Then enjoy the rest of your life knowing she now has to act like an adult and take care of herself.

I feel so bad for people who got stuck paying alimony.

I was very lucky, in that my judge, well, she just hated my exwife. My exwife tried to play the "too sick to work" card, but our judge just didn't buy it.

She basically told her that there was no reason why she wasn't working, and she needed to start working. My ex requested 50% of my take home pay in alimony on an 11 year marriage.
But the judge Gave her $0 alimony instead.

I do pay child support, but it's far less than my ex requested (both times) because she keeps putting down her income as $0, and the same judge says "no!"

I applaud you. That’s a hell of a journey and struggle. I’m 2.5 years in making similar payments and it’s soul crushing. I’m still awaiting trial to get permanent spousal support set. Hopefully, I’m capped at 7 years for 12 year marriage, but it’s California so all bets are off.

Well, holy hell. I remember my last payment came with a little sliver of paper that said I was done… it was a really good feeling. It also allowed me to let go of some of the animosity. Fact is, I wasn’t happy about it all… the cheating, the leaving, or the payments… but the past never has held my focus for long, the future is what I can affect. That moment let me turn fully toward the future and embrace it.

Are you for real? Anyone with a gap of more than $200K with their spouse should consider a strategic preemptive divorce to reduce financial risk. You can continue to co-habit and pretend to be married after the divorce

My son’s friend’s dad made a post on Facebook inviting everyone he knew to an all day barbecue to celebrate his last alimony payment. His ex cheated on him with multiple men and was a nurse but since he was a lawyer he got slammed. She also left him with four teenagers. He posted a bunch of pics of the event and he looked so happy. It was a big party and I’m sure she knew about it and was pissed. I was genuinely happy for him.
