What’s sad is that this will never be a true equivalent, because men just aren’t sexualized and objectified as we are by society, so at most they’ll find it funny, like we do now, because they know it’s not a thing and they’re safe, the protagonists, creators and consumers.

However, the belittlement, dismissal and dehumanization we feel when we read those cartoonish descriptions of what men think a woman is, they will never know how it feels.

Entering the club, I approached the bar man and was met with a strong and mysterious gaze. Male authors absolutely do write female characters differently, at least enough for me to absolutely notice. I'm playing VA-11 Hall-A Cyberpunk Bartender Action at the moment, I've finished multiple endings, it's a good game for the most part but SHIT it is so obvious that the writer is a dude. I'm not even going to look it up, I know it is, I'll bet both of my tits. There's a loli android character who never upgraded to an adult appearance that is like super sexual and is openly proud about her job as a sex worker, the bartender (a female main character) laughs at stupid sex puns like the drink that is called a Bad Touch, she can't help but try not to laugh literally every time someone orders one 🤨 I mean to be fair the other bartender finds it dumb, but the self awareness does not help lol

I could go on. Fortunately these moments aren't annoyingly often or else I wouldn't play the game (The game has some pretty cool characters) but I can't help but roll my eyes whenever another sex joke happens...

On the flip side, animes like Demon Slayer and Land of the Lustrous were written by women. The male characters are emotionally real and the female characters aren't sexualized and there aren't any stupid tropes common in many anime/video games. I don't know much about the realm of writing outside anime/Japan-inspired stuff, but I imagine you probably find the same sort of bullshit? Like describing women's anatomy badly and stuff?
