That’s why I used to take it as a total red flag, a sign to not date that person.

A) if you are so defensive, there must be something you are hiding

B) or if you don’t, you are gaslighting the shit out of me. I’m an adult and I have reasons for taking these precautions.

C) if you recognize the risks, then you are just plainly not taking my feelings and my well-being into account, which I’m not up to be with someone so selfish.

If a man takes basic safety measures as a personal insult to himself, you have to wonder exactly why that is. Why are they so defensive and angry over it?

I feel like regular people should have no problem with it. Like what would drive a person to get angry over another person keeping themself safe? Almost like they value men's feelings over women's safety.

Last year I went on two first dates. On one, I at one point pulled out my phone saying “let me make sure my friend isn’t worried about me” and the guy seemed like it dawned on him in that moment, at 30 years old, that women have safety concerns when dating. The other first date, I mentioned this previous interaction and he made a quizzical face and said “yeah, of course, safety check” in a tone like it was as normal as putting on a seatbelt in a car. The difference between men who actually listen to women and those who don’t… whew, it’s amazing.

I had a man continually ask where I worked and what gym I went to and I had to tell him I won’t tell him until we meet in person and he threw a fit 😑

yet more dangerous is a man who knows how to behave as if he's not dangerous but he is dangerous.... ugh! no abuser will slap you on the first date or tell you that all their exes ended up in therapy and with low self-esteem. they will push the charisma to the max and rope you in and gauge your reactions so they can get you invested and then brainwashed.

I wonder if he’s actually Autistic. I’ve noticed neurodivergent men (men on the spectrum in particular) seem to be more accepting and accommodating to the safety measures women need to take when dating. I feel like it’s because most people on the spectrum spend more time thinking logically and take more things at face value (and less time thinking about social cues and deeper implications of people’s words/actions). So these men are more able to see the practical side of these precautions rather than perceiving those precautions as a personal insult.

This is why dating is not worth it to me. Why risk my own safety at all just for a chance at a fulfilling relationship? Even if it turns into the best relationship that can ever exist, it’s not worth the risk. I’m not going to gamble my life for companionship.

Even an autistic man understands what many apparently neurotypical men won't. I've had men up in arms just because I didn't want to go to their homes on the first dates, or didn't want to tell him exactly where I live or work or let them drive me to my home. I live in one of the safest countries in the world and so when I wasted time explaining some of my boundaries (I know, never waste time arguing with scrotes) they'd say that "oh but that doesn't happen here" or that I was watching too many films. It doesn't matter if you live in a safe place or not where violent crime is rare, you just need one single encounter with a bad man to have your life destroyed.

I don’t get why go on dates with internet guys if u need so many precautions and stress. Where still ways to meet SO without old, friends, work, group activities, matrimonial agencies who do a full check etc.

Are we all going to sit here and pretend that we’re at risk from “male presenting” women? Butch women NEVER get harassed, nothing ever happens to them, and they commit crimes as the same rate as men. /s
