If you ever go to a Walmart, they have a wall that posts women and children that have gone missing. Depends which Walmart that you’re at, but I saw one in Vegas that was huge. Also in New Jersey. It’s really terrible that women are stolen every day.

I live in NYC, and have been saving to move out. I moved here 20 years ago, but the city is so unsafe right now. The men...they follow you and stare at you, they don’t care if you’re with kids or not. It’s terrible and terrifying. Be safe out there ladies.

Wait a minute, how do you get 25 years for a warning shot?? We just had a post here about murderers breaking multiple bones, strangling, cutting throats, hiding bodies and getting 3 years, in some cases having the charges dropped.

Am I missing something?

25 yrs... I barely lived that long. That's awful. Men in my country get maybe 5 for murdering someone and get released on good behaviour because there's not enough men's prison spaces. If you're a woman though you'll serve and then some.

Black American women can not even rely for protection from their own men. The number of black girls and women trafficked and killed is alarmingly high.

Black women can’t win. I’m afraid to buy a gun because Black women defending themselves with weapons has gotten them killed by police. I used to think I needed a man around to protect me. They’re useless. One dude I was dating back when I had a stalker (who would follow me from work to my apartment) literally climbed out the window. Fucking useless. The first time I ever called the police on the stalker, the arrested me for “wasting their time” on a non-violent call.

This country won’t protect us. No man will protect us. We all we got.

Edit: London and Berlin aren’t perfect, but they’re not full of power-tripping asshats with a license to kill. I’ve been saving up to get out and I highly suggest that all my sisters do the same. We are not safe here.

Uh....... they already don’t stop us from getting raped, often don’t believe us about getting raped, or may actually be the ones that raped. And I fully recognize it’s even worse for black women.

To my Ontario-based black ladies who have to live with shitty self-defense laws: Keep a box cutter on you “for packages” and say baseball is a hobby to get away with keeping a bat (IIRC you might also be able to keep certain irritant sprays depending on your area too) so if worse comes to worst, you will be less likely to be charged with using a weapon against an attacker. Make sure to take classes to protect yourself as well because we are at a strong disadvantage.

This. I cringe every time I see someone suggest get a concealed carry permit. As if that is the be-all-end-all to keeping ourselves safe. It reeks of privilege and other gross stuff I can't put my finger on.

Not everyone can afford a handgun or be approved for cc. And yeah, since we're discovering an awfully large percentage of cops are white supremacists, telling black women to arm themselves seems almost dangerous...? Then again, they do need to protect themselves for just that reason.

I don't know the right answer. But I don't feel like "more guns" is it.

Look, I agree with everything you said about racism, sexism, and statistics regarding the brutal way black women are treated by cops. But the slow motion video of the shooting clearly shows her about to stab the girl in pink. The knife looked inches from pink girl's head, neck and chest. It looked too close for cop to have run over to her and grabbed the knife.

There are so many verifiable examples of murders of black women and girls at the hands of psycho cops, that we don't need to point to this one to illustrate the (completely valid) point.

I understand that knife girl called cops because pink girl and girl in shorts showed up at her house to assault her, and her death is a tragedy, but let's acknowledge what was shown in the video.

They just released the cops cam, she didn’t drop the weapon when the cop arrived. She was still lunging at another black woman at the time, with the knife in hand.

I always recommend sound weapons. I carry an Aztec Death Whistle everywhere I go in my purse. It sounds like a woman being murdered and is extremely loud, viscerally disturbing, and instinctually terrifying. It won’t scare anyone off, but it will draw a huge amount of attention to yourself. The shock of the sound may give you a chance to flee. It even scares the crap out of dogs. I got mine on Etsy.

My mom carries a super loud battery powered sound weapon that makes an extremely loud, high pitched noise but I worry about her because I don’t think it’s equivalent to a death whistle.

I really want to develop a stink weapon that works the same way as a llama or vulture spitting on someone. It’s a glob of super sticky, disgusting, extremely foul smelling goo. Whatever is trying to attack them is so grossed out and horrified they back off to get the smell off.

Malcolm X is all I can say. The most disrespected, exploited, assaulted, unprotected, outcast human being not only in the U.S. but worldwide is:

The Black Woman.

I can barely write down my thoughts without feeling like the biggest pretense because the reality is simply that by no means I can begin to imagine what it must be like.

Even if my best friend from Kindergarten days had not been black, my awareness for black women has been there for so long now. I travelled so much into culturally vastly different countries which only manifested this.

If I end up adopting I want a black girl.

Such a big part of my fight is not only against sexism but also racism.

I have to accept I might not see worldchanging moments in my lifetime. That is not my motivation to speak my truth. The mere principle of doing the right thing is. Even when nobody's watching. Losing all the shots I never took, kind of a mindset.

Wow, there’s people suggesting we get a gun when it’ll be likelier to be used to shoot women than protect? It’s crazy that America is so obsessed with guns. I grew up in a sketchy city in a Third World country and there was no gun in the house. Guns are overrated for protection.

I’m so sorry that Black people, especially Black women and girls, are going through this really awful trauma. A 17 year old recorded what happened? A 15 got murdered today? I keep thinking that these girls are babies. It’s an enormous tragedy.

Unfortunately the people usually attracted to law enforcement in this country have authoritarian mindset from the beginning, racism is well known to have permeated law enforcement in America for a long time.

I would really like to see more black folks, especially black women, enter law enforcement as officers.

I don't even think it matters what exactly she was doing. The fact is, she was a minor killed by the cops. Couldn't he have at least just incapacitated her with a non-fatal shot? People are in comment sections rejoicing. I find it disgusting. Literally out there talking about, "she deserved it!" It's such a fugly ass response to a tragic event.

As long as men keep making the laws and being in positions of power we won’t be safe. This is why the idea of individual “empowerment” is useless. I’m all for women learning to defend themselves, I think is really important, but it’s only the start.

This makes me want to journeyman attorney and get you acquaintance's sister out. Defending yourself should never get you punished, much less a jail sentence.

In my spare time, I'm looking for a woman that is believed to have been trafficked. If women stopped competing against each other and started supporting one another, we could take over the world.

Edit: The scrotes that keep downvoting this comment because another woman sees the needs of women in the criminal justice system for representation - especially those who are BIOPC - and is actually working to help them, go kick rocks.
