So let me get this straight: The judge takes a point away, giving the other woman an advantage. How is this sexism? I think Serena Bot had a break down. I think they missed out on a reason that women received more coaching violations than men. Coaching is allowed for women at all WTA events except for at Grand Slams. NO coaching is allowed for men at ANY event.

I'd bet you'd get more men violating the coaching rule if they were accustomed to getting coaches during play.

Can we all not be as dishonest as feminists please? You cannot know if men or women are treated unfairly without knowing how often they breach the rules. For example maybe men get more code violations not just because they play more sets but also because we actually commit more. For example a man is more likely to break his racket if he throws it because he is stronger. Or it may just mean we throw them more often. Or maybe sexism really is the case. It cannot be inferred from this data alone.

And for the record I think williams is wrong about the sexism charge but some people in this thread need to learn how things are proven. We don't just shout sexism when we see men make more money. We interpret the data. So let's not make the same mistakes feminists make.

I put this data to a feminist friend recently, but she argued that “men commit more violations than women in tennis, so it’s not surprising they’re penalised more”. Going on to say loads of men behave like Serena did, but get away with it.

Such an annoying and subjective argument, any ideas of how to counter it?

I would be very interested to see the percentage of people committing violations and not being fined for them versus people getting fined for said violations. I think that would be the true way to tell if there is any latent sexism in this. Let's just say for example if 200 men are breaking rackets and only a hundred of them are getting fined for it but 50 women are breaking rackets and all 50 of them are getting fined for it that could point toward some sexism.

Without knowing the percentage of people who got fined versus who did not get find these graphs are completely meaningless. Far more men play in the Grand Slam series than women do so it's pretty obvious that men will have more fines.

This has been posted many times before.

The data does not prove it the other way. It proves that in total men have been fined more. Does it say if men have outbursts more? Does it say if when men have outbursts they are given the same leniency as women?

I watch a good amount of tennis. Anecdotally I will say that men have outbursts way more often than women. Also, IMO women are given a much shorter leash than men (e.g. a man can rant for a solid minute or two before being issued a game penalty while a women says only a few words before getting the same result).

This is the sort of situation that ruins MeToo and the power of feminism. For women... And "male feminists"(who are predators in disguise, but that's another story) who hang on to the MeToo movement, they should absolutely condemn women who act like this with no facts, because what it does is it sucks the credibility out of the complaints.
