I’ve heard this before several times when the date was CLEARLY shit. I’m not sure why they say this. Maybe they want to follow up but don’t have anything to say? I don’t know can someone chime in?

Edit: maybe they want you to say the same back to him kind of like a forced validation?

OK. Please listen to me. I'm in my 50s and recently went on a date which I will describe below. If you follow these rules this will never happen to you again.

Do not text or talk with a man for more than 48 hours. Get all relevant information. Full name, place of work and any other info you can get. Google him and/or do an online background check. If he is squirrely about giving you info block/delete. As a woman your safety is paramount.
I suggest having a phone conversation and video chat before meeting in person (this is still within the 48 hour timeframe) this is part of the vetting process.
He must properly plan the date. He must drive to you and meet somewhere you feel comfortable with. The time and place of the date must be specified and to YOUR satisfaction and standards. Never "go with the flow" or "be spontaneous." If he will not do this block/delete.

My recent date: A former classmate reached out to me through FB. We are FB friends. He saw I had moved back to the area. Within just a few text messages he asked if I would like to catch up over dinner, his treat. I said yes. He then asked if I had any special dietary restrictions. I said no. He suggested a very nice restaurant near me and asked if I'd been there or would like to try it. I said I hadn't been there but would like to go. Had this been an OLD I would have met him at the restaurant but b/c I have known him for decades I allowed him to pick me up at my place. He was on time (actually 5 min early texted to tell me so and asked if that was ok,) came in to say hello to my mother, opened car doors and all doors for me all evening. He ordered one of the most expensive entrees on the menu and suggested multiple appetizers, thereby signaling without saying so that I should feel comfortable ordering whatever I wanted. This was a fairly pricey establishment, average entree was over $35. We also had wine and dessert. When he dropped me off at my place he walked me to the door. I gave him a brief hug. He was not handsy and never pushed for more. He also asked if I would like to go out again. Later that evening he sent me a text thanking me for a great time. All of his actions were designed to make me feel comfortable and safe and to make sure I enjoyed myself.

Now I know many young women here would see this as dream date. No. This is normal baseline good manners and how dating should be. This man is not particularly polished. He is not college educated and works in a blue collar profession. I have had many dates like this because these are my standards. This type of date does not indicate that he is a HVM. All it tells you is that he wasn't raised in a barn and that he understands basic etiquette. Ladies, accept nothing less than this. The venue does not have to be as expensive as this one, but make sure it is in line with the income of the man asking you out. Never date a cheap man or a man that doesn't make it clear that he will be picking up the tab. Never be afraid to block and delete if he is insulting you by compromising your standards or your safety.

The last date I went on, the guy brought me out to dinner that was $300. Using the excuse of nothing is open is a lie. Those high-end spots are open because the people who can afford those places seem to be the least likely to give up their lifestyle for the sake of others.

I could be wrong, but a lot of the high-end spots in my city are still open and serving their regular clientele who don't like to cook for themselves. Again, I could be wrong, and other's might have some more insight.

Also, not even bringing you flowers etc... flowers were totally sold out days before the holiday here because of Covid. That means people were at the least getting one another flowers because they couldn't either afford dinner, or wanted to show someone they cared. He should have planned way more in advance.

Burger King is not a date. This scrote may have acted like it was a date or even straight up described it as a date/asked you out on a “date” verbatim but this, unfortunately, was not an actual date. Don’t act like it was a date, don’t think like it was a date, and (I’m hoping you will not hang out out with him again) absolutely remember if he asks you “out” again that this, even it is any better than a fast food joint, is not a “second date” because the first outing was not a date in the first place.

Males need to remember that the choices they make when interacting with a woman they “like” and the display they perform when trying to show her their value will reflect their value as a male. A LV “date” (Burger King, walking in a park, sitting on a couch etc) should not be considered a date and we should respond accordingly. It was their job to make a good first impression and they failed so when this happens we should not interact with them afterwards.
