it to men and women.
They are food aggressive. Men are the only people I see who will do all they can to take the most and best of a meal before seeing if everyone else has had any. They do it at work potlucks, they do it at home, they do it at social gatherings. They do it everywhere and to each other. The polite thing take some of something and make sure everyone gets some. Then go back for seconds.
Men like to say brutally honest. They like to focus on the brutal part. You can say something honestly without being mean. The goal is to make it hurt so they can feel like they win.
Men dont really know how to read the room well. It’s not even about dating, just basic interpersonal interactions with coworkers, people in a bar, at basic social situations. They just don’t get it. It’s so weird.

Men often enjoy brutal honesty, emphasis on brutal. They don’t worry about offending people because they enjoy offending people. Cruelty is cathartic to them and they use honesty as a guise. They’re usually lashing out to make themselves feel better because of insecurities or because they believe life has been unfair to them.

You've defined social skill as bluntness, then concluded men are more socially skilled because they're blunter. That's circular. The actual definition of social skill involves reading the room, building rapport, navigating conflict, and achieving interpersonal goals without unnecessary collateral damage. By those measures the research pretty consistently favors women, not men.

The honesty angle is also backwards. Adjusting your delivery based on context and audience IS a social skill. A doctor who delivers bad news with care isn't being dishonest compared to one who just says "yeah you're probably going to die." They're demonstrating more competence, not less.

The dating app example doesn't prove what you think it does. Women hiding that they have kids isn't a communication style difference, it's a rational response to how men on dating apps react to that information. You'd need to control for incentives before drawing any conclusions about honesty as a trait.

And the "society caters to women" premise is just asserted with zero support. That claim needs an actual argument, not vibes.

Not trying to have a gotcha moment, but I don't think you're looking at this objectively.

In my experience, navigating social situations with women requires more thought/finesse than with men. Women are also, generally, a little more social. I can speak very bluntly to men because they're more likely to take what I say literally, and I think that's cool. But men are also less likely to say something when they're upset, or tell you when you misstep. That doesn't necessarily mean women on average have more social skills than men, though. Men and women having different norms means you can't compare them easily. But my personal opinion is that social situations with women, specifically women you don't know, require more skill.

Now, let me be objective. This is my experience as a woman, and my opinions are shaped from that experience. I can't tell you if it's the honest truth because I don't know how men see the world and I never will. Are social situations with women harder because I'm a woman? Probably. I'm willing to bet that male/male social situations are much harder than male/female, too, because you guys test each other just like some women do.

Honesty of this sort is more akin to rudeness, which absolutely is not proof of superior social skills. Artifice isn’t great but polite and gentle social interactions grease the wheels of a community.

Women primarily have better social skills than men because they (on average) are better at maintaining weak social ties / acquaintanceship, meaning they have broader social networks. They also tend to be more proactive with making plans, planning events and parties, filling up a social calendar, etc.
