I listen to a lot of sports radio and this has been going on for a few days. I don't know if anyone else here listens to such stuff, but the hoops they were going through to absolve her of any wrong doing was unreal.

One of the last things I hear before going to be last night was, paraphrasing: "Yeah, she tried to hit him in the groin, looks like she probably got him. She clearly punched him first and instigated the attack. But you just don't hit a woman, no matter what. I know she was just as involved in this as he was, if not more, but what he did was wrong and he should face charges. I don't see any reason she should face charges and I hope she get's to sue the pants off him"

Florida stand your ground law allows him to defend himself in percieve threat from unlawful aggression. He did not have to retreat.

He is charged with assault and battery. Just because she is a female who attacked him first.

He did not use excessive force as they claim. Fact of the matter is he had more force at his disposal. "Never hit a woman" is aimed at telling men that they cannot strike a woman in over an argument, as a verbal argument between a man and woman can't be settled with fisticuffs the way a verbal fight between two men can. However, when she attempted to strike him, the rules changed. She should have taken into account her strength and his strength. She didn't punch/kick him hard because she physically couldn't, however she tried, and when you lash out at someone physically you are saying that you no longer wish to be treated as a woman but instead be treated as a man. Being weaker or stronger in a fight decides the outcome, not whether or not the fight is allowed to take place.

And as they say: "be careful what you wish for, you might just get it." She found out the hard way why society doesn't like intersexual violence. She tried to muster all her strength and only came up with a weak kick and weak punch he was able to easily stop. While he used a small amount of force and was able to easily break her nose(which doesn't actually take a lot of force).

A guy that size could have easily knocked her unconscious, the fact that she was still standing after the fact proves that he held back quite a bit.

Choosing to raise her fist signaled an escalation that he was well within his rights to defend which he did by restraining her which she then took as an escalation to which she felt justified to strike him and he struck back in defense. When the elevator punch video came out, I understood why everyone maintained that he had done something horrible. Being spit on, etc. doesn't justify what he did and almost nothing would. How can the media keep up the same level of outrage over a situation like this? She raises her hand in a fist, he holds her back, she punches him first, he punches her (more effectively). I feel torn about this, especially as an FSU alum. The bottom line is it was a really stupid thing to do. He shouldn't have been in a bar and def shouldn't have hit her. I don't say that like he shouldn't have done it just because she's a woman, but because he needed to think about his future. The near future.

Nothing good can come from that attention especially given our colorful past. You can't get caught up doing too much stupid shit at once and he did. I think he was in the right to defend himself , but he shouldn't have reacted so swiftly. Even if it had been a guy it would have been a poor choice to make.

Society will dictate that: As a man he shouldnt hit a girl. But as a HUMAN BEING you should NEVER act entitled and pick fights with people that can dismantle you. Both men and women. Women need to understand even though it is socially expected for them to have some courtesies from men, they shouldn't feel they deserve it and expect it from everyone.

I think both parties learned a valuable lesson about societal norms and what not to do in life.
